    Hi,
Thanks! I forgot to add, I have debonded and rebonded the bluetooth in car and phone and have carried out 3 restores on the phone in my ITunes. All to no avail. I have also jsut spent £40 on a lead from Ford that has made no difference too! I went to them today to request a software upgrade on my car as I though perhaps the lack of connectivity in the car was down to the car being behind the iOS5 software but was informed there was no need for an upgrade and this problem is purely an apple problem! Is there any way around the downgrade? Or are apple gong to resolve this problem at all??

  • Why is ArchLinux consuming so much RAM?

I really don't know where to start with this thread.  Hoping a few of you veterans will be able to help pinpoint my memory consumption by ArchLinux.   I have read lots of places where ArchLinux runs with a very small memory footprint, but that hasn't been my experience, which is tragic becuase I really like ArchLinux the most of all the distros I've tried.
I don't have anything that usual installed, I don't think.  If I go from a fresh boot up, my experience is that I end up using about 400MB out of the 768 MB total physical memory (eventually my system will slow to a crawl with about 95% of RAM used).  And I'm not really doing much.  A little Audacious, a little file mgmt with Thunar, a little web browsing...that's it really.  I expected some rogue application to be to blame but that doesn't seem to be the case.   It appears to be XFCE stuff mostly (and Thunar).  Here's what my system shows right now if I do

I'm astounded that xfce-related items would consume so much memory.  Also, Tomboy and Firefox really eat up memory in a hurry.  Thunar, too.  Is this normal?   Doesn't seem like it should be...
Oh, fyi, the daemons loaded at startup are:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa hplip cups hal)
Any help would be appreciated here.  I can send over any specifics about my system or outputs of a command as needed for remote troubleshooting.  Thanks!

If it never exceeds 95% , I don't see why there should be any slow downs.
Does it swap ? Thats much more important to check than the memory usage (even if its obviously linked).
If a lot of swap is used, then it's very bad indeed, and you're left with the two obvious choices :
    1) get more memory
    2) use less memory hungry apps
Recently, I set up Ubuntu (which is more bloated than Arch, with a ton of unneeded crap by default) on a box with 256 MB.
Just booting into an empty gnome session filled up all ram. Then trying to start OpenOffice made the system swap badly,
    and it was very slow.
I upgraded it to 512 mb, and everything is fine now.
So I find it strange that 768 mb can't handle arch + xfce.

  • Why does coreaudiod consume so much cpu?

I looked into activity monitor and found coreaudiod consuming 30-40% cpu cycles on my iBook. I have no songs, videos or alert sounds playing.
Can any one tell me what is happening? Why is coreaudiod bugging my cpu? How can i prevent it?

  • Why does Magic Mouse use much more battery power than the keyboard?

I have the Bluetooth versions of the keyboard and the Magic Mouse. I use the same rechargeable batteries in each. Yet the mouse has now come to the end of a THIRD set of AAs, while the keyboard still has 60% of its first set.
Why? They are both constantly in use, so why does the Mouse drain batteries so much faster than the keyboard? Viz: the mouse about once a week (two, max), while at this rate, it will be another month or more before the keyboard drains.

Actually I don't! I consider myself a 'power user' in that I will always use the keyboard first, and I learn keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything I do regularly.
I would guess my use is 50:50 at worst?

  • Why do i have so much other on my phone and how do i get rid of it

why do i have so much other on my phone and how do i get rid of it

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • [SOLVED] Why do closed nvidia graphic drivers consume so much RAM?

I'm using nvidia Geforce 7600GT graphic card, and I tried to install nvidia-304xx graphic drivers. Everything went smoothly, but after my system started I saw that there is 4x times more RAM consumption when compared it to nouveau driver. See the following pics:
    http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/7117/starto.png
    up: nouveau || down: nvidia
    http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/148/graphicq.png
    left: nouveau || right: nvidia
I've been trying to solve this issue for 2 weeks, but I have no idea why my system consumes almost 400 MiB of RAM when only openbox is started. Compared to debian + full gnome -- 280MiB. Both systems are using the same nvidia driver. I tried even to borrow the kernel from debian and then install the drivers, but this doesn't help. Still apps in the graphic environment consume several times more RAM.
As you can see, having only 1GiB of RAM I can't afford to have 400MiB openbox. Try to think about opening web browser or other apps. xD
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? I saw similar thread on this forum, but I can't find it anymore, and there was exactly the same situation, or more or less.

I updated IOS 6 in my device, it is performing worse. Consuming too much battery in a very short time. How can I "downgrade IOS version?

