HT2486 Editing contact photos in Address Book doesn't work

Whenever I try to edit a contact picture in Address Book, the edits don't hold. I might reframe or recrop the image, and then click "done." And everything seems to be fine, for two or three seconds. Then it simply snaps back and reverts to the way it was. Sometimes after it reverts, it also shifts upward in the square, leaving a large black space at the bottom of the frame.
Why is this happening and how can it be stopped?!

Quit Address Book and go into your Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete AddressBook-v22.abcddb. Open Address Book and it should recreate the index. See if that makes a difference.

  • Export contact photos from Address Book [REPOST]

Exporting contact photos from Address Book in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is a simple drag-and-drop to iPhoto or Finder. The picture is saved as a TIFF. However, in 10.5 Leopard, dragging the contact photo is non-responsive in both viewing and editing mode.
How do you export contact photos from address book in Leopard?

I dont believe you can. The address book usually makes use of photos already available on your drive, such as those in your iphoto libraryd, or the login icons, etc. Perhaps the lack of drag and drop is something they unintentionally left out, in which case you can request it by sending Apple feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Address book doesn't work

I recently discovered that my Address Book doesn't work at all. I upgraded to Lion and everything was working fine. I imported old Vcards. Updated thing s and it was all running smoothly until a couple of weeks ago. No new updates , nothing. It just quit working.
No importing, no contacts, nothing. I have tried deleting the preferences. I have tried reinstalling. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I had it synced with Google. I didn't have it synced with Google. I had it synced with icloud. I didn't have it synced with icloud. I have tried every combination I can think of and now I am at the end of my rope.
Is anyone else having this problem? I noticed on the web that a lot of people are having trouble with this, but haven't been able to fix it and Apple has been of no help. Does anyone have any ideas? My default is just to move everything to google and stop using mac products altoghether.
    Thanks
    Michael

    Hey Barney,
What I meant by, "It just quit working", is that after I upgraded to Lion I had to switch from Entourage to Mac mail products, unless i wanted to shell out a few hundred dollars to Microsoft. Since I purchased iWork I was trying to avoid that and starting to use more Apple products.
I transferred all of my contacts into Address book and then exported everything to v-cards as a backup. For weeks everything was fine. I created new contacts. Imported some contacts from another computer. I even transferred some contacts from a Blackberry out to v-cards and imported them. Everything was going along just fine. I could add, edit, see everything.
Then, about a week ago, my wife asked for some info that I know I directly input into her address book (we share a computer, but she is her own user). I went over to her side, opened up her Address book and nothing was there. No contacts. I couldn't import anything. I couldn't add a new contact. Nothing. The program just didn't work. I went to my side to see what was up. Same thing.
I have now spent the last week trying to figure out how to fix it. I first got rid of the preferences (moved them to another folder and restarted the program). Nothing. I deleted the .abcddb file and restarted. Nothing. I even tried to reinstall from my original Leaopard disk, but could not access the Address book from the install disk by itself.
I've searched the internet for answers. Nothing. It's the oddest thing. All of my "contacts" as far as email goes work. I type and they come up, but if I open the Address book all I see are blank pages and the program itself seems to not be able to do anything. Can't import, there's nothing to export, can't add a contact or edit.
Ever since the upgrade to Lion I've had nothing but trouble with my computer at every turn. I probably just should have paid for the upgrades to all my Microsoft products and left the Apple ones alone.
Thanks for listening. if you think of anything or hear of anythong let me know.

  • My Address book doesn't work!

Log back in to your regular user account. Quit Address Book. Go you /Users/you/Library/Preferences and find these two files:

    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
Move them out to the Desktop. Does Address Book launch now?

Lightroom 5.2 eMail address book doesn't work

Being sorry really doesn't help. I'm running Windows 64bit and the address book function for eMail doesn't work. I installed 5.3 beta - no help!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
Well, SVHudson, what did you expect to get from your first post? There was no information at all, not even a question. We are not mind readers here.
Why didn't you start with the information you are providing now, which, even though it is still not complete, at least gives a hint of what your problem is?

  • Contact Photos in Address Book Not Saving

    Hello,
I am suddenly unable to save a photo to a contact in Address Book.
I have run into a similar problem before, when Address Book stopped accepting changes to contacts altogether. I followed advice I saw on the web and deleted the .plist files for Address Book in the Preferences file in my Library. That worked like a charm. Now, that doesn't work.
I have deleted the files, restarted my computer, verified and fixed permissions using Disk Utility, and let my computer rest overnight by leaving it off. Nothing works and I've tried several combinations of order.
I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a first generation Intel MacBook Pro. All software is up to date.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    I found this article online:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20004209-263.html
Export an Address Book Archive of all your contacts, then import it right back in. Worked like a charm.

  • New iPhone 4, How do I sync contact photos of address book on Mac to the iPhone contacts?

I have a new iPhone 4s, Cloud.  I have Mac with Cloud now.  Photos added to Mac address book do not always sync into the contacts of the iPhone 4s.  Ideas of what I need to do to get photos to show up on the iPhone contacts?

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

  • Mail and Address Book doesn't work together!!!

Since I converted addresses from Filemaker 7 to Address Book, the automatic fill in, in Mail doesn't work anymore.
The option: "fill in address automaticly" is active in the preference menu in Mail.
The problem feels not consequent, this means; some of the addresses are shown up in mail, others don't. I cannot find out where to search for the problem.
Who knows which file I can delete or any other solutions?????

You can check by dragging ~(YourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist to the desktop. Then relaunch AddressBook.
You could do the same with "com.apple.Mail.plist" but it contains all email account settings and general mail preferences, so you will have to set up your account info again.
Also you might try deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook.

  • Find in Address book doesn't work - always says 5 matches, never shows any

The contacts in my 10.6.2 install were migrated over from a 10.4.11 install on a PPC Mini. If I open Address Book and enter anything (real or nonsense) into the search bar, the number at the bottom of the window changes from "X cards" to "5 of X cards". It doesn't matter what the search term is, it always "finds" 5 matches, but the card shown doesn't change (and is not a match for the search term) and the list of cards doesn't reduce. On Tiger, as each character is entered, the list of cards diminishes to only contain valid matches.
How can this be happening? Has anybody else encountered this "quirk", and if so, what's the solution?
    Roll on 10.6.3...

Quit Address Book and go into your Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete AddressBook-v22.abcddb. Open Address Book and it should recreate the index. See if that makes a difference.

  • Dragging invitee to iCal from address book doesn't work

In Snow Leopard I would drag invitees to an event from Address Book and it would begin checking their availability.  Now when I drag an invitee, the red bubble with the number of contacts I'm dragging over appears, but the invitees don't actually make it over.

  • Address Book Doesn't Work in Snow Leopard

I recently downloaded Snow Leopard, and now my Address Book won't open. I'll click on the icon and this message pops up: "You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X. You have Address Book 4.1.2." I can still access all my contacts via Mail, but I cannot add or delete contacts. What should I do?

I'm not sure what you mean by you "downloaded Snow Leopard" as it cannot be downloaded. I'm guessing you mean that you installed it, or you downloaded and installed an update for it.
If you moved the original application out of the Applications folder, it will not get updated when you run the upgrade/install. Make sure it is in the Address Book. A couple things to try:
    1) Try installing 10.6 again.
    2) Download the 10.6.3 combo updater and install it--Make sure Address Book is still in the Applications folder when you install it.

  • My copied address book doesn't work on new computer

I transferred my address books to my new computer, but when I try to send a message it says the addresses are not valid. Both computers are Thunderbird and W8.1. I am receiving emails and can respond to emails that I get, but cannot write new emails. What's the trick?

Sounds like you did not get the right data in the correct fields when you imported the address book.
When you open the address book and look at one of the contacts info is the email address in the email address field? If not you need to get that right on the import or manually go through and change them all.

  • Global Address Book doesn't work while creating meeting invitation

    Hey dsimon
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Open the Calendar application and add a new appointment.   Make sure your calendar at the top is listed for the Enterprise account and not Home (Local Calendar).
Scroll down where it says Participants and click on where it says Invite (not the +) and start typing a name.  An option will pop below saying look up.... Click on Look up and it will search the GAL.
Let me know if you're still having trouble.
    Cheers.

  • Contact photos are not showing up in Mail message list, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it.

I'm using Mail 5.3 and Address Book 6.1.3 on X 10.7.5. I want my contact photos to show up in the message list on Mail, but only some of them do, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it. I've even tried replacing a photo that doesn't show up with a photo that does show up for a different contact but no luck. I am syncing to one other Mac, an iPhone and an iPad via iCloud.

  • Address book doesn't pick up on online contacts

I'm having a problem that seems to have been introduced by having Adium on my computer. I was using it for a while because of a problem I had encountered with iChat, but now I'm using iChat again. The problem is this: Address Book isn't working with iChat to see which contacts are online, and there is no contextual menu option to "send message" to a contact's Jabber/AIM/etc. account, as there should be. My hunch is that it's still pointing to Adium for this action. I've made sure that iChat is the default IM application, and done a full uninstall of Adium (per instructions here: http://adium.im/help/pgs/Miscellaneous-Uninstalling.html). But, it still shows up as "com.adiumx.adiumx" in the list of possible default applications in iChat. Any idea what the problem is?

    Hi,
I have 4 drives and one of those has two partitions so my iChat sees loads of options.
It is very difficult to make sure you have eliminated every possible reference to an app you have had installed.
I must admit to not using the Address Book to check if it is showing the correct On line Status.
A Quick look today suggests it is only showing Available ones.
EDIT. Further checking does show some Away people  with a red Blob. I also see at least one Away person with no blob in the Address Book.
I can't see at present what if any differences there are  (One possible are @Mac.com names are not showing)
IF you have many Accounts spread over AIM and Jabber then you can click a Buddy in any Buddy List and a Text Chat window will Open.
AT the top of this is an option to Select which Account you call from and to Which  Account/Screen Name the Buddy will use
This only shows if you are choosing to Show the Recipients Bar from the View menu.
Of course this is only effective if you and your Buddy have multiple accounts.
