HT204406 My iTunes Match gets stuck on step 1

My iTunes Match gets stuck on step 1 and won't go any further.  I will leave my computer on all day and night and iTunes Match doesn't move past step 1.  What can I do to resolve this issue?

Cancel it and try again.

  • ITunes Match gets stuck on Step 1: Gathering information

For about 2 months now (that I noticed) my iTunes Match doesn't work...it gets stuck on Step 1: Gathering information and keeps cycling and never gets to step 2.
I have to STOP the Matching.... click STORE>Turn off iTunes Match
then.. STORE>Turn on iTunes Match.. re-add my computer.. and then it works properly.
Anything wrong with my settings or is this a known issue/bug that will be fixed in a future release?
    Overall I'm satisfied with Match....
    Thanks,
    David Murphy

This should fix it (hopefully you'll only have to do steps 1 and 2):
    1. If you are using wireless networking, try connecting directly to your modem with a cable. Connections to the iTunes servers are a bit on the sensitive side and the occasional glitch can throw off matching if it has a lot of work to do. I have a "perfect" setup so I initially dismissed that as a solution (or part of one), but it does make a difference. Once it's working correctly you can switch back to a wireless connection and it should be fine from there.
    2. In iTunes, hold down the Option key (or the Shift key if you're using Windows) while you click Store, Turn Off iTunes Match. Hold down the same key again and close iTunes. Since there may be some things cached, restart your computer. Open iTunes and Turn On iTunes Match again.
    3. If Match does not complete, try a couple more times just to be sure. Note that Match completing doesn't mean everything is done - some changes trickle back over time, but it should report success.
    4. If you still have problems, you can do a complete reset by contacting Apple's iTunes Store team and ask them to cancel your Match subscription and refund it so that you can purchase and start Match again from scratch. Wait until your iTunes account shows the credit before doing this (just to be sure the entire cancellation process on the Apple side has completed).
I hope this works for you - it did for me and it's so nice to have it working perfectly.

  • HT204406 iTunes match is stuck on Step 1: Gathering Information about your iTunes Library

iTunes match is stuck on Step 1: Gathering Information about your iTunes Library.
It will not progress past step 1.
I have tryed re-installing iTunes, resetting everything and all that. No luck in getting it to work.
Any suggestions on how I get it to work?

    Hi..
"A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume iTunes at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button."
From here >  iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match
Can you click the Start button?
Sounds like the internet connection is timing out.
Try turning off your router for a few minutes, then turn it back on. Restart your Mac, launch iTunes and try again.

  • TS4062 HELP!!!  When I try to sync my iPhone with iTunes it gets stuck at step 2 and goes no further.  I have iTunes 10.6.3.25.  It happens all the time.  I have Windows 7.

Please help.  Every time I try to sync my iphone with itunes it gets stuck at step 2 and just spins.  I have iTunes 10.6.3.25 installed.  I've even shut down and rebooted.  Nothing helps.

Based on what someone else said, I am getting the "rotating ball of eternal sadness".  Yup.  That about describes it.

  • ITunes Match is "stuck" in step 3

iTunes Match is stuck half-way through step 3; after matching more than three thousand songs, it began to upload an additional ~600. It uploaded 300  songs, but will not upload the remaining 300. I've started and stopped, turned iTunes off and on, and turned my Mac off and on. Don't know if there's a problem with the next song in the queue, but can't find how to get it working, or in lieu of that, to skip to next song.

How to Fix Step 2 and Step 3 Errors in iTunes: Music Media Formats, and Checking Firewall
This solution assumes that you do not have corruption in your iTunes library database. To fix that follow the steps in Apple Support KB ht1251 above.
Step 1, 2, or 3 Hangs: Problems with Media Formats.
If you have heterogenous media formats in your music files, some of them will FAIL iTunes match, causing it to hang. This is a software error in iTunes match, which should mark the files as "Not eligible" instead of remaining stuck in an endless loop. These errors never occur if all the songs in the music library are unprotected AAC 256 kbps music files encoded by iTunes 10.5.1.
There are two basic ways to upgrade your song media formats to iTunes 10.5.1 AAC encoding - encode all of them at once, or do them selectively. In either method, you must delete the original version from iTunes and your file system. If you previously loaded them to iCloud, get rid of them there also.
You will be able to see a hung file in OS/X under Activity Monitor -> iTunes -> Inspect Process -> Open Files and Ports. In Windows you will have to use standard Task Manager inspections.
In my iTunes library, I found that certain AAC (m4a) files which were encoded in before 2011 were stuck, and m4p Protected AAC files. I had already fixed the encoding of MP3s, so I was suprised that music previously encoded by iTunes was hanging up.
You may convert all files which were not encoded at 256 kbps AAC with a right-mouse click. Find them:
    1) individually in iTunes as you discover them in Open Files and Ports trace, or
    2) by creating a sort smart playlist that matches their pattern. For example, a playlist with bit-rate < 256k.
After converting them, you MUST delete the previous file(s) from your iTunes library. I suggest you move the actual file to trash, and delete the trash. Archive the files if you wish. If any of them were already matched to iTunes Match, you must delete them there also.
After getting rid of older media formats, re-run iTunes match. Step 2 should complete, and your Open Files and Ports window should no longer show any music file open in your iTunes library. If it does show, convert it and remove the old file from your library.
If you have converted your music library and Step 3 is still stuck, it is likely a Firewall problem. Check the last line in Open Files and Ports, and use the information in the last rows to check your firewall settings. The upload port is shown in this form, 192.168.1.1:53089->72.21.214.201:https. If you see this type of row, but nothing is being uploaded, a firewall or other issue is blocking that port.
In my case the block was created by my broadband modem settings. Check with the installation guide for your modem - typically they can be managed by a http:// address such as http://192.168.1.254. Change the firewall settings as needed.