Downgrading isn't supported and wouldn't help.  You need to fix your phone.
    1. Delete and reinstall all email accounts.
2, Restore the phone in iTunes, first  using a backup and if needed as a new phone.

  • Why "Home & Lock Screen" consume more than 20% battery life in iOS 8.3?

Hi, I also got the battery issue after upgrading to the iOS 8.3.
My battery will drop from 100% to 30% within 4 hour battery usage (you can find this is the data in the Settings->General->Battery Usage->Usage)
When I go to check the battery usage of each app, I see "Home & Lock Screen" use 23% battery within 24 hours.
I just dont understand what does "Home & Lock Screen" do basically, and why it consumed so much battery usage?
Anyone has idea or the similar situation?
    I'm using iPhone 5s

Hey guys, I believe it can let you extends your battery life significantly by doing the following.
(I did an experiment by myself in these days)
    1. Turn off the hands off
    2. Turn off the non-necessary background app refresh
    3. Turn off the Suggested Apps, both My Apps and App Store
    4. Set the location service for every app into "While Using" if you are able to
By doing the settings above, I can extends my battery life 15% and more.

  • Why do I have so much storage 'other' on my iPhone 5, ios7?

why do I have so much storage 'other' on my iPhone 5, ios7?

Hi:  I had the same issue.  I believe mine was due to the fact that I always installed software updates over wifi.  I believe doing so did not remove the old software from my phone, which then took up space in Other. Here's why I think this.
Yesterday, I had 6.2 GB of Other (on my 16GB iPhone).  Got the alert that a software update was available, but didn't have enough free space on my phone to update it over wifi.  I plugged my phone into my Mac today and ran the update on iTunes and the Other went down to 2.1 GB.  Note, when I previously updated software over wifi, it took about 3 minutes, today when I updated it by actually plugging into iTunes on my Mac, it took about 15 minutes.  It cleared everything off my phone and reinstalled it.
I'm not sure if this is the only reason for the Other storage to be high, but if you update over wifi, it could be.  Note:  if you're not due for an update, you may want to try resetting your phone and doing a restore from iTunes.  Be sure to back up your phone before doing this!
    Hope this helps.

  • Hi, My I-phone taking too much time to get charge

Hi, My I-phone taking too much time to get charge... I am charging through computer. It does not show whether its charging or not. Morning it was 40% , till now it 60 % after that it never moved...I have switched off my mobile and charging but percentage has moved to only 60%... I am charging from morning 9:00...its 1:30 still 60%....Please help

If you have the original battery in your iPhone 3G, it may have reached the end of it's useful life. You can contact Apple about a replacement battery. It may also be that the USB port on your computer doesn't put out enough power. Try charging the phone from a wall outlet.

  • Jnlp-launch consumes too much time to operate

    Hello all!
I want to discuss the UX we have using jnlp launch in JavaFX.
    You can find jira-discussion here:
    http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-14930
As you can see, it was recognized as major bug.
    What's wrong with jnlp-start?
    1. When user launch jnlp-file, red confusing window "Java 7..." appears immediately.
While it can be slightly useful in promotion purposes, but many of today's users will be disturbed. There is no association "Java means cool" today. Users wanted to launch new sexy app, but all they see is strange poster with "Java........."
Imagine pop-up window with "Adobe Flash XX.XXX" for several seconds every time when you try to launch flash game. Is it fine UX you await?
    2. I don't know, is it independent issue, or tightly coupled with previous one, but jnlp-start really consumes large amount of time.
On my machine with SSD most JavaFX apps can be launched from jar in less than 1 second.
But launching same app via jnlp take about 4-5 seconds total.
I suppose, it is self-evidently that launch of app with .jar files on disk must consume not much time than direct jar-launch.

    Hello,
    1) Should there even be a jnlp-start pop-up? Maybe a setting with no web-start pop-up or maybe the developer can provide own image to pop-up?
    2) It does seem a little slow. I see that in the jnlp file there are references to external URL's.... could it be that these URL's are being accessed every time the JNLP is launched causing this delay? Is the performance of the jnlp startup tied to the performance of the external site and its network?
    thanks
    jose

  • HT4623 Why my phone number is not registered with iMessage?

Hi Mark, I have 2 iphone but about Why my phone number is not registered with iMessage? I try on/off my iphone but i didn't sucessfull

    Turn imsg off/on.
If that doesn't work, I would than backup your data (considering the troubleshooting steps already listed) and "Erase all content and settings" on the device and setup as a new iphone and test imsg out in factory default. Try to activate your phone in factory default. If it shows your number / activates, there may be something in your current settings preventing imsg from operating / activating. If it does not activate, get in touch with carrier.
