HT2486 Address book help.

I added one contact now I can't get my details to open in the address book, I have to double click on the name and it opens in a separate window and I can't change it. HELP! It's driving me nuts!
I also can't import my contacts from OUTLOOK on my Windows laptop and forget Migration assistant!

Try the steps I posted here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3222240
Note that with iCloud (and I guess any other source) there is a Sources folder inside of the AddressBook folder. It has the same indexing databases. At this point, I don't know of you would need to remove those, also. When you throw away the iCloud one, it will take a few moments for the iCloud contacts to reindex.

  • Address Book Help is not available

I don't believe I have ever had Address Book Help. When I go to it, it will give me the prompts for Content, etc., but there is no information there.
Can someone assist me in figuring out how to download Address Book "Help". Would I go to my start-up disk and somehow just download that part? or is there a download on line which I can use?
I have no idea why it's not available. I've had the computer since 04 and seldom have needed to access Help in this regard. Now, I really need it.

  • Address book help can't find files

My address book help files can't be found by the help viewer. It only shows the first page. When trying clicking on the link it gives either the error message 'can't find the file' or 'something ...1001'. The same goes for Automator. I haven't checked the other applications but Image Capture which can find its files. I have also peeked with Pacifist into the apps packages and there ins't any help file in mentioned apps.
    Can anyone help or confirm?

    HI
Control or Right Click on the Address Book Application. From the resulting menu select "Show Package Contents". You should see a folder called Contents. Look inside this folder and you should see a number of files and folders. One of them will be called Resources. Look inside this folder and you should see a plain file (ie: one with no specific icon) called AddressBook.help. On 10.6.5 it should be approx 10.6 MB in size and be version 4.0. This itself is a package and if you control or right click on the icon you should be able to select "Show Package Contents". Drill down through the resulting folder and you should see all the files and folders that make up the Help Section for address book.
If for some reason you are missing some of these files or (more likely) don't have access to them (permissions have got messed up for some reason possibly) then either repair permissions or use Pacifist to extract AddressBook from the Installer DVD to reinstall the application again. I think it's also possible to copy over a working copy that's the same version from another mac.
Most applications on OSX are 'standalone' and pretty much everything to do with that application will be contained 'within' the application itself. There are other ancillary files some applications use or even need - such as files placed in the User Library and Application Support folders - again it depends on the application. Your mileage as ever will vary.

  • How can I stop iCloud from uploading my iCal & Address Book: Help!

    Hi,
I just made all the updates for my iMac and iPhone. All of them.
Then I (un)checked everything but "Find my Mac/iPhone"
Dispite my settings, I can still find replicas of my iCal and Address Book in iCloud through its Safari interface.
How can I delete my iCal and Address Book from the cloud and stop iCloud from mirroring them in the cloud.
    I appresiate your help,

  • Restoring Address Book - help!!

Yesterday I upgraded my Dual 1.8 G5 to Tiger from Panther. I took my Mac HD and copied the drive to an external, then reformmated the internal and installed the new OS.
So far everything is fine, except my Address Book. I did not specifically make a backup in the Address Book program, like i said above, i simply copied over my entire drive contents to another drive for backup. So obviously the new A. Book is empty (except for the personal card and Apple) and i cant find a way to get my old addies back. Of course I see that option under File or whatever but since I didnt not make a backup IN Address Book.. am i screwed? Most programs have a text file or some sort of file i can import, but i cant find it for this... any help, please?? thanks!!!
    dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If you backed up these folders & files, just replace them on your new system with your backups:
~(YourHome)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    ~(YourHome)/Library/Preferences/AddressBookMe.plist, com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist, com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    Then relaunch AddressBook.

  • HT2486 Address book data loss / iMac 10.5.8 / despite backing up on a NAS all data lost, including in the backup. How can I retrieve it? Thanks

Help! All my address book data disappeared from one day to the next. I entered my NAS back-up but all the address books going back in time are empty.
Then I got clever and thought I would sync my contacts from my iPhone 4 to my iMac. Brilliant idea - now all my iPhone contacts are gone as well except for 14 address that must have been input after my last sync with iTunes.
Can anyone help my find my lost data?

  • Palm Treo 650 Sync wiped out my address book--HELP!!

Got a replacement Treo 650; went to do my first hard sync. Not only did calendar not port over, but it completely wiped out my entire address book (except for two records created yesterday). Freaked out!! All my iSync settings are the same as previous and have always worked. What to do? Thankfully I still have my old Treo 650 with address book intact, but no one seems able to tell me how to reverse port that address book to my MacBook Pro.
    Pul-eeze someone help me!

