HT2305 update time capsule

time capsule running slow, not deleting older backups

The TC may have run out of internal space..
Sometimes when you have upgraded a computer it will not delete older backups as it should.. the only way forward is a full wipe of the TC and start over.. you can archive off the old backups using the latest utility which finally returned the archive function and plug in a USB drive of the same size as the TC disk.
Wipe by using erase and start over.
You can also use a USB drive as TM target plugged into the TC but it is slow.. much slower than the internal drive.

  • Error code -29 and -54 updating Time Capsule

    Hi Folks,
While trying to update Time capsule .... New .... 802.11ac.  I get an error code -29. After a restart of the iMac I get erro code -54 while trying to update. Any ideas?
    Thanks

I just need to be clear what update you are doing.
Are you doing  a firmware update?
Or is this the setup and after the setup completes the TC is still wrongly setup and you are not able to complete the setup wizard.
Let me recommend you use ethernet and do it manually.
    See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5800974?tstart=0
This is common in Mavericks.. it is just networking at the tin cans and wet string level.

  • After updating Time Capsule to 7.7.2, Airport Expresses can no longer connect

After I update the Time Capsule firmware to 7.7.2, my three Airport Expresses can no longer connect to the Time Capsule (their orange lights blink and they appear inaccessible in the Airport Utility). When I downgrade, they are able to connect fine.
They are connecting to the Time Capsule over my 5GhZ wireless network.
    Any help?

  • Update time capsule, since ipod not connect wifi to time capsule

    Hello,
Since I update my Time Capsule(7.5.1), I cannont connect my ipod touch to wifi time Capsule.
message ipod is : impossible de rejoindre le réseau RES_Didier
My iMac is connected, my PC Windows is connected ans my Apple TV to.
    Only my ipod cannot connect.
But, if i connect my ipod to an other wifi network it is ok.
That is only with my time capsule that I cannot connect wifi!!
Do you know why ? can you help me ? (sorry my english is not very good)
    Thanks
    Didier

Did you upgrade install Mavericks? I think this can lead to all kinds of issues.. clean install the OS is the only way.
Do a full factory reset of the TC..
Use all SMB names.. that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
I strongly recommend when you have trouble.. even different names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz. So you can keep track of where the issue is.
Also use ethernet.. if you have not got ethernet port, buy a Thunderbolt to ethernet (much the preferred) or USB to ethernet.. if thunderbolt is missing or used.
Open network utility on your computer and find the listing for the TC.
    ie scan via netstat.
Make sure you have ipv6 turned on to link local.. this is now essential.
Use the IP address if it is static rather than name.. and try it in full network isolation by ethernet.
So Go .. Connect to server.
    AFP://10.0.1.1 (at default IP)
The default password is public.. you will need to type in a password.
If it fails the TC could be faulty.
Use ping via the terminal to make sure the network is working.

  • IPhone does not connect to updated Time Capsule

A couple of days ago my Time Capsule was updated to version 7.6. Although my Macbook Air, Windows PC en Windows laptop can still connect with the wireless network, my iPhone 4 does not anymore. My iPhone can connect to a wireless network in the neighbourhood though.
So far I have tried the following without success:
    - Powered the iPhone off and on again after closing all apps, putting Wifi on 'off'. I've tried this several times the last couple of days.
    - Renamed the Time Capsule
    - Renamed the Wireless network
    - Installed Airport utility on iPhone, but Airport utility doesn't find the network
    - Unchecked the use of wide channels in the Time Capsule wireless options
Most of the time the iPhone doesn't see the network at all. In that case I enter 'name, security and password', but then the iPhone says it can't find the network.
Sometimes the iPhone does see the network, but after entering the correct password it says its unable to connect.
    Anybody have another idea?

Problem is solved. After I changed the Time Capsule back to factory settings and after that had set my own settings, I still couldn't connect. Therefore I tried changing the networkname. It now seems iPhone can't connect to a networkname that starts with a number, contains dashes or is twenty or more characters long. I'm not sure which is the problem, but its one of these three for sure. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with version 7.6 or if this is a coincidence. I may have changed the networkname at the same day I updated the Time Capsule.
Networkname is now thirteen characters long and only contains letters.

