HT2500 Adding me mobileme account to mail will not work because it does not accept the password but works on iphone and ipad?

I am attempting to add my mobile me account to mail on my iMac. The first step is to give the email address and the password. For some reason it does not recognize the password. It is the some password used on iphone and ipad and logging on to me.com

The problem isn't really the Password, but the default Servers if you choose MobileMe for account type.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
• Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 587
• SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria: 8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers. If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message. Go to http://appleid.apple.com then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

razmee209, thanks for your reply. After signing up for the community, I saw that I wasn't the only one. However, I think I've solved it by looking over the comments in reply to others with this problem.
First, I think the iOS5 update may have made the phone default to IMAP setting. I noticed when I deleted my account and re-set it up that there is a large button at the top for either IMAP or POP. It is already defaulted to IMAP, but my account must be POP. So this is the first thing to check when you're setting up your account.
Second, I noted some other comments about needing to supply a username and password to the outgoing server even though it says optional. I included those, but got a message that it wasn't recognized (or something like that) and did I want to continue anyway. I told it to continue. After a few seconds, it verified my account, and now everything works.
Hope this helps others having this problem.

On your iPad, just go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, etc.>Add account>iCloud and put in the details of the account you set up. Shouldn't be a problem at all.

If you intend to keep using iCloud on your iPad, your best course of action would be to update your Apple ID/iCloud information so that you have a known password and it is associated with an active email address. You may find the following articles helpful:

You have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated credentials. This deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.

Set 2 independent users on the iMac, each can then have their own accounts (iCloud, iTunes etc)

Do you have more than one mail account on the iPod? The Mail app usually is set up to use alternate outgoing SMTP serves if the primary (the one associated with the accout you are sending from) is not available. Some providers do not allow sending mail from other the the account associated with that server. It appears that the primary server is not responding and a secondary server is rejecting the messag.
Try resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.

I got the iPhone 5c around Christmas and it's worked fine until yesterday!!! This has been going on 2 days now. I have reset iMessage, and the network settings. I've restarted my phone and iPad and they're both completely cleared of messages. I don't know what else to do.

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage. There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

Mail box missing on Mac but is in iPhone and iPad

I use Gmail. I have a mailbox named "notes" it shows up on my iPhone and my iPad but it does not show up in my mailbox list on my Mac. Running Mac air and Mountain Lion. Been into Gmail and it is there just like all my mailboxes. And as I said it is in my list on both my moble devices. Any ideas why it does not show up on my Mac Air in Apple Mail? any help would be appreciated, driving me bonkers because I use that mailbox to store topic specific mail.

Notes are not managed in the Mail application anymore. There's a separate application called "Notes." To sync notes with iCloud, you have to check the box marked Notes in the iCloud preference pane.

I cannot log into my old Apple ID because I don't remember the password, but I cant change the password because the e-mail it was based from was hacked and deleted. How do I remove the old ID from my iCloud without the password?

If you are the original owner of the phone, you can force it into recovery mode to restore it as explained here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. I Have a new apple ID and it is asking for my old ones password, I try to enter an app and it asks me to sign in but I hit cancel then ot kicks me out of the app, everytime.

When an app is purchased, it is locked to the Apple ID used to purchase/download the app. That will never change. If you have apps that are asking for the old ID for an update, it is working the way it is supposed to. If you cannot remember that password, then you will need to delete that app and download it again with the new Apple ID.

Secure online account number does not autofill because it does not detect this browser.

With version 3.6.xx, the "Secure Online Account Number" by a credit card can detect the browser when you click on "autofill" information. This no longer worked on this version (v.10) of Firefox. I understand that there may be security or other settings to version 10 browser so that it can be detected by the "autofill".
