HT204655 external camera hook up

Since the new  LCD monitor I will be using my my new mac mini 2014 does not have a camera I got a camera to hook up to the mini.
Do I plug it into the mini before I turn it on for the first time while I am hooking up my Monitor, etc?-or would I wait until I have the machine set up and do it later on..?
Sorry about all the questions I am a newbie at the mac mini.

Do I plug it into the mini before I turn it on for the first time
Read the instructions when installing the camera, different cameras, different software require different installation.

  • External camera and ichat

anyone able to hook up an external camera and use it sucessfully with Ichat.
I have a logitech quickcam. I use my macbook with an external camera therefor it is closed and I do not have use of my camera. I would like to use it to do video chatting.
    Any suggestions?

    Okay,
So I hooked up my logitech quick cam 4000 to my macbook. The drivers are installed.
When I go to use Ichat it get this message that my camera is in use by another application. All applications are closed except ichat. I tried a restart same issue.
I then disconnected the camera, I tried again and I got the same message.
I then disconnected my external monitor, opened my macbook and tried the built in isite and it worked fine. (remember I am hooked up to an external keyboard and mouse and use my macbook with the cover closed)
I then shut down, restarted back with the macbook closed and i tred to open the logitech software. I got the same message camera is in by another application.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can get my external cam to work with my macbook?

  • How can I use the built-in Isight camera with an external camera (usb/firewire) at the same time?

How can I use the built-in Isight camera and an external video camera at the same time?
I'm wanting to stream over Oovoo/Skype/etc. using 2 cameras.
    Thanks

Simple question with a not so simple answer.
    (a) If you mean that you want to run multiple apps simultaneously using a different camera with each app, you may encounter computing power limitations.  Digital video is processor intensive.  The only way to know if your Mac can do this it to try it.  If the video does not work together but each app works when it it the only app running, you are likely overloading your Mac's ability to process and/or move all the required data in your data bus.  You can get a better indication of whether this is the case by watching your Activity Monitor utility while running the apps you want to use.
    (b) If you mean that you want to have more than one compatible camera connected to your Mac simultaneously for ease of changing between video sources, some, but not necessarily all, apps you are using to operate your camera(s) allow you to select between your cameras.
How you select among connected cameras depends on which application you are using. Here is how camera selection works in a few examples:
    (1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see the "Camera" choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your cameras. In that case, consider the suggestions fromhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 for iSight problems or refer to your other camera's documentation for help.
This particular choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
    (2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie6 HD uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, and because my external iSight was not connected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting an additional Mac compatible webcam should allow you to choose either camera.
Other iMovie versions work slightly differently.
iMovie 9 (from iLife '11) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84285.html
iMovie 8 (from iLife '09) is slightly different as explained in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
In general, you can use your Mac's help for the application in use to find out how to select among more than one connected camera.
    (3) Photo Booth in Snow Leopard 10.6.x and later uses the Photo Booth > Camera menu command to select which camera to use.
Note for readers with older Mac OS X: The previous version of Photo Booth that came with Tiger (10.4.x) is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless your built-in iSight is already occupied as the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use an external camera.
(If you have an external Firewire camera connected, it may be used in preference to any USB webcam. If that is a problem for you, merely disconnect the problem Firewire device.)
    (4) For FaceTime, launch the app and click the Video menu item.
If your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, a "Camera" section listing the cameras from which you can choose will appear there. Clicking on the desired camera name will let you select the one you want as shown in this image from my Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
If your Mac recognizes only one compatible camera, the "Camera" section will not appear in the Video menu, but FaceTime will automatically use the connected camera that is recognized by OS X.
    (5) I do not use Skype oir Oovoo.  For those or other apps, see Help for each app for info on how to select your desired camera.

If you are willing to pay $24.99 per year for iTunes Match you can put your library in the cloud provided you don't have more than 25,000 tracks.

  • I want to use a external cam with xp in bootcamp but....

