HT2473 missing image files

what is the best way to reconcile the iphoto, aperture, and lightroom catalogues, to ensure that no files have been lost? my macbook pro (2008) quit on me recently and i think that i am missing image files now. also i should say that i am backing up my iphone to the machine and not the cloud.

i should also say that i am now using a 27 inch imac (2011)

  • IWeb site update problem-app missing images/files, but site is ok

I created and uploaded a web site to my .mac (yeah, MobileMe) and it displays just fine. I have visited it from a couple of different comps. The problem is that I want to add/update files/pages, but when I open iWeb, several of the images/audio files do not display: shows a x-through and a centered question mark. They are in the sites idisk folder and in the laptop's copy of the files. When I try to replace the missing images/files by dragging onto the iWeb drafting page the following message appears: "the file can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it contains no content or was corrupted."
I'm afraid to make any updates for fear of losing what is already published.
Extra info: have family pack and am switching between .mac accounts because iWeb published to the iDisk corresponding to the account/sub-account you are logged into (BIG pain in the ***! It should have a password protected account toggle like Panther used). I have double-checked that the files for this site are only in the one iDisk account (am redirecting my masked domain url to the .mac iDisk server-works great.
    Any ideas?

The upgrade from '06 to '08 which changed the domain.sites to a domain.sites2 caused more confusion, disasters and lost web sites than the bug ridden introduction of '09.
I ended up rebuilding all my sites from new, blank domain files in '08 and the conversion to '09 went OK apart from '09's nasty habit of changing media file links.
Fortunately, I have very little QuickTime content and don't use the iWeb Photos, Albums Blog or Podcast templates.
Most iWeb built sites look pretty awful when users stick to the default page width. I start from a Blank, Black or white page and trash everything on it.
I use the "standard" 980 px page width and most, if not all, of the iWeb themes do not adapt to this.
This is why I constantly ask the question. "Do the iWeb developers actually build any websites with the application?".
Perhaps if they did, we would get more bug free releases and some of the features that "real life" users are requesting.

  • Unable to open photos (missing image file)

When trying to double click on a photo in iphoto, I get a black triangle w/ exclamation point inside.  I can view the photo as a thumbnail, just can't open it.  I downloanded and installed iphoto library manager and tried rebuilding library.  After it was complete, I got the following error message...
"An error occurred (1602).  The photo could not be transferred (The image file is missing from /user/....../desktop/iphoto/library/Masters)".  Of about 6000 photos, this error occurred for 4,000.  The rest work just fine.  I have recently run all the recommended updates for the computer.  Please advise.

When using iPLM  to rebuild the library did you have the checkbox checked to Scavanged orphaned photos checked?
If the masters are not there then your only recourse is to restore a backup copy of the library made at a time before this problem occurred.

  • Missing image files

One project on my Aperture is listed as having 74 image files in it. However, when I open this project it is empty. The (74) indicator following the name is still there. Has anyone encountered this issue? I haven't tried the "rebuild library" solution but perhaps this might work.

I am not an expert but I once had this same problem. I found that for that project it was marked to show only "X" pictures. I changed it to "Show All" and all appeared. I did not preset the "X" so I'm not sure why it occurred but that was my solution. Good luck.

  • Missing image file(s)

I've been working on a large Keynote presentation, some 80 slides and around 200 - 250 images. Trying to open the file today I got the message "some errors occurred", and I found to my dismay that most the images are gone. If I open the package content I can see some 30 images, and they show up in the presentation. The rest are gone.
Anyone with similar experience? (And my back-up program backed up the corrupted file/package so that does not help either....)

What is the error msg? Can you see your original image files in LR library?
Are you using LR's web module? You have exported web-res JPGs to *some* drive/folder-path, is this correct? If so, have you checked the path on your web gallery upload source drive/directory-path (in the web module)?
In other words, we need more info in order to help you... Most likely you just need to set the correct drive letter in the web gallery template's upload settings for your source directory (drive) - AFAIK.

  • What's the fix for "missing (image) files" that won't save?

I keep re-entering some images on my iWeb site & save them, only to find them "missing"????
    Help!   Thanks.
    Sunny

How are you adding the images to iWeb - dragging them onto the page or onto a Photo template?
Where are they missing from - the published website? If so, try publishing to a local folder...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and launch the site in the browser by double clicking the index.html file. Are the images still missing?

