HT2486 Cannot access Edit Distribution List

I used to be able to access the Edit Distribution List but it is now grayed out. Does this have anything to do with using iCloud?
Any ideas?

Yes it does.  See this article.

  • Edit Distribution List in Address Book is gray

After updating to Lion OS 10.7, the Edit Distribution List menu selection is grayed out. How do we edit Distribution List (Groups) with contacts with multiple email addresses?

The key is that the Contact List is now being kept in the Cloud & you cannot edit the Distribution List in your Mac's Address Book.
    Easy Fix:
    Quit your Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Uncheck the CONTACTS icon
    Close Sys Pref
Open Address Book - Edit your Distribution Lists (No longer Greyed out)
    Quit Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Check the CONTACTS icon
You should be good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Edit an "intelligent group" in the "edit distribution list"

    Dear all,
how can i edit members of an "intelligent group" in the "edit distribution list"?
What I try to find out is if it is possible to edit members with more than one email adress like it works for a normal group.
I managed to get the "edit distribution Llist" button in the adress book enabled, but I can't edit an "intelligent group".
    System:
    Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Lion)
    Thanks in advance.

If you want to allow edit functionality of attached files without development work, you can tell your users to attach folders instead of documents. When the folder is opened from the detail screen the edit locally functionality is available for the folder's content through the standard hover menu. Of course the task description would have to include instructions on which file to edit. Not perfect, but could be a solution.

  • Edit Distribution List doesn't work

Before printing a group of envelopes, I used the Edit Distribution List command to make sure the correct addresses were in bold face. I OK'd the list, then printed the envelopes. The number of envelopes to be printed was larger than the number I wanted to print, so I check in preview & discovered that in fact all addresses, not only those in bold in the distribution list, were to be printed.
How can I prevent this from happening?

How can I prevent this from happening?
What you're describing is not abnormal; you seem to misunderstand what the Edit Distribution List command does. It does not let you choose which contacts to print or anything of the sort; it lets you edit contact information. So unless you remove or delete a contact from the group that you're printing, they will all print.
You can read more about that in the Help document for it.

  • Help please - Contacts freezes when I try to edit distribution lists

When I try to edit the addresses distribution list for a group, Contacts freezes with a spinning beachball. I've tried exporting the group as a CSV file, trashing the entire Address Book folder in Library > Application Support, launching Contacts and importing the CSV file, but this hasn't helped.
Editing distribution lists in Address Book / Contacts has been problematic since at least Lion. Seems like Contacts development was foisted off on a handful of green interns a long time ago.
Can anyone suggest an iCloud- & iPhone-compatible third-party contacts manager with some back-end muscle? Cobook is a nice front-end, but it doesn't solve my problem.

Well, I found that it doesn't actually freeze - it just takes 20 minutes or so to respond. This with a database of about 3,700 contacts. It also takes 5 minutes or so to accept the renaming of a smart group.
Who in **** built this thing? And, why are they spending more time on simulating fake leather and taking away and then restoring 3-panel view than on making this a halfway decent database?
Sadly, the only contacts app I can find that seems to have a robust back end is made by - Microsoft. Sad.

  • Unable to edit distribution list in address book?

Under address Book edit, the edit distribution list is greyed out. I have several groups that i need to correct the default email, but since I have upgraded to Lion, I have been unable to do this. These are not smart groups. I was able to do this with Snow Leopard but I cannot

And icloud has its own (issues) and Community.
There are support pages for every product, use the tab "Support"
    or go to: http;//www.apple.com/support/mail /cloud /lion /macbookpro
and this is NOT a forum devoted to macbook or laptops. but to 65lb towers

  • Accessing the Distribution list

    Hi All,
I am exploring the ways to access the Distribution lists from the email server programatically.
Following are few of the queries:
    1. How to send / fetch mails for the particular distribution list from email server.
    2. Is it possible to create the distribution list within code. If yes, then do all the mail server provide this kind of functionality.
    3. As the Distribution list is a group of email id's and not the one specified user. How does the authentication happens for this.
Any pointer to the relevant documenation.

  • Edit distribution list

After updating MobileMe to iCloud, I no longer can edit my distribution lists. This is a problem for contacts who have multiple email addresses. Suggestions?

I have turned off almost everything having to do with iCloud. I find it an arrogant mess. It deleted real music from iTunes -- even music I bought elsewhere than iTunes, duplicated my contact groups several times. I have no idea what is on the calendar on my various hardware. I'll wait until it's ready for prime time, although Godot will probably get here first. I wish Apple would quit coming out with new features and fix what they already have.

  • Address Book "Edit Distribution List" not working in Lion 10.7.2

I have been told by people in my "Groups" that I am sending to the wrong e-mail addresses.  I checked and sure enough so I went to edit the distribution list for that group and it's greyed out. It worked prior to this update. My wifes is still using 10.7.1 and edit didtribution list is not greyed out.....anyone having the same issue or any ideas where it is now or how to re-enable it....or is it just broken?  Also I am contented into iCloud.

