HT204517 Does Apple Watch measure flights climbed?

Was wondering if you need to have your iPhone with you when walking up flights of stairs in order for Apple Watch to record flights climbed. Flights climbed is measured in the health app on iPhone. Does anyone know?

The Apple Watch does not have a barometric sensor. You need an iPhone 6/6+.

  • What is being measured in "flights climbed"

I use a StairMaster Step-mill to get cardio exercise.  At the end of 20 minutes it tells me I have climbed the equivalent of the Transamerica Pyramid...  not sure how may flights that equates to.
My question is - will the health app measure this activity as climbing stairs?  How does it calculate/measure "flights climbed".  I have the iPhone 6Plus.

I don't believe it will count using your stair master as climbing stairs at all. It bases it's stair climbing on combined steps and changes in altitude. Since you're not actually climbing, it would not see it as climbing. You can enter the data in manually, though.

  • Apple Watch - Body Temperature Monitoring

How does Apple Watch monitor body temperature? And does Apple Watch require an additional accessory to monitor body temperature during workout mode?

It doesn't. It monitors heart rate and movement.

  • Apple watch flights climbed

Yesterday, I wore my watch all day, and it seemed to accurately log all of my activity (standing, walking, my 3 mile run). When I checked my Health dashboard on my phone, it also showed my flights climbed. I charged the watch last night, and today, my health app does not have my watch as a source, and is only counting the one flight I climbed with my phone on me. How do I get the health app to use my watch info? Phone and watch software both are up to date. Thoughts?

I believe the Health app is getting the flights climbed data from the phone. If you don't have it with you, no data will be acquired. I can't find any information that the Apple Watch will track flights climbed on its own.

  • Why did my apple watch go from processing to preparing for shipping then back to processing? Did this happen to others? What does this mean?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

  • Does anyone's arm/shoulder/wrist get sore or tired from the angle of using or playing with their Apple Watch?m

HI. My arm seems to be fatigued already from the angle at which I have to look at or use my apple watch. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

mine gets sore/tired after only like 10 seconds.  that's why they came up with this whole glances thing lol.  if you're going got be doing anything intensive then rest your arm on something or hold something with your watch hand

  • Apple Watch does it make provisions for left-handers? either a mirror image version, or the ability to rotate the display 180º allowing it to be worn on the right wrist and controlled with the left hand?

Does the apple Watch accommodate left-handed people? is there a mirror image option, or can the display be rotated 180º, allowing the watch to be worn on the right wrist, and manipulated with the left hand? Just wondering if you have thought about that?
    Thanks,
    Rick
PS: none of the "communities " accessible to me seemed appropriate for this question, so I am posting here, hoping someone will forward it on to the proper place in Apple.

There's a option when setting up the watch to set it up for left handed users. That and the easily user revisable straps will accommodate lefties.

  • HT3209 Why does apple not allow me to download an hd movie to my pc? Why doesnt apple get it that I simply want to download a hd movie to my computer so that I can repeatedly watch the hd movie via apple tv to my pc as opposed to using isp bandwidth?

    See title.

This does not answer you question as to "why does apple", because for some reason Apple will treat us like children and try to do everything for you. An unrelated example would be trying to change the IP address of an Airport Extreme Base Station. You cannot. It will always grab the first IP in your subnet whether you like it or not. OK I digress. What I can say is that iTunes, in it's infinite wisdom, will look at your display and decide whether it will playback a HD movie (minimum 1280x800). If not, based upon display settings, it will refuse you the HD download. The "why" I cannot answer other than if you buy the HD movie on any other device like your iPhone 4 or iPad, you cannot share it from your library. So, maybe they get to sell more copies of the movie? That's my best guess. I've been an Apple guy since I first bought my Apple IIe. But honestly, I fume at them for being entirely non-responsive to their customers. Another example is the loss of the scroll arrows starting in OS Lion. Despite thousands and maybe millions of customer complaints, they refuse to listen. (Wow, I feel so much better...)

  • Apple Watch band is too short for me

I've checked out size of band for Apple Watch and all of these model are too short for me. Even Classic Buckle that is the longest type of band in all family is still not fit. My wrist size is 230mm. Feel so sad...... Hope Apple will made longer band size in the next gen.

Let me try this again. (This is for a stainless 38).
I saw the specs on the band. I tried to use a tape measure to determine if it would fit, and I should have had help as that is hard to do alone. But is seemed alright, and I ordered the watch.
I am a watch junkie. I have never had a problem like this. You come to expect a certain "standard" when you buy a watch, and ALL of my watches have a longer
strap, and I guess (Shame on me) I assumed so would the Apple Watch.
The band fits, so to speak, but the part that is left after you pass it though the buckle, is not long enough, and the band keeper-loop thingey does not have enough band to keep it in place. Therefore you are constantly having to slide the loop back over it to keep it in place.
I could send it back, but you might imagine how I feel about that. I made sure I got mine on the 24th because I stayed up and ordered it right after midnight on the 10th. I really wanted the watch.

  • Does Apple plan to have exchagable Battries

Does Apple have any plans on having battery packs for the MacBooks?  I was wondering, since if you go on a long flight and want to use the MacBook to watch movies, after so long, you will run out of juice.  I know that even if you could swap battery packs that they too would run down, but it would give some extra time.
Just wondering.  Or, is there an assoccery to extend the battery usage?

  • Apple watch workout is way off on calories

I've used the apple watch workout app and the approximate calories burned is way off from what it should be. Is there any way to calibrate it so it will be more accurate? It shows only about half the calories burned that I know it should be.

    Hi poolmanrob,
Yes, there is a way to calibrate your Apple Watch to improve the results shown in Workout and Activity.  By following the steps in the article linked to below, your Apple Watch will then be calibrated.

I also recommend going through the best practices outlined below to ensure you get the best Workout measurement.
    Get the best measurement
Your Apple Watch will estimate your measurements during workouts based on the information that you entered during setup, but you can further improve its accuracy using these tips:
Wearing your Apple Watch regularly can improve the accuracy of the Activity and Workout apps.
Choose the Workout that best matches what you’re doing. For example, if you're running on a treadmill, choose Indoor Run.
For GPS accuracy when you walk, run, or cycle outdoors, select the appropriate Workout and bring your iPhone. This will also help calibrate the accelerometer in Apple Watch for times when you don’t have GPS, such as during treadmill workouts or when you're running outside without your phone.
To get the most accurate heart rate measurement when you use Workout, make sure your Apple Watch fits snugly on top of your wrist. The heart rate sensor should stay close to your skin.
You can also use another heart rate monitoring device, such as a chest strap. To pair an external heart rate monitor with your Apple Watch, tap the Settings app on the Home screen, then tap Bluetooth and select it under Health Devices. Learn more about the Apple Watch heart rate sensor, its accuracy, and its limitations.

  • Apple Watch calorie burn

MY Apple Watch is showing a much lower calorie burn, about half, compared to equipment at my gym and other apps such as Runkeeper. Why is this? I was expecting a difference but not that much. For example of the cross trainer I work out for 40 minutes with my heart beat over 170, the cross trainer says 55o calories, the Runkeeper app is similar and the watch was 240 calories.

    Greetings Janebi1,
It seems you are concerned about the workout results after using your Apple Watch. The article below may help you calibrate your Apple Watch for better results:
