Grayed out tunes wont play on my iphone?

Hello G4RNR,
When you have grayed out songs on your iPhone, those songs didn't completely transfer over.  I found some articles that will guide you in syncing.
If you have iTunes 11, you can use one of the following articles:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12313
If you have an earlier version of iTunes, you can use this article (the title of the article says iPod, but the steps also work with the iPhone as well):
iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
Best,
Sheila M.

  • HT4914 all my songs ive uploaded from my hard drive are greyed out and wont play on my phone. any advice?

all my songs are greyed out and wont play

Turn on the iCloud Download column in your song list in iTunes and that way you'll be able to see what has been copied to the cloud and what hasn't.
What is the size of your music library and what is the size of your hard drive?

  • Ipod4 syncs music incorrectly with itunes after ios5 update. Playlists list some songs which are greyed out and wont play. Suspect they werent downloaded as Ipod now holds 16 000 songs. Previous max was 9000 songs.

I upgraded to IOS5. Now have synching problems using the USB Cable . I tried everything. Resent the Synch history in ITunes. Unticked all playlists and synched to clear all music etc of the iPod. Reticked items to synch then still have trouble. After it synchs, I see a playlist with some songs in black and some in grey. The black songs play, the grey ones don't. The same songs in iTunes do appear there and will play. I don't have any broken links in my library. Anyone know of a solution.? Synching takes forever and seems to get stuck on importing the pictures for ages. I walk away and next morning it will be finished syncing but with aforementioned problems.

You should send this to Apple.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

  • I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone.

I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone. i have tried the following:
    1) Removing all music from phone and resynced to iTunes PC library.
    2) Erased phone and restored from back up
    3) Erased phone and started as a new iPhone
    4) Reformated the music files in my library that weren't playing
    5) Deleted songs from iPhone and computer and re-imported CDs
    6) Tried to redownload my COMPLETE MUSIC LIBRARY from iCloud.
    7) I have also turned it off and turned it back on several times
    8) I tried syncing through my macbook (only moved partial songs to it to see if it would even work).
    9) I have tried to get Siri to play them, did not work.
    10) All music does play fine on my iPod Touch 3rd (iOS6 i think) gen and iTunes on Mac and PC
    11)  I added a CD to my roommates iTunes and it plays on their iPhone 5S but not mine.
After all of these things it is now WORSE!!!  My iTunes purchased songs are now experiencing the same issue along with some (not all) of the original music files that were skipping and grayed out.  My conclusion is i have no clue at this point!  I have done everything i have found online in EVERY discussion, i have spent over 60 hours trying to get this to work and i am asking myself, i bought this product why am having to fix this when it worked just fine on my iPod touch (3rd Gen) and iPod Classic!!!!  PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE FOR US!!!!

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

  • Songs on iPod are grayed out and purchases in iTunes are missing

So my mom's having some trouble with iTunes-
When her 7th gen Nano is plugged into iTunes all of the songs on it are grayed out and unplayable.  There are no icons or such that suggest that there is a problem.
She has 559 songs on her iPod that she purchased and downloaded with the same Apple ID that she still uses today, however iTunes says that she only purchased 179.
This problem must have started when the computer she uses was wiped and had Windows 7 re-installed, but this shouldn't affect the data associated with her Apple ID?
Is there anyway that the songs on her iPod can be transferred to her library?  (after they're somehow ungrayed)
Any little bit of help is appreciated

With manual transfer you drag the songs from your iTunes to the iPod. That's how manual works and has nothing to do with songs being "check marked".
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.

  • HT1211 hd show i have downloaded them in the past and they work fine but now i cant buy any new ones it grayed out and wont let me click on them

hd show i have downloaded them in the past and they work fine but now i cant buy any new ones it grayed out and wont let me click on them

If you Go to the app store on your phone, then go to updates you should have a purchased icon at the top.
Click on that and it will show the apps you have downloaded before as they are stored on the icloud.
Then you should be able to click on the app and redownload it, not sure if it will charge but its worth a try.

  • Songs after 7.0.6 update are grayed out and will not play

After I updated to iOS 7.0.6, some of my songs on my iPhone are grayed out and have a red circle with a small red square to their right (similar to the blue version in the iTunes store).  When I select these songs, they skip over that song, and two more before playing another completely different song.  If I try to play the songs by pressing the red circle/square, they just gray out completely (nothing plays).  Two hard resets and a restore hasn't fixed the problem.
Does anyone know what might be happening?

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • How can I activate the Billing Timer icons in MacFreeLance 3.13? They are "grayed out" and unresponsive. MacXware Support Suite has not provided a solution.

How can I activate the Billing Timer icons (Go, Pause, Stop)
in MacFreeLance 3.13? They are "grayed out" and unresponsive. MacXware Support Suite has not provided a solution.

Lack of support from that company seems to be a non-uncommon problem. But it's not a problem you will be likely to get help with in the Communities, and definitely not here in the "Using Apple Support Communities" forum which is for questions about the Communities themselves. If MacWare can't or won't help you, you may be stuck, though there was an email address posted in this thread:

Music wont play on my phone it says its there but its greyed out and wont play what do i do? Ive already re downloaded the music but its not playing on my iphone.

Ok i think i have found out how to do it. Unplug your i phone, go to settings and then reset then reset all data and settings. This will warn you that it is going to erase eveything on your phone.
DO NOT BACK UP BEFORE HAND
then restart your phone and restore back up from when you donwloaded the new IOS5. This should sort out your problem :-)

  • HT6437 My itunes cannot locate my ipod. All the sync option are grayed out and diagnostics says that itunes cannot find usb ports and that no device is connected when it is. What should I do to solve this issue?

So itunes is giving me problems. Since around Christmas time, itunes decided to stop reading my ipod. I connect it to my computer with the usb cable and my computer will recognize that a device is connected but itunes will not. If I go to file->devices and try to sync, all of my sync options are grayed out, while before it would just automatically sync.
When I run diagnostics it tells me that under ports that it cannot find usb ports (it has a green circle?), a type of cable isn't found, and that no device is connected with the usb cable (which my ipod is). I have been trying to fix this issue but nothing is working. I've tried restarting my ipod, itunes, and my computer, i've also tried resetting my ipod and uninstalling itunes then reinstalling itunes but nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Do the USB ports work for other devices?
    Does the iPod charge?

  • The apps on my iPhone 6 are grayed out and say "Waiting-" when i click on them.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 6. I backed up all my apps from my old iPhone 4 to my iTunes on my computer (MacBookPro). I then plugged in the new iPhone 6 and did a restore using the files from my old iPhone.
Everything transferred over perfectly but now, about half the apps I purchased on my old phone are grayed out. When I click on them they say "Waiting…" but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I am having the same problem. I have many dark icons that say waiting. I can't do anything with them. I can't even delete them because they do not get the little x on the upper right corner like the light apps get. I do not know what to do. If I call Apple they will charge me for support as my phone is over a year old.

  • Apps are grayed out and unable to sync

I am trying to sync multiple iPads using a Bretford Syncing Cart for 30 iPads.  When I choose to make changes to what apps are each iPad, I am not able to select the apps within the "apps tab"  They are grayed out.  I can not scroll through them, move them or add or delete any app.  The only way that I can make any changes is to restore the iPad to factory settings and start over each time.  I have run out of ideas to deal with this.  Anyone have any suggestions?

How to Remove “Other” Data from iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
    http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-remove-other-data-from-iphone/
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.
