Hello! I have entered a DVD into my MacBook Pro and chose region 1, but it's playing in Spanish. How can I change the language to English? Thanks!

  • My macbook pro dvd drive opens all disks as blank, can I fix it?

My macbook pro dvd drive opens all disks as blank. I have no access to a near by apple store as I live in remote NSW. I purchased the macbook when I lived in Sydney and the old owner had just had a fresh copy of the OS loaded. I've read a discussion of a similar nature and the only comment was take it back, that is easier said than done. Is there a fix I can do from home?

If you didn't buy this from the store, the first thing you need to do is boot from the install DVD, erase the disk drive (perhaps even zeroing it) and install a fresh copy of the OS. You do not want to inherit any changes the previous owner may have made to the system software (or worse).

I am talking about putting in any CD that is known to have content and it loads the CD and says its blank with nothing on it
    Who says?
    Anyway, try

  • Can't install Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro - DVD won't mount

I am unable to install Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro as the DVD won't mount.  This is an early 2008 vintage MacBook Pro, intel core duo...
I'm using a OS X Snow Leopard install DVD (family licensed).  This DVD has been used to install 3 other Macs in my house without a problem (about a year ago), but cannot be used to upgrade my MBP.  Actually, this disk mounted on the MBP exactly once - inserted with system up, the disk mounted.  Upon running the installed (a year ago), the computer restarted but hung in boot.  After getting the disk ejected and the computer restarted, the disk would never mount again.  I've defered upgrade for a year but at this point need to upgrade my MBP at least to Snow Leopard and possibly Lion.
The problem doesn't seem to be with the DVD, since it continues to mount fine in other computers, and in fact a borrowed Snow Leopard DVD also will not mount on the MBP.
BUT ... the problem also does not seem to be with the optical drive in my computer, as it can read & mount the install/restore disks that came with the computer as well as other CDs and DVD ROMs.  Only the Snow Leopard install DVDs fail to mount.
I've also tried mounting the 10.6 install DVD on my Mac Pro desktop, making it available over the network (ethernet) with DVD/CD sharing.  I can mount the remote disk from my MBP that way, but when I launch the installer, the application launches (its own menus are displayed, I can quit from menu, for example) but does nothing -- no windows open, nothing.
I've also tried "Remote Install" (again with the DVD made available with the Remote Install MacOS X application on my desktop), but when I boot the MBP with option held down, the remote disk is not available as a startup disk.
Zapping the PRAM did not help.
Am off to the store to get an optical drive cleaning kit and a blank DVD big enough to burn a new disk image, but would appreciate any further ideas at this point....

Solution that worked: Copy the Install DVD to a USB flash drive and boot from that.

  • I can't get Macbook Pro DVD drive to read my Windows 7 upgrade disk.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8.  I have been trying to upgrade the OS in my VMWare Virtual Machine from XP to Windows 7.  However, when I insert the upgrade disk, it just spins for a few minutes and then tells me the disk is a blank disk.  I  tried it with the drive tied to the VM XP OS, but that did not work and got the same result.  I then tried the disk in a PC I have and it seems to work fine there.  Also, I have tried other disks in my Mac drive (e.g. DVD movies) and they seem to work as well.  I am not quite sure where the problem is.  Any ideas?

  • Windows 7 RC installation on MacBook Pro: 'DVD drive device driver missing'

I'm trying to install the Windows 7 RC on my unibody MacBook Pro (purchased november 2008). I create the partition in Boot Camp, insert the install DVD, and restart the system. Then the Windows setup starts as it's supposed to (Windows is loading files). The install program launches fine, and I get to choose language settings.
And now it all fails. After I've chosen language settings, I get the message: "A required CD(DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
    Screenshot of the message: http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00102yyh.jpg
I'm kinda baffled by this message. Obviously the drive can be use by the install program, but it still complains of a missing driver. I had no trouble installing the Windows 7 beta earlier this year.
I've done some googling, and it appears to be problem experienced by some others. Someone had the issue on an Asus machine (I think), and the solution was to download the driver and out it on a USB stick. But I can't seem to find the driver for the MBP DVD drive anywhere.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

After countless days trying to solve this problem, I feel I can now add to the few solutions presented on the various forums of the internet. I'll post here because 1: i'm a mac user for everyday life although like most have as many pc's as well. 2: I already have a login for these forums!
okay so i tried everything from re-burns to usb install (which I could not complete because removable drives are not recognized by xp and I don't have a vista system). The problem for me ended up being because the DVD drive was plugged into the primary master ide channel. My hard drive for the unit i was installing windows on is sata and was configured as such (not bridged into IDE channel by bios). So in a nutshell it seems like the hard drive and the DVD drive are nit picky in regards to the IDE configuration of the drives themselves. This won't help for virtualization on a mac pro I realize but nonetheless is food for thought hopefully for all the people searching for " windows 7 install cd/dvd device driver missing " in their search engine!