Ive read reports that you will blue screen if you try and use your built in isight with xp.
I would like to therefore use an external one with msn messenger in xp on my intel imac.
My question is can I disable the built in isight before I do this otherwise if im in msn and I click 'video' then surely the imac will look for the isight rather than the external webcam thus causing a blue screen?
basically I just want my external cam to take priority over the built in isight when in windows.

Yes, you should disable the iSight camera under Imaging devices in the Device Manager.

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • Is it possible to plug an external camera into 1/8" a/v jack on my iPhone a

Is it possible to plug an external camera into 1/8" a/v jack on my iPhone and view/record live video
I am constantly installing surveillance cameras at various locations; I'd like to be able to use my iPhone as the live view device (as opposed to a larger portable DVD player).
Is this possible, will the iPhone accept a video signal via the 1/8" jack like the external microphone, or even through the service dock
In short I want the composite cable to provide a VIDEO IN, and a video out
If this has already been developed please point me in the right direction. If not, any idea on how to develop the APP/Coding/Hardware, would also be of great help. Thank you in advance for you help.

I am looking to do the same i have ben looking on the net the last few months but have found nothing it has to be possible if you can play video on a tv you should be able to record. Maybe a developer would be interested in developing a app.

  • Can I use my iPod touch 4G as an external camera to my MacBook?

I want to use my iPod 4G (or any other iDevice) as an external camera on my Mac. Is there any way I can do this?

I have a cable from OWC (macsales.com). When I first tried it, there was a tiny burr of metal on one plug that made it a bit hard to insert in the TB port on the MBP. A quick burnishing with a wooden dowel sorted that and it now fits fine.
I believe this is the one I ordered:

Is there an external camera for ipad1 available and does it work with 4.3.5? Really hoping to get facetime going on my ipad

AFAIK, no one makes an add on camera for the iPad1.  If selling your iPad1 and buying an iPad2 is out, then you can use Skype on the iPad1.  Although the other person won't see you, the iPad1 will receive Skype video so you can see them, if they enable their video.

  • External Camera not functioning correctly

It looks like there's some sort of conflict going on between the way photobooth is running and the way an external camera operates. I have a logitech C910 as I primarily run my macbook pro closed and docked. Upon installing Lion when trying to use photobooth the camera was severely lagged, by about a minute, and would then freeze for nearly that long before accelerating the feed to catch back up, all to do it over again.
This also made video chat in skype completely useless as it would not only cause my outbound feed to lag, but would screw with the inbound feed. I found another discussion talking about face tracking not working, and to check if it was running in 32 bit mode, if so to uncheck that box. What I found in this case was checking the box made the camera function like before.
I'm not 100% on why a setting in photobooth would affect skype like that, but I guess it's just applying those settings to camera functionality over all. So if anyone else is having this sort of trouble with a third party camera, try doing a get info on photobooth and checking 32 bit mode.

Following up on this. It looks like it can still be hit or miss on this actually functioning correctly.

  • Can the N8 take an external camera?

    Random question.
With all the AV connections the N8 has, does anyone know if you can use it as a recorder with an external camera such as a bullet cam or suchlike?
Just looking to get a clip on camera for 1st person recording of sports (biking, skiing etc) and wondered if I could save myself some money and hassle using my N8 in some way. Not sure I'd want to attach my N8 to my handlebars though!

    Sadly not.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • My Macbook is not finding my NIkon D70s.  I do not see it in the finder and my Adobe Bridge is not recognizing that I have a camera hooked up.

In the past I have downloaded pictures from my Nikon D70s.  This time it is not showing up in the finder and Adobe Bridge does not see it as a device.  I have the camera hooked up and I have it turned on like I would normally do when dwonloading pictures.  I think the last time I had it connected to the computer I may have turned it off before ejecting it properly.  Wondering if that has anything to do with my problem and if so how can I fix it now?

Launch Image capture and see if it shows up there.
