I've downloaded the latest iTunes onto my mac and I can't install it, a message comes up saying "This software requires Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later" I don't know what to do considering I can't upload anything to my iPhone 5 without updating my iTunes, so my Mac tells me. Someone heeeelp please! It's driving me crazy.

  • HT2311 iTunes 11.1.1 crashed immediately. How do I revert to 11.1?

I'm running a 2.16 Intel Core Duo iMac with OSX 10.6.8. The older version of iTunes worked fine. The new one refused to open at all. I'm now running 11.0 and having to put up with constant nagging about my wife's iPad, which demands iTunes version 11.1, which is impossible to find. Grrr!

I have tried to restore the individual files of iTunes 11.4 from time machine with no success. On an apple support call they mentioned to do a full system restore from the time machine backup thru the OS X Utilities. Unfortunately for me I hadn't done a recent backup before accidentally updating to iTunes 12.0.1.
If I restore all the individual locations of the iTunes files I either get the spinning pinwheel of death or an error that a required component is not installed.
The answer from apple support was learn to like iTunes 12 otherwise we can't help you.
There are several ways to remove iTunes 12 through certain software or by stoping the background process related to iTunes..

  • HT2311 iTunes will not install, it says I need version 10.6.8? But there are no available updates.

I just bought new I5. It won't connect to Itunes( The iPhone “iPhone” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes.).
I try to download new Version of Itunes. It says that i need version Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later.
How can I update to a newer version when my computer tells me there are no available updates?? I am confused!!

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • HT2311 itunes will not update

when installing itunes 10.7 it keeps saying "This software requires Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later" but i'm running 10.5.8.. why won't it work?

Looking at the date of your MacBook (late 2008) makes me think this is a powerpc model.
If you want to run a newer (than 10.5.8) I think you'll need an intel processor mac.
    But to answer your question...
    "why won't it work?"
You're running an older operating system 10.5.8 is older than 10.6.8.
The newest version of iTunes won't run under the older mac os.
    Have you tried iTunes 10.6.3?
    you can find it here...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
The 10.6.3 itunes version will run on powerpc macs. I just used it to update my iPad to the newest ios version

  • HT2311 I just bought a new iPad Mini, and it won't sync to my iTunes.

So I went to the Apple store today to buy a new iPad Mini. I got it home, and tried to plug it into my computer to sync all of my information from my compter/old iPad. Come to find out, I need a newer version of iTunes to sync with the new iPad. Ok, so I go to update my version, and it says my "version is up to date". It's version 10.6.3!! So I try to download the latest version from the Apple website, and version 11.0.2 won't install onto my computer because I need version 10.6.8 or newer in order to install it!? ***?? Help me out!!

You need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM, and to install the 10.6.8 combo updater.

  • HT2311 After installing the latest version of ITunes, I can't get the store to launch

I'm trying to open the iTunes store after downloading the latest version of iTunes

Turning off the auto-renew does not cancel the service. To actually cancel, or turn off the service, you need to contact iTunes Store support. What the instructions are are getting is telling you to do is to cancel the auto-renew. You can accomplish that by, in iTunes:
    1. Pull down the Store menu and select "view account."
    2. Enter your credentials when prompted.
    3. In the middle of the page click the hightlight button:

    Hi jasjam007,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would suggest to open the Applications folder on your Mac.  In the Utilities folder you will see the Disk Utility application.  Follow the instructions below to Repair Permissions on your internal hard drive.
Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963?viewlocale=en_US
Restart your computer and see if that resolves your issue.  If not, you may need to drag the iTunes application to the trash and redownload it from our website:
Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

I need to know what it is I need to do to get this done so I can download the new itunes.  Because as it is I am unable to connect my iphone to my itunes account

You need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu to check your Mac's CPU and amount of installed RAM.