  • MacBook Pro DVD drive issues

Hi there, recently I got a something strange problem with the DVD drive in my MacBook Pro 15" (2,2Ghz Intel core Duo, 10.5.8). Beginning with the error 0x80020042 first I tried cleaning the laser lens which worked for a few times, I also had errors like "... illegal access..", or the drive just could not read from disks, or the system does not recognize a blank disk was inserted. Using Toast to burn files to CDs it turns red indicating that there is not enough space on the disk even if the files are small, only a few kilobytes or megabytes large. Using the Mac OS I get the same message.
I'd appreciate your help and suggestions.
    Thanks.

maybe its hardware issue if you contact apple store or apple support they could help you

  • Macbook pro dvd drive spits out fresh blank dvd

I have a macbook pro with Lion installed
I am trying to write a DVD, but everytime i put a blank DVD it spits it out after 15 seconds or so, doesn't even recognizes as a blank dvd.
This is the details of my dvd drive
    MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868:
      Firmware Revision:          KB19
      Interconnect:          ATAPI
Burn Support:          Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
      Cache:          2048 KB
      Reads DVD:          Yes
      CD-Write:          -R, -RW
      DVD-Write:          -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
      Write Strategies:          CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media:          To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh

A fine lense cloth (for cleaning eye glasses) wrapped around a flat piece of credit card shaped plastic gently inserted and brushed once to the left side seemed to capture plenty of dust from my late 2008 MacBook Pro's Superdrive. Now DVDs work again and stay in the drive.
Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

  • Vista has no drivers for MacBook Pro DVD drive

When I boot into Vista, everything works well enough but I can't use the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro. Under the device manager it's listed as not having drivers and when you tell it to find them on the internet, it comes up empty handed.
Anyone know where I can find drivers for this drive? It's a Matsushita UJ-857D.

I've been having the same problem. THere was a discussion with a link that no longer exists.

  • Using my MacBook Pro DVD drive to play movies on my HD TV

I just bought an HD tv and the Apple TV.  I have a MacBook Pro OS-X and was told that I could use its DVD drive to view DVD's on my HD  TV via the Apple TV.  I haven't found a way to do this.  Is it doable?  I have been able to view photos from iPhoto and play music from iTunes on the tv via the Apple tv.  I just don't see any options for the DVD drive.

In order to do that you need to use mirroring, which requires a recent Mac (2011 or later) running Mountain Lion. If using older hardware or OS you can use a 3rd party option like Airparrot. The native DVD player is blocked from mirroring so you would need to use something like VLC

  • Macbook Pro DVD Regions

I would like to know why it seems I have to pay more money to watch a DVD i've already paid for, purely because I am limited to the amount of times I can switch the Region on the basic DVD player. Funnily I can't just switch it because I have DVDs from Region 1+2 so either way I will not be able to view some of my collection. I tried to bypass the problem via VLC player, which due to the updated Matsushita drive also refuses to act as a multiregional DVD player. So apparently the only other options I have is to use my old laptop which should really be Jurassic in comparison, To change the drive I already have on my Macbook Pro which apparently Apple give a lot of grief over in store... Or to buy an external DVD drive. And for what? To play a DVD that I paid for. The only reasons I imagine the DVD player is set this way is to either, prevent piracy... Which it won't, because pirated DVDs are usually produced with 0 Region, frankly they don't feel the need to limit viewing options, alternatively it's because film companies give Apple grief about the fact that people can buy a film from abroad before it's released in their own country, which despite paying fairly for it, they are against. I guess i'd like to hear if you have any way to bypass this problem that I haven't already tried, or a more valid reason as why I should pay more money to watch something obtained legally and free from piracy.

Try starting up the computer and hold down cmd + alt(option) + P + R, until you hear the Apple chime go off twice. Then try changing the region again.
This resets the PRAM on your computer, ie. parameter ram.   Although http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1242 does not mention anything regarding optical drives directly, PRAM does store temporary data that the computer uses for quick access.  Although the region code is not permanently stored in the PRAM and is written into the firmware, the change of the region code does run through the PRAM.
Since it is not a detrimental step to your computer, try this, and see if it helps.

  • MacBook Pro DVD/CD not engaging

My 15 inch MacBook Pro will not play DVD's or CD.   There are no errors - the discs are not engaging and just ejecting. I have tried several store bought DVDs and CD's.  My Apple Care just expired earlier this month.  Thanks for any advice!

Oh - that's bad. It could be that your SuperDrive is failing. If you've an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you, you should take it in and have them take a look at it. It may be a simple mechanical problem that they can fix, or the drive may be dead or dying. I don't know what Apple's charging these days to replace a SuperDrive but you can often get an equivalent drive off the Internet and install it yourself. OWC has a number of solutions.

  • My MacBook Pro DVD drive keeps spinning and looking for a disc when there isn't one.

My MacBook Pro disc drive keeps spinning and looking for a disc when there isn't one in there. The DVD application is closed and as far as I can tell, the eject button is not stuck. I've restarted, but the problem persists. Please help!

  • MacBook Pro DVD Region Settings...

Hi I have a new MacBook Pro and use the DVD drive quite frequently with different regions.
Is there a way to make it so you can have all regions working at once with no limitations? It is so frustrating that there is only 5 times you can change it. I have had an older Mac up until recently when it died and I could watch any DVD on it as my families laptops are. Mine however won't work. Any advice on how to go about doing this would be FANTASTIC!!

  • MacBook Pro DVD Drive Bitsettings/Booktype

I have a MacBook Pro with a 'MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D' DVD Drive and I am wanting to make changes to the Booktype when I burn a DVD. I have not been able to find a solution but below is a list of what I have tried:
    * Emulated Windows XP and tried making chages with IMGBURN.
    * Emulated IMGBURN under MacOSX using CrossOver Mac.
    * Tried looking for firmware updates.
Please help me solve this issue or put me out of my misery so if required I will go buy a new Pioneer 112D.
    Many thanks in advance.
