HT2376 QuickTime Pro Key: How do I retrieve a lost key purchased more than 18 months ago?

The stated method is to look up the order on the Apple Online Store, but they do not display orders more than 18 months old. How do I retrieve my key if it is older than that?

If you didn't write the info down on a piece of paper (like I did) or save the original email there is no way to recover your registration info.

  • HT2376 How do you recover a Quicktime registration key that was purchased more than 18 months ago?

I would like to reinstall Quicktime Pro on my new computer but I can't seem to find my old registration code.  I don't want to have to buy it again but the "view order history" found on the "your account" page in apple only goes back 18 months.  Is there anything I can do?

If you no longer have the email with the key, then you will have to purchase a new key. Apple stopped keeping records of orders more than 18 months old some time back.

  • Can I use a single QuickTime Pro key on more than one computer?

I would like to use QuickTime Pro at both home (Windows Vista) and at work (Windows XP). Can I do this using a single purchased key, or do I need to buy two separate keys, one for each machine?
It's a rather stupid question, but I can't find an straightforward statement one way or the other in the FAQs. Perhaps the answer's too obvious!
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Thanks! I thought this would probably be the case, but since iTunes allows me to authorise more than one machine, I thought that it was just possible that QuickTime might do the same. Back to the drawing board ...

  • How do I re-download the mpeg 2 playback component that was purchased more than 18 months ago?

I wanted to check to see if I could re-download the installer for the QT MPEG 2 Playback Component, which I had purchased several years ago, but have since lost since I wiped my hard drive and upgraded my system to Leopard.  I have a copy of the app from the backup I made of my old system, but just copying it over to the new Applications folder doesn't seem to do anything.
I went to check on my order history at the Apple Store to see if there was any indication I could re-download the installer.  I logged into one of my Apple Store accounts (I have two, accidentally), but it had no order history for the past 18 months, and I couldn't look further back.  I purchased the MPEG 2 decoder several years ago.
Not only that, but I could NOT logout in order to log in to my other account.  If there's a logout button anywhere on any of the pages in my account I checked, it was very well hidden.  WHERE IS THE FRIKKIN' LOGOUT BUTTON!!!???
I managed to log into my other account by switching to Firefox, but of course, it didn't have any purchase history past 18 months back.
How can I re-download the installer?  I another thread, I saw someone mention re-downloading the decoder from the "Downloadable Applications Page in your account," but can't find anything like that in either of my accounts.
    Thanks

I am suspecting Apple have made a change since I last had to do this and have caused a FUBAR. If you read http://store.apple.com/uk/help/downloads?mco=MTM3NDgzNTM we are all doing it the right way but the option is not being listed when it should.
As I read the above document and as I recall from the past, we should be seeing a Software download option on the main account page of the Apple webstore once you have logged in and this option should automatically be listed if your account has been previously used to purchase downloadable software.
I suspect either they have incorrectly cleared older than 18month order data from accounts rather than merely not giving an option to list older orders, or that as part of the move to the App Store for downloads they have change the process and as a result messed things up.
I would suggest the following to you all.
If possible find your email confirmation of the original order to use as evidence
Ring the Apple Store phone line
It is possible the Apple Store person will be able to see older orders than the website is allowing you to see and they will be able to trace your original order
They may choose to solve the problem by giving you a credit for a new purchase

  • HT2376 This article says you can retrieve your key when in fact you can't if you purchased longer than 18 months ago

Apple Support told me that I had to repurchase my software keys for QuickTime Pro because the order history no longer gos back farther than 18 months.
Thanks, Apple. After leaving the software keys in my order history for literally YEARS, for removing them without warning and telling me I'm out of luck - in spite of what the Support article says.
If you'd actually TOLD ME you'd be taking down the information, I would've taken steps to record the keys elsewhere, BUT YOU DIDN'T, and if I need QT Pro I'm out $40 for s second time.
I've been an Apple customer for 20+ years, and this is a big disappointment.

Apple did tell you to save the registration key in the purchase confirmation email that was sent to you
Using software without a copy of the reg key would be a disappointment for anyone.