  • Missing image files in Lightroom 5.7

I can see a set of images and the metadata shows but the files are not available for external editing or printing.  I can edit them within in LR, but not print them.
This is a set of images from one day.  Images taken on days either side of it are fine.  Nothing occurred in the upload that indicated a problem.
How do I access these files.  They involve a model and travel expenses.  I'd really like to be able to work with them.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think you are correct and I've followed the instructions in the link.  Thank you for the information.
Unfortunately, it appears that I only have the final two shots of the session with both original and smart preview.  The rest are not on the hard drive.  How disconcerting and frustrating as I had no indication of any problem during the upload.
I did not move the files so I really don't know how this happened.  A couple of days later I did a much larger shoot with the same camera, same card, etc. and everything is fine.
I do thank you for the time you've taken with this.  It is much appreciated, even though I am unhappy with the result.

  • Since applying Feb 2013 Sharepoint 2010 CUs - Critical event log entries for Blob cache and missing images

    Hi,
Since applying the February 2013 SharePoint 2010 updates, we are getting lots of entries in our event logs along the following:
    Content Management     Publishing Cache
    5538     Critical
An error occurred in the blob cache.  The exception message was 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)’
In pretty much all of these cases the image/ file in question that is reported in the ULS logs as missing is not actually in the collaboration site, master page / html etc so the fix needs to go back to the site owner to make the correction to avoid
the 404 (if they make it!). This has only started happening, I believe since feb 2013 sp2010 cumulative updates updates
I didn’t see this mentioned as a change / in the Fix list of the February updates. i.e. it flags up a critical error in our event logs. So with a lot of sites and a lot of missing images your event log can quickly fill up.
Obviously you can suppress them in the monitoring -> web content management ->publishing cache = none & none which is not ideal.
So my question is... are others seeing this and was a change made by Microsoft to flag a 404 missing image / file up a critical error in event log when blob cache is enabled?
If i log this with MS they will just say, you need to fix it up the missing files in the site but would be nice to know this had changed prior! I also deleted and recreated the blob cache and this made no diffference
    thanks
    Brad

I'm facing the same error on our SharePoint 2013 farm. We are on Aug 2013 CU and if the Dec CU (which is supposed to be the latest) doesn't solve it then what else could be done.
Some users started getting the message "Server is busy now try again later" with a corelation id. I looked up ULS with that corelation id and found these two errors in addition to hundreds of "Micro Trace Tags (none)" and "forced
    due to logging gap":
"GetFileFromUrl: FileNotFoundException when attempting get file Url /favicon.ico The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Error in blob cache. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Unable to cache URL /FAVICON.ICO.  File was not found"
Looks like this is a bug and MS hasn't fixed it in Dec CU..

  • Interface Builder refuses to see "@2x" image files

I'm making some apps with support for all three major iOS platforms: iPhone&Co, iPhone4 and iPad. This support means, naturally, having larger-resolution images for the latter two platforms. Currently I'm making the apps universal, so the same app will run in all of them.
Since most of the double-resolution images of the iPhone4 version of the app can be used as-is in the iPad version (only things like background images have to be made separately for all three types of platform due to differing screen resolutions; the rest can be done with simply laying out the elements appropriately in the iPad as compared to the iPhone4, using the same element images for both), it would be a huge waste of space to make separate images for the iPhone4 and the iPad, when these images would be completely identical. Thus it only makes sense to reuse the same "@2x" images of the iPhone4 on the iPad version of the app.
This worked nicely for a while. However, at some point quite suddenly (I don't really know what happened), Interface Builder started to completely refuse to see any image files with a "@2x" in their name. It won't show them on the drop-down menu where you select an image (eg. for an UIImageView or UIButton), and if you write it manually, it will refuse to show it (only showing the question mark image symbolizing a missing image file). The image will show ok when running the app, but IB simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of such images. If I rename the image such that I remove the "@2x", then IB will accept it, but not if it has those characters.
As said, IB did see the "@2x" images at some point, but for some reason now it doesn't. (This is a bit of a mystery because I don't remember this happening after any kind of SDK upgrade or anything.)
This tells me that this is either 1) a bug in IB, or 2) intentional behavior, and the "@2x" images should not be "abused" in this way to create an iPad version of the app properly.
If hypothesis 2 is correct, then what is the proper way of using the same images in both the iPhone4 and iPad versions of the app? Duplicating the image files would be an enormous waste of space (the apps are quite graphics-heavy).
One "kludge" that comes to mind would be to create soft links for the images so that the iPad versions of the image files would just be soft links to the @2x iPhone4 images. However, I don't know if the bundling mechanism of the iPhone SDK supports soft links, or if it will simply make copies of the images (in which case each such image will end up being stored twice in the bundle).

