MIght be corrupted preferences ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.

I have a Yahoo search bar acting like an App tab that I can't get rid of. There is no option to unpin when I right click on it.

I have a yahoo search bar which was installed during a download and installation of SIW.exe a system information application from http://gtopala.com/. It was the freeware version which is add based software. However I didn't expect that the search function would be such a nusance and interfere with Firefox's functions.
The search bar is acting like a App tab that I can't move or get rid of. Ther is no option to unpin the object when I right click on the bar or to change it in any way using the 'group your tab' function to the right of the tab tool bar.

Reply: Cor-el > Excellent!! Thank You. In Tools, Add Ons, Extensions there was a Default Tab enntry which was the culprit. Am running W7 so the XP Tools, Options, Advanced , Use Hardware acceleration when available, wasn't of much help here, however I did fix a problem on another computer running XP with that same fix. Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'

EUREKA, I found the solution to my problem in a Discussion initiated by gingertodd on July 27, 2011 entitled "Safari in Lion hijacked by malware." The solution was provided by Badunit who recommended force quitting Safari and then reopening it while holding down the Shift key. It worked instantly, and I subsequently was able to open Safari normally by just clicking on its icon in the Dock. THANK YOU BADUNIT!

I did remove Bing from the drop down menu, but it is still in Firefox as main search engine. I also did a back up and restore. Nothing has worked so far. I read a post that people were able to delete Bing from Explorer. I guess using Explorer will be my last resort.

Downloaded Firefox update for my Mac and now when I open it, there is a white box at the top of the page with a grey bar in it that I can't get rid of

I updated my firefox browser for my Mac and now, when I open it, an empty white box appears at the top of the page with only a gray bar in it. It over lays the Firefox home page and I can't get rid of it, so I can't click on anything on the Firefox page. I tried deleting Firefox and redownloading it, but that didn't help. I have an additional row that is empty under my tabs in Safari 5.1 that I can't get rid of.

The bar right under the tabs is empty and just taking up screen real estate. It isn't so bad on my desktop monitor, but when I'm just using the laptop screen it is a lot of lost screen space. I have only noticed it over the past couple of days, and I don't remember installing anything. I can't find a setting that will let me get rid of the bar. When there is only one tab and the tab bar is hidden it looks like this:

Please enable guest logins and log in as Guest. Launch Safari and test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and disable it if you wish.

Yeah - not really. Sorry - but you will need to get it fixed so you can back it up. You are going to want to Restore your new iPhone from that backup when you get it, so it will really be worth it.
As soon as you get your new iPhone, set up automatic iCloud backups, or if you don't have Wifi, then it is really important to get into the habit of backing your device up weekly to iTunes.
