HT204397 app-specific password is not working

I'm trying to login into iCloud on Fantastical 2. I have two-step verification enabled. So, I generated an app-specific password. But, it fails to sign in.
Any thoughts as to why?

  • App-Specific Password Required does not work on iMac

My iMessages and FaceTime apps on my iMac stopped working.  When I tried to sign in I couldn't, and was forced to request an App-specific password online.  I did this using two step verification, but did not get an app specific password, only a gray screen.  I have gone through multiple logon attempts unsuccessfully.  I even tried to disable two step verification but got an error message.  App specific passwords worked on my iPad Air, but not my iMac.  What's wrong?

i cant buy the extras either. same problem.
but i dont wanna buy annother app in the appstore! i sent apple a bug report on it because im not gonna buy it until they fix it, well i cant lol! apple please try and fix this bug cause its really annoying and many people r effected by it and more will be but just wont have commented on the apple community seems like every new mac owner will have this bug :/
    this is what i get:
it doesnt change or load just stays and doesnt download! (i blanked the time/date and things if ur wondering about those 2 white boxes on the top bar and dock, but the appstore window just goes blank, i didnt blank it out for privacy- the blank app store thing is the main problem )

  • When I attempt to updates apps on my ipad my password does not work. I tried updating them one at a time and it still doesn't work. I've reset my password and I can use the new password and update apps on my PC but not on my ipad. Why?

When I attempt to update apps on my ipad my password does not work, even when I attempt to update each app separately. When I change the password it works on my PC but not on my ipad.  Why?

Try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works.

  • HT1430 For some unknown reason my Apple ID password does not work when trying to down load books from the IBook or Nook Apps.  It also has stop work when trying to down load new Apps.  Any suggestions out their???

For some unknown reason, my Apple ID Password does not work when trying to down load IBooks, Nook books, or new Apps.  Everything else seems to work.  Any suggestions out their???

I appreciate the info and realize that the Nook App is not related to my Apple account but this too has stopped working.  My situation first started with the Nook App not down loading and then has now spread to my IBook and new app downloads.  I have checked into my ITunes account and the ID and password are correct  and at times when I am asked to submit my Apple password such as setting up this Apple Support Community the ID and password work.  My problem seems to be just with trying to use my ID and password when wanting to download new books or apps.  I can go into the IBook, Nook, and App stores and seemingly download an item but when clicking on the new book or app nothing happens and I get a message that states it can not get into the ITunes store and it wants me to either try again or cancel.  This message appears usually ten minutes after I have tried to make a purchase.  At other times when I attempt to download a book or app I lose the screen and the IPad goes into the opening screen.  Short of redoing my Apple account or deleting an app and attempting to reload the app (but this won't work because the App store won't load new apps) I don't have a clue what to do.

  • Using Google 2FA and app-specific password--can receive but not send

I'm using Mail to check my Gmail account.  I use 2FA on my Google account and therefore use an app-specific password for Apple Mail.  I receive mail fine (although sometimes the message doesn't get pushed to Mail, it seems...maybe this is a different issue) but I can't send a message.  I get this error:
...but I've already entered my app-specific password and there's nowhere to enter it.  The link in the error message is dead.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

  • App-specific passwords: are they required for the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime?

I was recently prompted to generate app-specific passwords for iMessage and FaceTime on my Mac. The process went reasonably smoothly, but after doing this I wondered whether I'll need to do the same on my iOS devices.
The Apple Support page Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support offers no clues about which Apple apps require them and on which devices.
As a test, I tried signing out of iMessage on my iPhone, and signing back in with my regular Apple ID password, not an app-specific one. This worked fine, therefore I assume the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime do not need app-specific passwords.
On the other hand, I've read some of the articles which state that the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime will require app-specific passwords:
      http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/02/apple-extends-two-factor-authentication-to- facetime-and-imessage/
Does this mean that app-specific passwords have simply not been "rolled out" to my devices yet, and we'll be prompted to generate app-specific passwords on iOS at some random time in the future?
If so, that's a problem for non-technical users in my household on whose behalf I look do setup and security. It will effectively mean iMessage will stop working for them, until I can take a look at the issue. This is not always something that can be done quickly if we're in different locations.
If I pre-empt the roll-out by visiting https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/security and generate and install an app-specific passwords for them anyway, before the prompt appears, will this work?

So far the app specific passwords were only required for 3rd party apps, not for "Apple apps". Not sure why you cannot use trusted device verification for iMessage and FT like on the App store or iTunes. or on Apple TV.
Having to generate a different  app specific password for every device that uses iMessage or FT is a pain, but I guess the powers that be at Apple feel it is more secure.

  • App-specific password for iMessage and FaceTime required?

Using 2 step verification with AppleID/iCloud
This morning somehow I was asked to generate an app-specific password for both iMessage and FaceTime on a Mac Mini that I use occasionally. Fair enough. Completed the process. After a while I noticed that FT and iMessage were logged out of my iPad, and it asked to generate an app-specific password. Does FT and iMessage now require an app specific password? So the Apple ID/password are no longer  enough? I can understand the need for this with third party apps, but with Apple apps? Can someone please confirm if as of today iMessage and FT need an app specific password in order to work with 2 step verification?
Or am I missing something here?

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • App Specific Passwords - What Are The Risks?

    Hi,
I'm quite clear on what app specific passwords are, how they are generated and how to use them with my apps but I have a general query re their potential misuse before I actually go live.
For instance if I want to use iOS Outlook on my iPhone I need an app specific password to login to get iCloud emails.  Job done.
But what happens if that app specific password were to get into the wrong hands?
I understand from other systems using app specific passwords that there could be the loophole potential for this to be used to basically bypass 2 step authentication and login to my Apple ID via say, the iCloud website.  Is this true of the Apple system?
I assume that if I name the app specific password Outlook then the Apple system isn't going to restrict the use just to the iOS Outlook app on my one specific iPhone and to only the email system in iCloud,  I mean, how can it?
So if my app specific Outlook password should fall into the wrong hands I assume it can be used by any app on any device to gain access to my iCloud account and data.
Surely this can't be right and I'm misinterpreting things?  I'd hope that as a minimum it could only be used to gain access to my data and not account details and security specific areas.  Ideally I'd like a way for the password to be limited for use on specific devices and only have access to specific areas of iCloud data.
It would be nice to try apps that don't yet support the iCloud 2 step authentication without compromising security to the degree where the 2 step authentication is basically a farce.  I assume that 2 step authentication for apps is not available outside the Apple eco system and Apple apps yet.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • After a restore from Time Machine my login password does not work.

My HD crashed and I replaced the HD.  I then restored from Time Machine.  After it was done restoring it prompted me for my apple ID and password and account info.  Now when I try to login, the password does not work.  After several failed passwords, it says I can reset my password using my apple ID.  How do you do this?  I click on the message and it just disappears.  I can't login!

Is it your actual Apple ID login password that you're talking about (which is obviously working since you got into this forum) or the password for your user account. If the latter, simply boot to your ML Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and set a new password via Terminal.
Boot into your Recovery partition and, from the Utilities menu, open Terminal. In Terminal, type in:
    resetpassword
...a small app will run allowing you to select a user and change the password for that use. Enter the new password twice (the second time to verify) and give yourself a password 'hint'. Then reboot and use your new password on your account.
