HT2486 I cannot open my address book.. Help!  What do I do?

I cannot open my address book.  What do I need to do?

Triple click on the next line to select it all (do not type it)
rm -i L*/Pref*/com.apple.addressbook.plist
copy it to the clipboard, (edit > copy)
press command key and the spacebar and type
Terminal
and press enter to open the Terminal program
click in there and edit > paste
Now press the enter key
If it asks to confirm and it's the matching com.apple.addressbook.plist file , press Y and enter
If it says anything else, then press N and enter
Quit Terminal and  re-open your AddressBook and report.

You might want to try trashing these files in your user /Library/Preferences. They may have become corrupt. Don't empty the Trash just yet. You can always use File>Put Back if this doesn't help.
    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist (not sure you'll necessarily find this one.)
After doing this, go back and restore your Address Book preferences, which trashing these files will have removed. Moving the files back will return everything to the way it was before. New, clean preference files will automatically be created.

  • Some Contact FILEs cannot be opened in Address Book

Here "Contact Files" indicates the .abcdp files exsiting under:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata/
I have not noticed this before so that I am not sure whether this is specific to Snow Leopard.
There are some contact FILES that, though can be searched by Spotlight and showed in Quick Look, can NOT be opened by Address Book.
After I double clicked one of such contacts, Address Book is activated as normal: no warning message was shown and no abnormal system behavior.
Has everybody experienced the same problem or been aware of the cause/solution?
    Thanks!
btw, I can share such files if you ask.

  • I cannot access my address book now that I have updated to Snow Leopard.

I bought Quickbooks 2012 for the Mac, which required that I update my OS to Snow Leopard (at least.)  So I purchased it online (not available at apple stores anymore.) And Installed it.  Then I went to apple and got the free updates and installed them.  Now I cannot use my address book.  A message comes up that says " You can't use this version of the application Address Book.app with this version on Mac OS X. You have address Book.app 4.1.2"  HELP!  All my personal and business contacts are in there and predictably, I need them.

Can you open Contacts and edit, insert, and delete cards, or does it fail to work, also?

  • Couldn't Open the Address Book Database - Database is Corrupted

I get this error message anytime I attempt to modify a record in the address book. I also get this error when attempting to create a new group. I've attempted to restore the Address Book from backups via Time Machine as far 6 months ago.
I also did some poking around on the web and found an article advising to delete .plist files associated with the Address Book from my user > Library > Preferences Directory.
I did this but it continues to give this error.
I really need to update the Address Book or even export what I have and start fresh from reimporting my contacts. I don't know how to do this.
    Any help is much appreciated.

I followed the advice of Golden Shoes and everything appeared to work. I found out that I had spoken too soon. The next time I opened the Address Book none of the contacts were there. So, I've been doing an import when I need contact information. I import the vcard of all of the contacts I had exported. But, if I click on the File menu to Save them the Save option is greyed out and not available.
I thought that I might need a reinstall and my intention on getting Snow Leopard meant that I would wait until I upgraded to perform that install.
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and the same problem exists but now it seems to have spread.
Now, if I take the empty address book and add a contact then save the Address Book (The save option is now availalbe). Then close the Address Book, Quite the Address Book and then launch it again, the contact record I added is not there.
Any help that can be provided would be much appreciated. I really want to use the Address Book to manage my contacts.
    Thanks in Advance

  • Cannot sync my Address Book to Contacts

I cannot sync my Address Book to my .Mac. I always get this message
"Invalid response received from .Mac. Could not complete synchronization - please try again later". My password and account info is correct and I have followed the instructions for sycing with .mac account...Please help!

Thank you again for your help.  I probably was not as clear in my answer as I should have been.  I did follow the instructions in the linked article, even though it was for the iPhone.  Since I do not have a Windows Hotmail account, I could not use that guidance.  I will just type in the addresses I need as I need them when using the iPad device.  It would be much simpler if I could have just synced them directly to the device.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot import my address book from Outlook

There is no "Import" alternative om my Mail other then "Import mailboxes". Even if I open my Address Book, can´t find any help.
I exported the file from Outlook and it is there, just waiting.
    Any ideas?