  • I've updated Time Capsule firmware and now can't print wirelessly

I have recently updated my Time Capsule to Firmware 7.6.2 and now my computer no longer sees my Brother MFC9320-CW either wirelessly or via ethernet.  I am able to hook the printer up to the Time Capsule's USB port and print in that way.
The printer does not retrive a DHCP address either wired or wirelessly, and when I set it staticly, it still does not respond to a ping.  I hope I'm barking up the right tree here, as the firmware update on the time capsule is the only thing I can think of (aside from a network card failure on the printer, which its diagnostics insist is not the case) that is causing this.
My next step will be to set up a test WiFi network with a third-party router to remove the printer (network card failure option) from the equation.

To Downgrade Your Time Capsule Firmware:
Open Airport Utility: Applications → Utilities → Airport Utility
Find your device in the left-hand column and select the “Manual Setup” button
In the “Summary” window that pops up click on the word “Version”
In the pop up box that comes up next to the “Upload Version” select the previous version
    Click “OK”
Your Time Capsule will restart and be as good as new!

  • How do you update time capsule

Are Time Capsule updates automatic or is it done manually? If Manual then how?

airport utility will notify you if a firmware update is available
via airport utility > preferences, you have some options
for instance, if monitor airport wireless devices for problems is checkmarked, and a firmware update is available, airport utility will pop up occasionally to prompt you to upgrade.

  • Updating time capsule firm ware

    Friends,
how to check firmware version on time capsule?
How to update the firmware of time capsule?
    Thanks & regards
    Andreas

First, please tell us what version of AirPort Utility you are using so that we can provide instructions.
Open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left corner of the screen, and then click About AirPort Utility to see what version you have.

  • Update Time Capsule

I will be purchasing a new cable modem, do i need to upgrade my Wi Fi Time Capsule as well, It is the 2 TB version , not sure of its age. I use it for my wireless network

There is no need to "upgrade" your Time Capsule unless you are not happy with the performance of the Time Capsule.
But, whenever you add a new modem, you need to reset the Time Capsule's network settings back to factory defaults, so that the Time Capsule can be reconfigured to work correctly with the new modem.
To perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule......
Power off the Time Capsule for a full minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status
That is your signal that the Time Capsule has been reset, and you can now reconfigure the Time Capsule again.  You can use the same name for the Time Capsule and the same name for the wireless network that you used previously, if you wish. Or assign new names, if you prefer.

  • Update time capsule stopped backing up

I updated my Tiem Capsiule a few days ago with a new release, and it has stopped backing up.
Anyone had this problem or have a solution.
    Mant thanks./

If you are on SL.. go back to 7.5.2.. 7.6 firmware is buggy as anything. And there is nothing of any use to SL in there.

  • Time Capsule not working after 10.5.3 update

The following link shows screenshots of how Time Machine is behaving after the 10.5.3 update.
    http://badtastic.com/stuff/tmprobs.jpg
Ever since the lates 10.5.3 update Time capsule / Time machine has been incapable of successfully completing a backup. Its stuck in an endless cycle of unsuccessful backups. Apple, please fix this!
    / Badtastic

I finally broke down and called Apple tech support last night, just prior to my 2nd premature disconnection with the tech agent, they told me that this is not an issue with the 10.5.3 update, but rather an issue with Time Capsule itself. They were in the process of transferring me to their wireless 2nd level support when I got disconnected (again). I haven't called back yet, but will be sure to keep you updated once I find out the issue / resolution. I am in the process of moving everything from my Time Capsule HD and onto another Firewire HD so I can try a full format of the Time Capsule to see if that helps.
By they way... I am now back to using Time Machine with my Firewire HD without flaw. It's, in my opinion, related to Time Capsule and not the 10.5.3 update. What makes it worse is I paid $500 for the Time Capsule and $0 for the update.

  • Time Capsule crashes my MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I have just got back from a shopping trip with my shiny new Time Capsule. I have it set up as my wireless base station and am connected to the net. Problem I am having is that when Time Machine starts preparing to back up my MacBook Pro crashes and will not relaunch finder so I have to hold the power button down to turn off.
Why is it doing this??? Has anyone else had this problem??? How can I get my new shiny toy to work???
    Any info greatly received!

My time capsule worked great up until the May 1st update Time Capsule Update. A grey curtain comes down on the screen and a warning in several languages shows up and I have turn off my MBP. I am very frustrated with this problem and I can see I am not the only one:

  • Please help me with this time capsule! Really let me down!