To add to my original post.... My wifes OS was 10.7.1 and I just finished the update to 10.7.2 and signed into iCloud.  I first transfered iCal but left Address Book.  When I went into Address Book and checked the Distribution List it was not greyed out.  Next I transfered Address Book to iCloud and checked Dist List and it was greyed out.  Next I removed Address Book from iCloud (leaving a copy of it on the computer), restarted AB and checked to see if DL was still greyed and it was not.  So no fixes here but if you want the functionality of the DL you could turn off Address Book in iCloud temp until they come up with a fix.  Important: if you turn off Address Book from iCloud be sure to leave a copy on your puter and of course before doing any of this make a Archive Backup of Address Book.  I guess at this point it'll just be a waiting game until a fix comes out.  Cheers, Neil

  • Cannot access system member lists after deleting unused currencies

I recently removed some unused currencies from the metadata file for an app.
The currencies I removed were not set as the default currency for any entities, and there was no stored data in the application using those currencies. The currencies removed were also not referenced in the rules file or the member list file.
The problem is that, after deleting the unused currencies, when I try to select either the "[Inputs]" or "[Totals]" system member lists for the Value dimension (within a grid), the system returns a "The parameter is incorrect" error message, and no list appears. The log from system messages is as follows :
    The parameter is incorrect.

delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and log out/in. this will reset your dock, spaces and exposé preferences to the defaults. set them up again.

  • Address Book Groups - Distribution List problems

Recently upgraded to 10.6 and now on 10.6.3 - 2 Problems which are probably related:
1 - I cannot save changes to an edited Distribution List- I select the desired email address (ie it's in bold) and then click OK. When I go back to edit the list the changes have not been saved and it seems to randomly make changes to the selections.
2 - I have a (Smart) Group in Address Book and when I use that group in Mail the wrong email is selected for some of the members of the group - ie the emails used by Mail does not always match the selections in the Distribution List
Used to work fine in 10.5

    Oh no!
until now I though, it was my fault, but it seems to be a bug. I have the same problem with the distribution list. In my system, the mails are allways sent to the upper emailadress, even if the lower adress is highlighted.
Did anybody file allready a bug-report to apple?
    Regards
    Robert

  • How can I set a specific email notification for an email sent to a distribution list I am a member of?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7. For my job I need to be able to have my phone to get notificaitons from work. I need to be able to have a notification for emails sents to distribution lists that I am a part of. Basically I need to be able to set the notification based on the Sent To: field and not the From: field. Anyone have any ideas?

Create the group. Drag in the folks you want to include in the group. Right click on the group and choose "Edit Distribution List" and a window will pop up showing which addresses are selected in bold, and those that are not selected in plain text. Just click on the emails you want to use and it switches the selected address.

  • Address Book Distribution List - Multi Selection

In sending email to all members of a Smart Group, I need to send to more than one address per vCard (e.g. home AND work email, or his AND her address) But Edit Distribution List won't allow multiple selections. Is there a work around?

I want to do the very same thing and it seems as if the Address Book does not support it. Which is VERY strange since this should be a very typical use case for many users. Not just you and me.
The only workaround I have found is to create multiple cards for contacts that have multiple e-mail addresses and include these cards in the group I want to use for my distribution list. This is a very ugly solution.. Very unlike Apple. (And it means unnecessary work - especially at the time of updates when a number of identical card copies will have to be kept consistent).
The same solution was suggested in this previous discussion:

  • Address Book Distribution List Settings Don't Stick

Is there a bug in Address Book for distribution lists? When I attempt to edit an address book distribution by changing the default email, the setting does not stick. I can select a bold any address for a contact with multiple addresses, but then when I go back in and look at the distribution list, it goes back to the previous email and not the one I selected.

I was having a very similar problem.  For some individuals, I could change the preferred e-mail address in edit distribution list, but not for others.  After some messing around, I discovered that the only people whose settings didn't stick were those whose first e-mail listed in the Edit Distribution List sheet was a facebook.com e-mail.  If they had a Facebook e-mail that wasn't first in the list, I could change them.
The order of e-mail addresses in the Edit Distribution list and the individual cards wasn't the same. e.g. I couldn't reset my husband's e-mail address because in Edit Distribution, his facebook.com address was listed first.  But it was listed last on his actual card.
I fixed things by going to System Preferences, Mail Contacts & Calendars, locating my Facebook account in the list, and unchecking "contacts."   The facebook.com addresses disappeared in contacts, and the changes I made in Edit Distribution list stuck.

  • Distribution lists in Address Book don't stay set

I have several groups I e-mail regularly and many of the people on the lists have multiple e-mail addresses. I know to go to Edit Distribution List to select which one I want that group message to be sent to, but the selections don't seem to stay selected for that list...is there some way of saving the selections for a distribution list that I am missing? Am not sure whether the people with multiple addresses are just not getting the messages when they aren't selected or whether the message is going to all their e-mail addresses, neither of which is desirable.

Talked with AppleCare yesterday and was informed that this behavior is "normal"--whenever you close Address Book, it "forgets" the Distribution List choices you made. Apparently the only way to have someone in your Address book with different e-mail addresses that you use for different group mailings on a regular basis (in my case, folks on both the Chamber of Commerce list with their business e-mail and the Arts Alert list with their home e-mail), is to create duplicate cards for those individuals. One more aggravation in my efforts to be a good neighbor/volunteer who distributes useful information to others for free. If anyone knows another way to accomplish this, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.
