HT2490 Show Desktop" gesture query in Mountain Lion

Can I change "Show Desktop" gesture to "swipe down with four fingers" on Mountain Lion?
My muscle memory prefers swiping down when I'm designing and have a lot of programmes open but the Mountain Lion doesn't seem to allow me to edit this particular function. Is there away around this?

OMG I think this is a major oversight.
It was a major step up from Leopard that the four finger swipe brought up the heads-up screen and Desktop. Now the only way to see all apps open is command-Tab.
Agreed the thumb-three finger, not only awkward does not work 50% of the time, making it much harder to get to the Desktop. This is something you do all the time ! Back to fn-F11 or conveniently control-click missioncontrol icon on the Dock.
MissionControl ? Not so useful if you can not access the open and hidden files, what where they thinking??? three finger, four finger, Dock icon why all those options at the expense of the most useful in a day today day work machine.
Hopefully they can modify the TrackPad preferences in a future update to bring these most functional gestures back!

If the new desktop came with Mountain Lion already installed, you will have to purchase it separately for your portable. If you purchased ML for the desktop, you do not need to pay for it again.

Enabled fonts not showing up in InDesign after Mountain Lion Upgrade

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, fonts that are enabled in Font Book (Adobe open Type) are not showing up in InDesign CS5.5.
However, if I go to Font Book and disable the fonts, then re-enable them...they will show up in InDesign.
Anyone know how to fix this?

It sounds like a small glitch in your Mountain Lion upgrade. If you're just done an in-place upgrade (not a clean install) these things can happen.
It sounds like you've found the workaround. But if you discover other problems with the upgrade, you should consider a clean install. Do a Google search on "clean install Mountain Lion" to find out how.

Desktop files missing after Mountain Lion update.

I work in a research lab at a University, and we ran an update on one of our lab computers [previously on 10.7.4]. Upon updating the OS to Mountain Lion, all of my files were fine, with the exception of the files on the desktop.
On the HD, there was the newly selected user name [BlankenshipLab], and the old username, which said [JB(deleted)]. I could look into the (deleted) folder, and see subfolders for Desktop, Documents, Movies, etc., etc. But, I couldn't access them, as it said I didn't have permissions. As such, I rooted the new user, and I used the sudo chown -R blankshiplab:staff /Users/JB/Desktop. I used this command on all other subvolumes. When I gained access, the desktop folder, was empty, however. There were old files in the documents and downloads folder that weren't there before, either.
If anyone could help us recover the missing files, it would be greatly appreciated!

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Also, turn off IPv6:
System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
Or whatever Interface you use.

Safari isn´t showing Facebook quick link on Mountain Lion

Hi guys, I´ve noticed that Safari won´t show Facebook link in the Condivision Quick Menu. I can just see Twitter but not Facebook. Any idea why?

FaceBook is not there because it hasn't been added to Mountain Lion yet. As Apple said expect it to be added sometime in the fall.

Track pad gestures fail in Mountain Lion

I just installed Mountain Lion and I'm having occasional problems with the trackpad. Out of nowhere the gestures such as expose, all application screens, etc. fail to work. Even the hot corners don't work. I've typed "killall Dock" into the terminal, and that fixes it, but it's annoying to have to do that. Is there an update out yet? This is kind of a drag.

Unable to use show desktop gesture in full screen

Hello,
I save a lot of temporary items to my desktop. I also use full-screen mode for nearly everything and I find it a bit frustrating that I can't just gesture back to the desktop. If I swipe to another desktop, I don't have the same saved items.
Anyone have suggestions for a workaround?

Ahh figured it out. But my hot corner for show desktop still doesn't work when in full screen. Any other suggestions?

Why does App Store show i haven't bought mountain lion???

I've bought the OX X Mountain Lion and truly installed. But I enter the App Store again. I see the price tagged on the Mountain Lion software which means I haven't bought yet? At the same time, I check the Purchased page on App Store. I can't find any purchasing record either. Anything else I bought is showed up. Why??? Please help me to solve it. Thanks a lot : )

Same thing has happened to me. I purchased and installed Mtn Lion (on this MacBook Pro). I even installed it on my home Mac mini. However, when I went to the App Store, it was not listed it in my Purchases list, and it has a purchase price button on the Mtn Lion app page. I restarted the computer(s), signed out & back in w/ correct Apple ID, trashed preferences, asked it to check for unfinished downloads, tried on other computers (one w/ Mtn Lion, one w/ Lion installed)...nothing worked so far.
Then I stumbled on the answer...
Go to the top Menu bar > Store and click on View My Account (accountname), then enter you password. In the following dialog window, you should see listed Hidden Purchases under the iTunes in the Cloud section. Click on the View Hidden Purchases and the next screen should show Mountain Lion as hidden...simple click Unhide. It should now show in your Purchases list as well as offer Download button on Mtn Lion info page.

Do I have to re-installo Parallels Desktop after OS X Mountain Lion migration

I upgraded my iMac 27'' to OS X Mountain Lions. The previus installed Parallels Desktop (Version 6) is not more available. So I cannot start any Window Vista application (a question mark "?" instead of a Window Application folder is desplayed in the dock). Do I have to re-install Parallels Desktop ? If it is the case which Version do I need to install ?

Your version isn't supported. Run the Parallels Desktop installer and it will update to the most recent version

HT2490 menu bar at top screen mountain lion is on pop up mode, I want it to stay visible but can't find where to do that on the system preferences

I hate the mountain lion upgrade and have had more problems with it than good things!
Its reset a lot of things on my computer, one of them being that the menu bar at the top with the apple logo on the right etc pops in and out of view whereas I would like it to stay visible but admittedly I'm no computer genius but I can't find where to change this setting. Any help???
And mountain lion with safari blocks plug-ins so I installed google chrome which works fine so I can watch you tube, why can't I watch you tube with safari??? totally annoying!!!! I have the most up to date adobe flash player also but it always tells me its not up to date. No idea how to fix this but I hope apple fixes it soon. Really disappointed with the "upgrade"

If you can't see the menu bar using Safari, it sounds like you're using full screen mode.
Try Control + Command + F to reveal or hide the menu bar.

Remote desktop not working on mountain lion

My ARD does not work on Mountain Lion. The software opens but all I get is the menu at the top, and my only working option is to quit. I spoke to Apple support and they suggest (as they usually do) to reinstall the whole operating system, but I can't accept this as a valid answer as everything else works. There must be a way to fix this without having to reinstall a machine that came originally with Mountain Lion!

I was able to fix my issue by just uninstalling ARD (I used AppZapper) - and just reinstalling it - no "Archive & Install" required - best of luck with your situation!

My email will not show up in notifications in Mountain Lion!

I recently downloaded Mountain Lion and all of my notifications are working fine except for email even though I have them turned on both in the notification settings and email preferences.

I feel your pain.
For a while I couldn't get it to work (using Inbox in Mail Preferences). I kept fooling around - including adjustments to System Preferences Notifications - and finally it started working. I am not sure at what point I got it working.
For the record, it works (for me, anyway) with New Mail Notifications set to "Inbox" in Mail preferences and with all checkboxes checked and "Alerts" selected for Mail in System Preference>Notifications.

Does it happen repeatedly? once? intermittently?

Is mountain lion compatible with parallels desktop 5 for Mac?

I currently have Mac OS X. 6 snow leopard and want to upgrade to the latest version of Lion. But I use Parallels desktop 5 for Mac. Will this be compatible?

You cannot change the label of Desktop 1, Desktop 2 etc. in Mountain Lion.
I don't believe it was possible in Lion either.
