What do you mean by integrate? Did you enroll the iPhone 4S into profile manager on earlier versions of OSX Server?
We need more info on your statement that you could integrate the iPhone 4S.
What kind of error message do you get and where, where does it fail?

I suppose you could try temporarily removing:
From /Home/Library/Preferences/
com.apple.iCal.plist
com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
From /Home/Library/Containers/
com.apple.iCal
com.apple.CalendarAgent
The two just above are folders (caches.)
Put the above on your Desktop or in the Trash (but don't Empty).
Do one at a time to see if it fixes the problem. I'm afraid if not, then the only other solution I can offer is to reinstall Mavericks.

Read the KB. Earlier today I had a fail to sync - I closed my Calendar app and the reopened and all was good.
Sometimes just closing the app the relaunching is all it takes. At other times a reboot of the Mac is all that is needed.

OSX Server DHCP Service - Support for tftp-server or bootp-server entries

We have a bunch of IP phones that get their initial setup from DHCP. On a Linux box, we can add the entries:
option tftp-server-name
or
option boot-server
We do this to tell the phones where to download their settings/firmware from. Does OSX DHCP support this? If so, what entries do I have to put in NetInfo/config/dhcp to make this work??

Personally I never got that dirty and fiddled aroung os x's bootpd but as you can read in its man page:
Regardless of whether bootpd knows the type of the option or not, you can always specify the DHCP option using the data
property list type e.g.:

i can understand that software support need hardware ability. but spare parts? what on earth . i have 2 desk tops need power supply 2006 and 2008 and its look like apple stopped the spare parts for both of them . ok some of will wonder saing its tool old mac . my answer to them why we buy apple stuf ? because its last longer than the others. but what defrint its make if there is no more parts to last that long

Apache Directory on OSX Server for Windows PC's???

Is it possible to use Apache Directory Server as a service to provide Profiles, Home Shares, Individual Configurations, etc to Windows PC's as OSX Server does not support Windows Operating System after 10.7

I have not setup a Samba4 system myself but I have found the following how-tos for you. I have used Ubuntu Server myself. The main difference between Ubuntu Server and client is that the Server does not have a GUI interface installed as standard. This is in this case a good idea as it reduces the processor and memory requirements. I would strongly advise going this route i.e. a CLI only interface.

You will still need to configure it and install the Samba components but at least Ubuntu Server itself will be already installed for you.

Releasing unused DHCP IP addresses in OSX Server 10.4

In OSX Server 10.4.11 is there any way to release unused DHCP client addresses in the Server Admin app? We have 73 clients showing (and only 30 on the network) because various computers have been added to the network and removed/reinstalled at various times, and that means we're running out of available addresses in our little chunk of the subnet.
We've previously set a longish lease time on DHCP addresses because we've had problems in the past with sleeping Macs being woken up and having clashing IPs with other Macs that have had that IP reassigned to them, but it means that we do have a long list of unused DHCP clients.
Does Server 10.5/10.6 allow the release of DHCP addresses from the admin app (oh, for a right-click delete!), or is that just not possible in the DHCP protocol (NB I'm trying to release unused IP addresses, not asking live clients to rescind their IP address).

It's not legal within the DHCP protocol - as far as the server is concerned, that IP address has been handed to the client and should be reserved for that client until the lease expires. The server has no way of knowing whether the client is still using the address.
You may be able to break the rules, though - the server stores the DHCP leases in /var/db/dhcpd_leases, so you should be able to stop the DHCP server, edit the file to remove the unnecessary leases, then start the server back up. No guarantees, tho'.

Mac OSX server not supported behind Airport Extreme NAT router?!!

For a customer, I recently installed a new XServe, within a local network with an Airport Extreme (n) with FW 7.4.2. Mac OSX Server manages the router (which has a fixed IP from the ISP). Because the Mac OSX Server runs a DNS server (supporting a local domain), OSX Server reconfigured the Airport Extreme, so that it would forward DNS queries to the server. The server's dns server will forward queries for non-local domains to the ISP's dns servers.
All clients get their IP configuration using DHCP from the router. You can't use the DHCP service of the server, as you can't disable DHCP on the router (in NAT mode).
All clients get the router's IP as the dns server.
HOWEVER:
The Airport Extreme can't connect to the internal DNS server! *It doesn't seem to be able to route dns requests to the internal network* (verified using nslookup). Any dns queries sent to the router will time out.
Come on, Airport Extreme team.. you can't claim the Airport Extreme to be the ideal router in combination with an OSX server, if this simple and very common setup is not supported! How hard can it be to either:
...*Allow us to disable DHCP on the router* (even when in NAT mode), so we can use the OSX server for this (which will dispatch the correct DNS settings)
...*Allow the router to route DNS queries to the local DNS* (OSX) server (which should be working anyway)

