  • The file "itunes library" could not be read

I just barely got a brand new mac and transferred my files from my old mac electronically via the prompt when initially starting up the computer through the wireless connection. I just tried to open iTunes for the first time and it won't open because the error message, "The file 'iTunes Library' cannot not be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." How do I find this file and remove it so that my iTunes will open?

    Welcome to the forums Nelchie
In your Home/Music folder you will see a folder 'iTunes'. Inside that is your iTunes Music folder (don't touch that - it's where all your music is.) You should also see there a iTunes Library file, that's the one you want to move out. You MAY have to add the contents of the iTunes Music folder when you relaunch iTunes.
If you want your old playlists, do this : locate a file called iTunes Music Library.xml on your old machine and copy it to the desktop of your new Mac. Then, in iTunes use the Import command to get that file into iTunes, and hopefully all your playlists will appear.

  • The file "iTunes Library" could not be opened because it was created ...

Hi, I get this error message when starting iTunes: The file "iTunes Library" could not be opened because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
I get this message after running a software update when iTunes announces a newer version is available.
    I have ver 7.4.2 (4)
Am I doing something wrong? or is there a fix?
    Thanks.

The update should've done this for you. But if, for whatever reason, you have an icon in your dock that's launching an old version of iTunes you should do a little investigating. Try this...
    - open your Applications folder and see if you have one version of iTunes in there (one icon).
    - highlight the icon and "GET INFO" to see what version it is.
    - if it's the updated version, replace the icon in your dock with the icon for the newest version
Tossing out or swapping icons in the dock doesn't do any harm. But having an old icon will most definitely launch the old version it was associated with. Like I mentioned though, the update should have done this automatically. I would think back about how you updated just to make sure something else didn't go awry. Losing an iTunes library can be a drag.

  • TS3212 the file iTunes itl cannot be read, and I cannot down loan iTunes, it won't let me, in Lion Osx

I had to replace my new mac mini with a newer one because the hardware was bad.  An even exchange, and the information was transferred.  I cannot open itunes, and get the message "the file itunes itl cannot be read" and I am advised to download a new version of itunes.  The software update won't download any new version because I am told that itunes is already up to date.  I tried downloading from the apple site, and can't get itunes to open anyway. Anybody can help?

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

    Hello
    1. I am running on Windows 8.1
    2. When running the installer file from https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/reflow I get the following choice
I click "OK" which doesn't do anything for me (CC is off).
I turn CC on and run the installer again. I get the following window that within few settings disappears:
Then - just for half a second it says "Launching Creative Cloud desktop" and then it brings CC to front, and that's all.
    RF still not there.
    3. I spoke ta support agent on the Adobe chat on Friday. He looked into my computer for an hour. Uninstalled After Effects (after failing to update it). For some reason all apps disappeared from the list. They then reappeared after he opened PS.
This morning After Effects is still showing up in my system and is operational.
    Weird.
    4. At the end the agent suggested maybe Firewall is the problem here. Trying that out now.

  • The file itune library can not be read because it's created by a newer version

The file "itunes library.itl" can not be read because it was created by a newer version

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It sounds to me as though you have installed an earlier version of iTunes than the version you used to create your current library.

I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location.  I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias.  When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present".  This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers.  If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there.  Am I forgetting to turn something on or off?  Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

So now that's two of us.  Hopefully, someone has an answer.

  • Following the most recent IOS IPhone update our Iphone calendars, contacts and messages have all merged. This problem has never happened before. We all use the same Itunes account as a family and one AppleID. Does anyone know the cause of this problem?

We have 4 Iphones. As a family we have happily shared the same ITunes account and one AppleID. After the most recent iPhone IOS update all our contacts and calendars have merged and we randomly receive some messages that one of us has sent to another contact.
    This is causing chaos.
    Can anyone help me with:
    1. Has anyone experienced a similar problem recently?
    2. The records to the individual phones have not been saved been saved separately. After this merging of all the data into one composite record, is there anyway to reverse the change and restore the phones to just their individual records?
    3. I guess that the cause may be the common AppleID. I have tried to create my own AppleID but my personal email address is already linked to the existing AppleID so I am blocked from setting up a separate AppleID in my own name. Does anyone know how I can get around this block?
    4. Would it be better to create a separate Apple ICloud address for each of us as well? How do I do this?
    Many thanks in anticipation,
    Peter

This is exactly what happens when sharing a single Apple ID for iCloud and iMessage.  Why would you expect any different?

  • Itunes error while updating to 8,02, now i can't install the update

so i ran the update through itunes for the 8.02 update. it downloaded the update and while it tried to install it, it says
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"
So i point it to the correct folder, and i get this error message
the file itunes.msi is not a valid installation package for the product itunes. try to find the installation pacakge "itunes.msi" in a folder form which you can install Itunes
So i ran it the update THREE TIMES and each time i get that same error. For some reason it thinks the itunes.msi is not complete, but according to the updater program, it finished downloading. (FYI its 37,101,056 bytes)
Soooo i downlaoded a new version of itunes from the apple website and again i'm getting the same error messages.
So i tried uninstalling it from the control panel, and again,

It sounds as though you need the Microsoft Installer clean up utility..
    Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • "The file destination provided is not valid. Enter a valid location."

I'm running Acrobat 9, with all updates installed, on Win XP.
I have used shared review before, and it worked. I click Comments, Send for Shared Review.
When I try to initiate a shared review, I browse to select my pdf, click on the filename, and I immediately get this error message: The file destination provided is not valid. Enter a valid location.
I have tried accessing a file on a shared network behind my company's firewall, on my local hard drive, and my desktop. All three locations generate the exact same error.
I know the "source" file and the "shared" file have to be in two separate locations. The error message is occuring BEFORE I can specify anything else.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I can share a document on Acrobat.com (I just verified this), but I can't send one for shared review. Same error message as before. Curiouser and curiouser!

Has the version of Acrobat that you're using been packaged by your IT department? If so, can you find out if they perhaps disabled access to Acrobat.com. Sometimes in doing this, shared reviews are inadvertently disabled.

While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl"  cannot be read  because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop.  When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  I have no idea what this means or what to do about it.  I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up.  I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes.  What should I do to fix this?

What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future.