  • HT204406 My iTunes Match will not complete Step 3 of the uploading process. Many songs are "waiting"

My iTunes Match will not complete Step 3 of the uploading process. I have over 700 "items" designated as "waiting." I have restarted multiple times but it stalls at this point.

I've been reading all these comments about how match is not working and people are having problems uploading all their songs.  My problem is more basic than that.  When I open iTunes I immediately get the spinning color disc of death and I can't do anything at all.  I can't go to the store.  I can't listen to a song. I can't do anything.  I just tried to sync my iPod.  I pugged it into my computer, iTunes started up, looked like it was going to sync, then the spinning disc again.  So forget match; I can't do anything, nada, nothing.   I even tried to send my iTunes application to trash, but I got a message saying I couldn't do that because it was needed for OS X.  Talk about a do loop, this is unbelievable.
Is anyone else having the problem I am having?

  • Match getting stuck on step 1!

Initiating Match for the firt time and it keeps getting stuck on step 1!  I have tried three times to restart it and it gets stuck at different number of song each time but aobut 2/3 rds through.  what do I do?

Relax this is not unusual, suggest you work through the guidance in the User Tips area of this forum.  Often it is simply a matter of identifying the few Songs that the process objects to.

  • Why does itunes match get stuck on the 2nd step and then cause itunes to crash?

hello. I have been having an odd and annoying problem with itunes match for the past few months. Everytime I launch itunes, match comes on and starts working but then crashes in the second step. It says that it is matching my songs with the songs in the itunes store and when it gets to about 4500 out of 4600, it stops and then a pop up comes up that says itunes has stop working and it needs to close. In addition, i just tried to add some new music to my library and it's cloud status is "waiting" and will not change. Oddly, A few of the songs did load (only 7 out of 48). I have tried restarting the computer and updating match in the itunes store. I even uninstalled itunes and redownloaded it. This is getting rather frustrating and help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

    YES.
I posted a question about this in another thread and it got no responses.
    It's not the internet connection.
I also have an iPhone 4. My Match library is quite large.
When it gets hung up like this, you can look at the download status in the iTunes Store app and it will show "Processing..." as the status on those stuck files. The others just sit and wait.
If you delete the stuck downloads, it won't successfully download those files (not for me at least) unless you restart your phone.
I don't have the answer, unfortunately.

  • ITunes Match now stuck on Step 1 - won't move to step 2.

    Hi
I turned on iTunes Match on Day One and it worked like a dream.
On Friday, I plugged in an older iPod which came back from repair - from the pre-Match days.
It moved a bit of "purchased" content from my iPod to the iMac's library.
It was at this point that iTunes Match started misbehaving.
It gets to the end of Step 1 and gets stuck or stalls.
Now  iTunes Match is re-visable in the column on the left, the syncing wheel spins and the genius wheel spins.
I have checked the forums.... but none of the proposed soultions work.
    For example:

  • HT4914 iTunes Match gets stuck gathering info...

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and during the matching process it seems to get stuck "Gathering information about your iTunes library..." forever. It hasn't moved past that point since the 14th. Any suggestions on how to get it to work?

How did you ever fix this?  I am having the same problem.

  • Itunes match is stuck at step 3

iTunes match has uploaded most of my songs, but with about 800 left it is stuck at step 3...so I will identify which ones need to be uploaded but once it tries to start uploading it stops and repeats step 1 and 2 again.  This cycle continues.  I have

One of the most common causes of this behavior is a track that the scan is choking on.
Switch to the Song view and enable the iCloud Status column by pulling down View > View Options and selecting the "iCloud Status" check box. Close the window.
Now sort on the new column and find all the tracks that are "waiting" or "ineligible." Highlight all the tracks and right-click, then choose "new playlist from selection" so you can make a note of what the tracks are. After you've noted them down, delete them from the iTunes library by highlighting all of them in the playlist, typing Option+Delete on the keyboard. If prompted, hide the tracks in the cloud but do not move the files to the trash.
Now quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, and re-launch it. Let it connect to the iTM service. Now you can start adding the tracks back to the library a few at a time.
This method should allow you to track down which track, or tracks, the scan is hanging on.

  • Itunes match is stuck on step one. Help!

    Hi!
I am hoping that someone can help me out.
I use a Macbook (MAC OS X version 10.7.4) and recently ran into a problem while using the latest version of Itunes. I have paid for and use the Itunes Match service and, as of three days ago, my computer will no longer fully download and manage the Match membership I use.
It begins the "Gathering information about your itunes library" step one process, loads to 100% and then stops. It freezes and for hours goes no further. It will not complete step number 2 or 3. I have read up on this online, transfered my playlist to the desk top, deleted the old one, reconnected it to the new one and still the same thing has happened.
I would appreciate any help that you all might be able to give.
Hate to pay for a service that I am not able to use. I have purchased albums that are on one device but, on my laptop, I cannot connect to because it will not load.
    Thanks!
    Mark

List the Songs in Song view by iCloud Status.  Remove any that are status waiting to a temporary folder.  Allow the iTunes Match process to complete.
Once the process is complete, ensure you have a full secure backup of all Songs.
Import, the Songs from the temporary folder a few at a time, updating iTunes Match on each cycle.
Should any remain an issue, add to a playlist, burn to audio CD, delete from iTunes, import from CD as 256 AAC and update iTunes Match once more.