This was likely caused by introducing an 'empty' Treo into your synchronization framework with the same HotSync name and without having reset the framework before doing so. The framework properly recognized the new devices as the old—but now empty—device, and removed all of the records from iCal and the Address Book as it should have.
Simply backing up both databases using the built in facility to do so, or assigning a new HotSync name to the replacement device would have either allowed you to immediately recover from this unforeseen consequence, or to have avoided it entirely.
Before you do anything else, you should read this document so that you understand how the synchronization framework operates.
Then, reset the framework by launching iSync, opening the Preferences… pane, and pressing the Reset Sync History… button. This will leave your sync clients registered and your data—such as it is at this point—intact, and set the truth database to appear as if you have never synchronized at all. When you attach your identically named original device, be sure that you choose to Merge data with your computer and not to Replace the data on it.
Once you have merged the data, open iCal and the Address Book and make any changes that you wish to to your data, then pause to back each database up using the built-in option in each application to do so. Synchronize once again, and you changes will not only have been backed up, but distributed across your synchronization pool.

  • Older version of Thunderbird suddenly updated itself to 13.3.0; where are the contents of my Personal Address Book - HELP!

Last night my old old version of Thunderbird suddenly updated itself to Ver. 13.3.0. I've finally fixed it to show my messages, but under "personal address book" there are no contents (and I had a lot of contacts). I back up my Profile files every night so I know which files are involved, but WHERE in the the Ver. 13.3.0 do I point it to see my collected contacts. I must admit that the "old" version of Thunderbird was very old (perhaps 7.6.0?) but I have had no need for any of the changes since the so have not updated; BTW, I do not like 13.3.0 as everything seems to be hidden. I cannot "export" from the old Thunderbird to the new version because I now don't have the "old" version. I cannot "import" from some other email program as I was using Thunderbird and I can't find any files in my Profile with the extensions mentioned in the "import" wizard. I hope someone can help me who understands where the secrets are hidden in the Profile files. Also, the information in the "Profile Manager" article don't seem to apply to my computer (Windows 7 Pro) so I wasn't able to pursue that. I'm not a programmer but I was really enjoying the older version of Thunderbird and hope someone can help me get my contacts back. Thank you so much.

This would be totally unsupported. . .
I suspect that the format of how PAB is stored would be incompatible with what Mozilla wants.

  • HT2486 address book did not migrate

I am having trouble getting my address book to come up on Lion.  can someone help me out?

I found a fix!  Not sure why it works, but it does.
Find Library folder by hitting Option key and Go Menu in Finder. Library is hidden now.
I copied my Addressbook folder from User/Library/ApplicationSupport/Addressbook to my desktop.
I then deleted my Metadata folder in the Address book folder ( still in Library).  Someone said that might help. It made it worse.
So, I trashed the entire Addressbook folder in Library and put back my original Address Book folder.
Volia!  All works like new.  Don;t ask me why. God helped me! :>
    Hope it works for you!
    Blessings,
    Bob

  • Convert Outlook Contacts to Address Book - Help

I am trying to convert Outlook Contracts to Snow Leopard Mac Address Book. I have been successful in converting and importing all contacts, but contacts with multiple e-mail addresses in Outlook Contacts only imported one e-mail per contact. My source file that I am using to import into MAC Address Book is a vCard file. I created the vCard file two different ways. First I tried Sperry Softward Add-In for Outlook. Next I tried importing the Sperry Softward source file into Google G-Mail Contacts. It imported into G-Mail successfully (multiple emails per each contact sucessfully imported). I then exported from G-Mail to create a new source file and imported the new file into MAC Address Book. It again, did not work.
    Any thoughts? Thanks <D

  • Address Book help

I accidentally overwrote the Address Book in the application folder. I saved my old address book to an external fire wire drive as a precaution, bought a 20 inch iMac Pentium and then dragged the old app into the new app folder.
Yes I'm an idiot and no I didn't realize I could import all my contacts via a .mac sync.
Anyway, now I'm being told that the current version of 10.5.1 won't recognize version 4.0.6 of the address book. I already deleted the old one out of the trash. I can't do a complete OS install as I have the latest version. I'm stuck with a version of Address Book that I can't use and I can't figure out a way to update it.
What can I do at this point? I need to hook up my iPhone at some point to the new computer (kind of the reason I bought it) but I can't figure out how to install the correct version of Address Book that I can then use to sync in my contacts

By default the Optional installer is not configured to install anything. You need to click the triangle next to Applications and place a checkmark by Address Book to have the installer install it.