So first thanks for looking into this. I bought the TC from london but i live in Malta so i cannot go to apple store (that is why I need your help guys).
This is what happened in brief:
-Removed my existing router and managed to connect to internet (imac) via time capsule
-Tried to setup and managed and then started first back up
-It had to back up 179GB and like 2 GB was backed up already... i was like updating the details using airport utility and set up a password for my network... because the details updated time capsule refreshed and back up stopped
-Since then it was giving me the error that cannot connect due to network error
-It had like 3GB missing and I deleted that (moved file into trash) so it was like I refreshed it to start over with brand new back up
-Now I have managed to start it backing up again (it's so slow however) but as Im typing this... its backing up but the internet connection is getting lost every 1 minute and i have to go to airport from the bar and chose the network again
-I will not stay up all night waiting for it to finish so I already know what is going to happen... when I wake up I will see (again) the message that connection was lost (since I will not be awake refreshing and selecting the network every minute)
I am so dissapointed/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png The fact that apparently i have stopped the fist back up (which was going well + fast) caused all these problems.
How do you actually reset/restore/format the TC to get it as brand new? I think that will solve the problem...
As I've told you guys you're my only hope. No apple store here
Thanks before hand and will look forward for the answer in the morning/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
    Cheers & Hpy NY

launch Airport Utility and under disk erase the TC hard drive(you seem to not have much value on it anyway) then if you have to change the name of the disk.
if you can connect TC to your computer thru ethernet connection and not wireless. 179 gigs is a lot of data to move. Ethernet should do you about 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs for the Time Machine backup.
Concerning the wireless problem I'd suspect some type of interference causing the disconnection. It can be just about anything for example, locating the TC too close to another router, vonage, computer, metal objects blocking or too near, TC location thru too many walls especially in N mode.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Macbook reboots in preparation stage when restoring with time capsule

I just replaced a hard drive from a disk crash. When I tried to restore from Time Capsule, I get to the stage where it's preparing - reading the size of the restoral categories - and the Macbook reboots before getting out of that stage. When I connect with Ethernet, it stays in that stage about 10 sec before rebooting. When I connect via wireless, it takes maybe 30 sec before reboot. When I connect to Time Capsule via a PC with Airport, it appears in good order (but suggests a new firmware update that seems just one release later). My Mac is about 14 months old. Could I have an OS incompatibility or a firmware issue (I haven't updated Time Capsule yet in fear of causing new issues)? Would bypassing this stage and going to Migration Utility be an optioin (I haven't tried this because it requires a lot of input on profiles such as DNS entries)?

I'm running my TC in 5ghz mode with my MBA. My original problem was the lack of signal strength coming from my AEBS caused the MBA to have a slow connection. There are a number of pipes in the wall that separates the two rooms where my MBA lives and the AEBS is.
So, I hard wired the TC to the AEBS and placed the TC in the room where my MBA lives most of the time. Now that the signal strength is really good I'm not having any issues.

  • How to manually connect wireless clients on Time Capsule with Airport 6.1?

I'm having trouble setting up wireless access for an older Dell laptop and a wireless HP 4500 printer on a new Time Capsule wireless network. All of the workarounds that I've found (adding a client manually so no WPA password is needed; generating an equivalent network password, etc) and even the Time Capsule setup manual itself reference options in AirPort Utility that are not available up on my Mac running Mountain Lion. I've figured out that the AirPort for Mountain Lion must be the root of the problem--and I can see that there are 5.6 vs. 6.0 discussions. Clearly the 6.0 version has a whole new interface and advanced options don't appear readily available. Can AirPort 5.6 run on Mountain Lion? Or is there a another way to get to these manual settings so I can get these devices to just work?
It's a real bummer to have no information from Apple to update the Time Capsule user manual and help files for what obviously is a common problem in setting up a mixed wireless network.
    Thanks for the help.

You are right of course.. it is about time Apple updated Time Capsule both hardware and instruction for usage on v6 utility. I wonder if TC is doomed in the future which apple sees is all cloud.
You can load 5.6 into mountain lion.. you cannot run it as the application installer will fail. But it is still easy to get it working.
    Download the 5.6 package.
    Download unpkg http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16357/unpkg
    Run unpkg
Open the dmg and drag the pkg file over to unpkg.. the 5.6 utility will be loaded to a directory on the desktop. Drag the file to your utility directory.. you only need the main file.
But it could be even easier to just download and install the airport utility for windows.. which will have bonjour for windows. Plug into the TC by ethernet.
Whichever way you do it.. change the TC name and wireless names to SMB compatible.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. no apostrophe.. that absolutely ghastly Apple invention.
Set a workgroup name in the file sharing. WORKGROUP generally
Set guest account to read and write.. at least initially as it is easier by far to get access.
I would also lock channels and if the computer uses 5ghz then give 5ghz wireless a different name.. The band swapping is only for Macs.