    Hi.
If you want to import your contacts from Windows into OS X Addess Book, do this:
In your Windows machine, go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Address Book, then, on the contacts lists, select the contacts you want with Control-Click (or select one and then Edit/Select All), and then go to Edit/Copy.
Create a new folder on the desktop, and paste those items. They must have the .vcf extension (vCardFile).
Transfer that folder to your Mac. Open Address Book (on OS X) and a Finder window of the transfered folder contents, select them all, and drag and drop them to the Address Book Name field of its window, a verification dialog should show up, accept and that's it.
    Good Luck.

  • Tip: why Open In Address Book opens a "random" contact

This might be a bug. If you have an Attendee in an event, and choose Open In Address Book, sometimes AB will open to a seemingly random contact. I finally figured out that if there is more than one card in AB that matches the attendee, AB will simply display the last-viewed contact instead of the desired one.
In Mail when you start typing a contact name in the To field, you're presented with a list of matching contacts. Can't iCal do something similar? I love the way Mail, iCal, and AB work together, but the inconsistencies in behavior sometimes make me think that the different teams at Apple don't talk to each other enough.

    Maybe this will help.

  • ICal: 'Open in Address Book' Function for 'Attendees' does not Work

iCal lets you drag a Contact from Address Book to the 'Attendees' field of an iCal Event. (You can also put the information into the field by typing the first few letters of the person's name, and Address Book will automatically populate the field with contacts containing those letters.) When you click on a contact in 'Attendees' and select 'Open in Address Book', it is supposed to open the contact's information in Address Book (in case you needed their phone number, forgot their wife's name, etc.). In the previous version of iCal, this ALMOST worked; it would find someone in Address Book, but it would be the first person in your Address Book list with that first name; not always the person you wanted.
The problem now is that when you click on a contact in 'Attendees' and select 'Open in Address Book', it simply opens the Address Book application and stops there; it does not go to the contact's data in Address Book. I sent Apple feedback on this problem 3 years ago, and again a few months ago, but it still does not work correctly. Does this work correctly for anyone?

Mine actually performs the sync, but after a few rounds of syncing, some contacts get deleted, some get their photos removed, some get duplicated, and some get removed from groups. The sync basically puts my address book through a blender. I'm syncing both with MobileMe and Google. Well, that is I tried to. I've decided not to sync with Google since that's what seems to initiate the mess.

I have no idea how to open my address book.

This can be done only by importing the ldif file . you can export the address book from the outlook in the ldif file format. using ldapmodify you can import the address book into PAB.

  • My school has a website.  The professor uploads files in Word.  When I click on the link at home using Pages, the download window opens with nothing in it and Safari opens with a blank in the address book.  What Could be wrong?  Wrong set up?

My school has a website.  The professor uploads files in Word.  When I click on the link at home using Pages, the download window opens with nothing in it and Safari opens with a blank in the address book.  What Could be wrong?  Wrong set up?

    Hi Jo,
If I'm interpreting this correctly, the Word file downloads correctly, but when you open it in Pages, the link(s) which your instructor has embedded in the Word file are not correctly translated into Pages.
If the link shows the actual address, you should be able to copy that and paste it into the location bar in Safari, press return, and get to the website that way.
An alternate route might be to download one of the open source Office applications, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice. These are written to more closely emulate the behaviours of MS Word than Pages, and may provide better support for links embedded in Word files.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Address Book Help is not available

I don't believe I have ever had Address Book Help. When I go to it, it will give me the prompts for Content, etc., but there is no information there.
Can someone assist me in figuring out how to download Address Book "Help". Would I go to my start-up disk and somehow just download that part? or is there a download on line which I can use?
I have no idea why it's not available. I've had the computer since 04 and seldom have needed to access Help in this regard. Now, I really need it.