  • How do I get access to purchases older than 18 months ago?

    Quicktime 7 Pro

You don't unfortunately.  Apple recently changed the TOS with regards to how long they retain users purchase data.
Did you take the Mavericks update and the Pro Key went missing at that time or had it been gone a long time before that?
If you had it up until you updated the OS, there's a chance  the preference file with your serial is still hiding on your system. Go into the Library/Preferences folder and look for the com.apple.QuickTime.plist file.
It should have the serial from your QT Pro Key - as long as you didn't reformat when you upgraded, it should still be there.

  • How does one retrieve a lost music purchased list?

It seems that I've lost my music purchased list and I'm wondering if there's anyway of retrieving it through Apple?

Sorry, but I'm not clear on what you're asking. Do you mean that the Purchased playlist is gone? If that's what you mean, just create a new Smart Playlist with Kind = Protected AAC audio file. That will recollect all your purchased music.
If that's not what you meant, please post back and explain your difficulty further.
    Regards.

  • How can I get a rufund for a product that was purchased more than 90 days ago?

I purchased a few apps almost three years ago and I want to find out if I can still refund them.

    You can always try...
Refunds from the App Store or iTunes Store
That said, I don't think it's really fair for you to be able to use the app for three full years and then not have to pay. But maybe that's just me.

  • HT2376 How do i retrieve a lost key code for Pro if it is older than 18 months ? which is the longest you can look at on the orders history page.

I Upgraded to quicktime pro years ago on my pc , then when i got a mac i purchased another copy for mac. I ve now gone back to pc and want to retrieve my old key code. The check your order history only goes back 18 months and i think i got mine about 4 years ago . Any advice ? or do i need to buy another copy . Cheers

Regardless of what any of us think, the fact is that Apple no longer provides lookup of orders older than 18 months. Why they chose this none of us here can say, but that's what they have decided. So it's no longer possible to look up a QuickTime key purchased more than 18 months ago. If the user failed to keep a copy of the email or otherwise record the key, as Apple themselves advise, then a new QT Pro key will be required.
    Regards.

I already have a quicktime pro key, had to reload quicktime how do i insert the key i have without having to buy the program again

QuickTime Player -> Edit menu -> Preferences -> Register
Enter in the user name and key as sent to you by Apple.
For any future questions about QuickTime, those will usually get the quickest response if posted in the QuickTime forum.

  • I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

  • Quicktime Pro Key pooched on 7.6.4 install.

Here is the latest on an issue I've seen documented here. Upon installing 7.6.4 (in the middle of a laboratory session!) Quicktime ceased functioning "normally." Upon launch of Quicktime or any ".mov," the player window will appear for a fraction of a second and then close to the Windows Task Bar never to be accessible again. The original problem, in my case, was preceded by a test of converting mp4 video to 3pg utilizing Quicktime Pro. All the source material involved is my own by copyright. All the software on my laptop licensed.
So I uninstalled Quicktime 7.6.4 and reinstalled. There had been some collateral issues as I also use Quicktime plug in processes in Sony Vegas Pro Software. After a scandisk, (fixdisk), defrag etc. Quicktime 7.6.4 did start properly. So I opened the window to enter my Quicktime Pro Key and....
A Quicktime window appears for a fraction of a second then closes to the Window's Task Bar never to be accessible again. It appears that Quicktime users (for Windows) are experiencing some problems with this release but I'm really wondering how the update would pooch the Pro Key. I feel that it is required to wait for another release before I would purchase another Quicktime Pro Key. Which I actually do require professionally.

The update to QT 7.6.4 would have no effect on the pro key it doesn't have to be re-entered after the update. Where you removed and re-installed QT could be the reason, my guess is something to do with administrator accounts, like which one originally installed QT?
    Is, com.apple.QuickTime plist on the computer? C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\com.apple.QuickTime plist
If com.apple.QuickTime plist is on the computer, open it. You may need Note Pad to open it. If the pro key is not showing in there then QT pro is not registered in the QT control panel