Apple Support said OSX Server could not be used as a file server only

Hi There,
We bought OSX server thinking it would be easier than MS Small Business Server 2003 to setup, administer and maintain, as well as be more compatible with our mac studio.
The simple setup we would like is:
- A file server for our Mac studio (7x macs)
- A "My Documents" style redirect to backup email from the client machines
- Some sort of secondary backup to a HD on the server (primary Backup is already taken care of)
We're using a single 1.8ghz G5 box as the hardware
After a lot of trouble with the documentation and the setup example in the manual, I called Apple Tech Support.
I was told in no uncertain terms that if we didn't have a fully qualified domain name on the server (and all the services needed to run it), then I could not configure the server as a simple File Server with a My Documents redirect and that Apple could not support me. - IS THIS TRUE?
I am not a network/IT/PC guy, I'm a graphic designer, but I've found the installation and setup of MS Small Business Server to be much easier than OSX so far (despite the MS documentation).
Any help or direction would be very much appreciated.

If you need to just setup a FileServer then you do not need OpenDirectory or DNS. You just need AFP and Windows File Sharing turned on.
You can create a windows workgroup and setup shares in WorkGroup Manager using the internal users and groups database.
When the windows clients boot up you could set up a persistent mapping of a volume which would contain your email data. You would use a \\192.168.x.x type connection from the RUN menu.
It sounds like you could do with some more help on how best to use the server. I rekon you would be better off not having a simple fileserver (though it would work!) and make use of the extra functions availiable in the server software. On OS 10.4 server you can create a Windows Domain Controller that would allow all your PC home directories to be stored on the server, this will ensure that the Desktop, My Documents and anything elese the user stores in their profile will be safe and backed up on the server. You can also do this for the the Macs, in fact you can set it up so you can loggon to any PC in the office and your user information, desktop wallpaper and other settings follow you, if you were to then logon to a Mac you would have your documents follow you around the office. This works great for people hot-desking and using different types of computer.
I don't understand why you were advised to have a fully-qualified domain. When I have setup OpenDirectory and Windows Domain Controllers with DNS and LDAP etc I have just made up a domain name on the DNS server like "mycompany.net" and call the server "server.mycompany.net" and printers "epson.mycompany.net". The only problem with this is because if you were to use a domain name that is registerd on the internet then your computers would have trouble resolving that name, so don't use "apple.com" or "google.com".

OSX Server password reset portal doesn't communicate password requirements

Here's the story:
We are migrating our users to a new fileserver running OSX Server 2.2.2 on 10.8 from an existing 10.4 server. We have prepopulated the user accounts with the same login names as our old server, and set temporary passwords for each user that they will need to reset. The plan was to have each user set their custom password via the built in web portal. We've got Windows and Mac Users, so we are expecting at least the windows users will have to set their passwords this way, as the Mac users can be forced to reset their password at first login.
The issue is that we are are implementing stronger password requirements on the new server, but the password reset portal doesn't seem to communicate that at all. When entering the existing password, and a new password that is not strong enough, we get the error: "Your password could not be changed. Please retype your old password and try again" which is misleading because it is an issue with the new password being too weak, not the old password being incorrect.
Is this normal behavior for this reset portal? It's pretty basic, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's just the way it is, but we are looking for a way to keep it as simple as possible for our users, and to avoid unnecessary confusion.
For the record, our password requirements are:
password minimum length = 8 characters
passwords must contain:
at least one letter
at least one number
at least one special character
differ from last 5 passwords used
be reset on first login

Which i tried. I ran through the help link above which all seemed to work until the end... and i got this error...
Which means i couldn't get to the part that sets up a new user. :-(

Osx server hardware support

Hey guys
I want to buy a Mac Mini but I'm really confused as to if I the 799 Mac mini will run osx server software. I can see when I go to the App Store it is a 20.00 upgrade but will the hardware support it? I went to an apple store and the guy showed me in the App Store that it's there for upgrade however when I called the apple 800 number they said you can't run the server OS on anything other than the server model.
Any clarification is appreciated.

Outlook doesn't want to connect with OSX Server on 2 out of 3 clients

I have three computers on which I have installed Outlook 2011. All three are running Mavericks. On one of them, a MacBook air, I have established an outlook account connecting to my OSX server with no problems. On the other two computers when I set the parameters the same way, I cannot establish an outlook account. When I use Apple Mail on any of the three machines, I am able to establish accounts for iCloud and the OSX server with no problems. Can anyone point me to the source of this problem or a method for trouble shooting it?

Fresh install Mavericks, then install OSX Server 3.1.1, it doesn't work

Using a mac mini.
Wiped the hard drive clean.
Installed Mavericks.
Created 1 user.
Right away, went to the App Store and installed OSX Server.
Ran the Server.app.
It said everything went ok.
It didn't.
Trying to see what could have gone wrong. I found the /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Data is empty and the logs keep spamming how nothing can connect to the Postgre Database.
I will try to get more logs in here. However I am trying an install from the recovery partition at the moment.
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.
