HT2500 has apple blocked leopard from functioning with email if email has been upgraded to icloud?

i upgraded to icloud and suddenly i can no longer receive email on my mac mini or macbook pro. i have my husband and mother's mac account in my email as well and they have not upgraded to icloud and their mail works fine. i have a new computer with lion and my email works there but it is not my main computer so i don't want to run into the bedroom to get mail. besides, since it is lion, it does not work with my printer so i can't print any email.
my password is correct, setting are the same, absolutely nothing changed from one day to the next other than upgrade to icloud. has apple stuck us so we HAVE to get a new system to get our email?

i would think that, but i have 2 other mac email addresses that have not been upgraded to icloud that work perfectly fine on the same mail program on my 2 computers that do not have lion. the settings are exactly the same on all 3. hence the beginning of my query.

I have a mac book pro, while ago. I work with film/ adverts etc - I'm very perticular about ratio/ deinterlacing/ overall quality. Which is why I use VLC over apple's DVD software (sorry apple it really is soddy).
Only problem is that my DVD spun so fast it made so much noise that I couldn't actually watch a movie.
I take my mac back to the "genius" bar. They replace my DVD drive. Comes back - no sound. Burns faster - fantastic, very happy.
Problem:
Then I try and watch a film in VLC > would load. Load up Apple's DVD player > works fine (wrong aspect ratio and interlacing, pretty sure the sound quality is less). I update VLC. I get a little result but now picture/ sound is pixelated. For the record I'm region 2 camp and I'm using a Region 2 disk (nothing naughty)
What is wrong? Why can't I watch DVD's using the software that I want? Is it Apple adopting Windows level of control? Nearly all the films I watch are subtitled - Apple DVD doesn't support this very well - if at all. I can't even use front row cause of this.
Please could somebody shed light on this.

Did you repair permissions & restart your computer after updating VLC?
Did you trash or reset VLC's preferences, as well? Especially after updating it?
The VLC developers are constantly adding new features or improving its capabilities, so it is a known issue that a preference set from a previous version may be incompatible with the latest release. Hence the "Reset all" button on the preferences window, or even the +*Delete Preferences*+ applescript applet included in the standard VLC dmg. As per the README.MacOSX file from vlc-0.8.6h:
14. VLC does not start anymore or does strange things
Delete your preferences and try again. You can use the script "Delete Preferences.app" on the disk-image to do that. If you want to do it by hand, delete "org.videolan.vlc.plist" and a folder called "VLC" in ~/Library/Preferences (your personal preferences-folder inside the library of your HOME). If this does not help, see 13.

Alternatives if you must run Java 7
If Apple disabled Java 6 in 10.6, and you can't upgrade OS X to 10.8, then your pretty much done with Java in OS X because Oracle won't issue updates for Java 6 anymore.
However you can install Windows 7 and continue to use Java 7+ there until support for Windows 7 ends in 2020.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
If your on 10.6, I very highly recommend the free Virtualbox for the virtual machine software as it gets updates, VMFusion and Parallels have moved on with only 10.7+

I was glad to find that stored procedures can be invoke with Java class code by the object of Callable statement like :

Why has Apple not addressed the problems with its own software?

Since I seem to have made the fatal mistake of upgrading my lovely iMac to Snow Leopard, most of my iLife 09 products have ceased working. In particular iDVD, where as before on faithful Leopard it did its job 100% it now decides to crash whenever it feels like it, leaving me with a third party application to use. Myself, along with approx 2000 other users have the same problem, so come on Apple, why the problems with your own software?? and why are we still waiting??

Welcome to apple discussions. Question for you: Is your mac intel based?
If not, what's the objective in upgrading to Snow Leopard as opposed to continuing to work perfectly within Leopard? What added features were you considering to upgrade to? Are there any benefits in doing this for your own mac (even if it is intel based)?
It's wise to approach all upgrades with caution (meaning always back up your current / working HD).
Frankly, the way I upgrade is to clone my existing hard drive and then boot to the clone. Thereafter, I install the latest upgrade or OS (assuming it works well on the clone). I guess what I'm saying is to never upgrade without backing up and performing a test drive of the latest OS before you opt to alter your main hard drive. One can't assume that the latest and greatest Mac OS will continue to work fine on a mac which didn't first ship with this particular OS.
This latest Mac OS /Snow Leopard is a bold step forward for apple. It's bold step forward in that it excludes all non-intel based macs.
