I want to download java for my 10.5.8.

I have now manually upgraded to Firefox 3.6.28 since the normal update did not work for me - perhaps because I recently returned from TenFourFox which shares the same preferences. The Java clock on http://links.zero.eu.org/time/ still works for me.

At no time has my Firefox said the same as John's ie:

Can anybody explain the meaning of the last sentence in relation to PPC? Would 1.4.2 normally be replaced by 1.5.0 or would they normally both be active?
I saw elsewhere that when Apple disable some Java items they provide a means to re-enable them although there is a timer which automatically disables after a period of non-use.

Error when downloading Java for OS X 2012-003

Hey guys just wondering if you would be able to help me. I have had this issue for the last week and cant seem to find anything to sort it out.
I am unable to download Java for OS X 2012-003 version 1.0 66.8MB
At the end of the installation process (when is states that it is moving items into place) and error message appears. It says
" The update Java for OS X 2012-003 cant be installed. An unexpected error occured"
The same message appeared when trying to download Java for OS X 2012-002. I have not had any trouble dowloading other sofware updates (I tunes, i photo etc)
I have tried downloading the updates from the Apple webiste but i get an error stating that an unexpected error occured and they ask if i would like to send apple a report. To which i have said yes.
Any suggestions on how to rectafy this problem as i am aware that this update is to help protect against malware etc.

Shut down. Then reboot holding down the command-r keys into the Lion Recovery disk. Select Disk Utility and run Repair Disk.

Restart your Mac before trying to download the file.
Do you have anti virus software installed or a program like LIttle Snitch?
If you are using Safari to download files, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, back to the menu bar, click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
If you still can't download the Java file, go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac. Try downloading that file again.
If it still won't download without that dialog, go to ~/Library/Safari. Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Try again.

Nope. The iPad (and iPhone and iPod touch) cannot execute Java applets. It's a limitation in iOS from the beginning (just like lack of Flash). You will either need to use a desktop computer or access a desktop computer via RDP or VNC to access that page on iPad.mIn short: there is no native way to use a Java applet on iOS.

I think I understand the problem, but am not sure of the solution. What you want is Java not JavaScript which is a totally different thing.
Lion is supposed to automatically offer to install Java for you if you try to run a Java applet on your Mac, but you don't have such a thing, yet.
Apple has posted Java for OS X Lion Update 1 here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421, but I don't know whether or not you need to already have Java installed or if this is a complete installation. Just remember to turn Java off in your browser when you aren't using it to print your coupons. Downloading java for linux

I have red hat linux v7.0. I want to download jdk1.3 for linux. There are 2 downloads for it.
1.RedHat RPM shell script
2.GNUZIP Tar shell script

Yes, you can use the tar.gz shellscript, no problem. It's maybe even easier than the rpm.
After making the package runnable (the same with the RPM, if that was your problem: e.g. chmod 750 j2se-{version}.tar.gz.sh) and run it
(./j2se-{version}.tar.gz,sh), where you will be asked to agree to the SUN Java licence, the shell-script will create a .tar.gz in the directory. Then simply uncompress it (gunzip filename.tar.gz) and unpack it (tar xf filename.tar, you can also make uncompression and unpacking in one way, see man tar). You can unpack it directly to the right dir, or somewhere else, or in the current dir and then move it where you want it. Adding the PATH, if preffered, and it should work.
