HT2476 Installing non-App store software: How?

I want to install software not available from the App store. Mountain Lion won't let me do it. Is there a way around it? The software is to drive an interactive whiteboard for schools use. ActiveInspire by Promethean.
Hoping you can help. Thanks...

Got it thanks! I looked there but didn't see that option at first. Another way other than allowing all apps to be installed is to leave it locked CTRL click and select OPEN form the menu. This allows it to run (an installer in my case)
Cheers,
Roger

  • How to recover non-app-store Software?

I am trying to restore my iMac to the factory settings. Currently it is running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion.
Here's the problem. I have a bunch of Non-Mac App Store Software installed in it and I wonder how am I giong to restore them after the system reinstall. I know there should be no problem with App Store purchases as I can D/L them later. Would non App Store S/W work if I copied them to a different external drive and then copied them back after system reinstall?

Archive your existing system: Use Time Machine to back up or "clone" your existing system to another volume, using Carbon Copy Cloner or equivalent utility.
Restore your iMac to factory settings using its original System Install DVD or OS X Recovery whichever is applicable.
Using Setup Assistant, migrate your archived User Accounts and Applications to the restored iMac.
This will ensure the complete transfer of your previously licensed software.
Following that, upgrade your iMac to Mountain Lion using the same Apple ID used to purchase it. You do not have to pay for it again.

  • I can't install non app store programs

I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Safari is not adequately functioning for numerous websites. I downloaded both Firefox and Chrome....but I can't install them because they didn't come from the App Store!!!! .... and of course, they're not offered in the App Store.
I have also purchased several programs over the years, such as Audiobook Builder. I have a legal license and key. But I can't install from the .dmg file because I didn't download it from the App Store. It IS offered in the App Store, but I have to pay for it again!!! This is the case with 14 other programs including Disk Warrior, SuperDuper, ChronoSync, etc. Some aren't even in the App Store and others I'm expected to repurchase.
Complete user migration seems to be the only way I can get these apps on my new Mt. Lion machine.....but I am amalgamating three Macs into 1 new spec-ed out laptop. I don't have the space to migrate all of the user accounts from my Air, Mini and iMac.
How do I install (legally) purchased software such as AudioBook Builder OR free software such as Firefox onto my computer without repurchasing them? Or, in the case of Firefox, when it's not available in the App Store?

Click the Apple Symbol in the menu Bar then System Preferences>Security & Privacy> General. you will see choices for downloading apps.

    Delete the App Store app by dragging it and dropping it into the Trash.  Then download and install the appropriate update combo for your version of OS X;
    Install new MAS app -

iPhoto for iOS is no longer being offered by Apple and has been replaced by the Photos app. It is not compatible with iOS 8.  This Apple document may help:  Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8 - Apple Support

  • How do I install the app store release of 10.7 if my current OS is 10.7 DP4 (11A494a)?

I installed OS X DP4 (11A494a) over Snow Leopard, and now I want to install the App Store's OS X 10.7 Lion over Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A494a). However, the App store tells me this: http://d.pr/UsZx

Make a clone of the entire volume using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. After you have installed the new OS, simply migrate everything you need.

  • HT201210 How do I re-install my App Store icon?

How do I re-install my App Store icon?

Go to settings>general> restrictions> installing apps, see if it's been restricted.

  • How do i re-install my App Store?

I have some how disabled my App Store. How can I reinstall it?

What do you mean 'disabled my App Store' ? If you mean that you can't find it on your phone (it can't be deleted) then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the phone has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

    thanks nada

You can't.   You need 10.6.3 Snow Leopard minimum.
But depending on the model you have, you can buy Snow Leopard from the Mac Store.   Read below for the minimum specs required.

I have purchased MacBook Pro in November 2011. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote (pre-installed) come as uninstalled in the App Store. How to correct this anomaly?

If the iWork apps were not originally purchased from the App Store, i.e., you bought them on an iWork installer DVD, then the App Store has no record of the purchase. When updates are available for them, you'll get your updates through the Software Update application rather than through the App Store.