I guess I don't understand why you want a solution when you've found one already.
Just use ".2x" or "-2x" or whatever.
Report the bug, use your workaround and move on.

  • Help (LR3)! Catalog missing all image files

    In LR3 (using Windows 7):
Suddenly, none of my image files are linked to the catalog; 14,000+ of them. The catalog is on an external hard drive, backed up on my internal hard drive. The catalog seems intact. The most recent image files are on my internal hard drive, but most are on an external hard drive. All drives are connected and I can navigate to any file that I want. But the catalog can't find the files, even though nothing has moved. When I click 'find missing files,' 14,000+ question-marked previews appear. None are linked to the image files.
Additionally, when I 'locate' a group of missing files on the proper drive, through the Library module, then suddenly those images vanish from the previews and the number of images in the catalog (the number in parentheses) is diminished by that number. I'm at a complete loss.
Background: I hadn't used LR for a few days. I recently installed Google Earth and apparently along with it a number of other applications that I didn't want. So I went to my Administrator tools and 'restored' my system to a previous state, from just three days ago. I've 'restored' before with no ill effects. It was after that, when I opened LR, the catalog/image disconnect was apparent. I don't know if that disconnect existed prior to my 'Restore' or if it might have been triggered by it.
    Any ideas?

It turns out that -- somehow -- the letter assigned to the external hard drive got changed. Once I changed it back (as Administrator), all was well with the world again. (Just needed to do a little extra housekeeping.)
Aside: How the heck does something like that happen, that a drive changes letters?

  • Albums missing images yet .apalbum files contain their references

I have a project with about 4,000 color transparency scans. I organized the slides into about 150 albums in December 2006. I recently discovered that sometime between then and now (several Aperture version upgrades) about 1/3 of the albums (seemingly a random assortment) contain no images. However the images still exist in the parent project.
If I look in the .apalbum files of the empty albums I see an array of versionUuids which correspond to the missing images. If I search for those versionUuids in the appropriate .apimportgroup directory I can find the name of the image files. Using a manual search and rescue I can reconstruct the albums.
I'm looking for a way to get Aperture to reconstruct the albums itself - saving the time it will take for me to do it manually. I've tried rebuilding the library by launching Aperture and holding down CMD-OPT. I've also tried the more severe method of removing the Aperture.aplib directory and ApertureData.xml file and then rebuilding the libraries. Neither restored the albums.
Are there any other tricks that might get Aperture to reconstruct the albums?
    Thanks

I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
    1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
    2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
    3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Illustrator CC opens file showing missing embedded images. Illustrator 5.1 opens same file fine with no missing images.

How do I get CC to open these files correctly? Is the client saving them incorrectly?
My work around has now become a pain & I need to know why Illustrator CC tells me most/all embedded images are missing in files received by clients.
Illustrator 5.1 opens the files ok & gives me no errors. It does a few funky things because ti says the file was produced with a new version. The file previews fine in the Finder window & shows all images. The issue with opening them in 5.1 is it wants to open 1 page at a time like the AI file is a PDF.
Why is CC failing to recognize the embedded images? Are the images not embedded correctly by the client? Is 5.1 pulling from some lower res version of the images? Files export from 5.1 as hires. Stumped.
Oh my gosh why arent they just using InDesign. : (

Please get informed about how Illustrator saves files and what exactly is in a file and how it is re-opened.
    See: http://rwillustrator.blogspot.de/2006/11/whats-in-file.html
When in Illustrator CS5, Illustrator actually opens the PDF part of the file that contains all the images. Always.
When in Illustrator CC, Illustrator accesses the AI part of the file, which doesn't necessarily contain the images.

  • I cannot install iTunes 10.5. Get error message: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application support\webkit.resources\inspector\images\timeline Pill Orange.png"  I seem to be missing the "image file."  How to fix.

Teh problem seems to be tht I am missing the "images" file.  Installs to that point and stops.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

That is your EFI partition and shouldn't be touched.
