HT2506 Preview reorders my photos

When trying to view my folder of photos in Preview, the program reorders them despite the fact that they are displayed in the folder in numerical order. This means that playing slideshow they are in the wrong order. Why? and how can this be fixed? thanks

when i select all the images in a folder, they show up in preview in the same order they were in the folder.
but since that isnt happening to you, you can reorder the images on the side panel of the preview window:
also maybe look into using iPhoto for the slideshow, as it gives you many more advanced options

  • HT2506 I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any Preview updates in the works. I find there is a problem with Preview crashing, or taking a very long time to "catch up" (spinning beachball of death) while I'm editing.

I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any updates to this program in the works. It seems Apple is constantly updating its software, except for Preview. I find it crashes all too often, and also takes forever to "catch up" with me (as in spinning beachball of death) when I'm editing a lrge amount of photos. Yes, I know I should be using Photoshop or somesuch, but it's just too **** confusing, and I don't have the time to figure it out. Thanks!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

I can see a preview of the photos, but I cannot access or edit them.  They say "the folder cannot be located" and "the photo is missing".  I have gone through multiple Adobe tutorials to try and recover them to no avail.  Any tips?

Backup catalogs wouldn't have helped with this problem anyway, but naturally, you shouldn't delete backup catalogs for a while.
The solution to reconnecting the folders is given here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

Upgraded Firefox this morning. Before in the upgrade when in Facebook, used to see a full size preview of a photo before clicking the photo to open it. This was very useful and timesaving. Don't know if was a Firefox feature or Facebook feature! Any help welcomed.

I suspect an extension got disabled after your upgrade to Firefox 5.
You can try this extension to override compatibility issues,

    Purchase the software.

You have already found a way.
Someone put some work into developing a program so if the photos are important, purchase the software.

  • How do I keep my manual reordering of photos when I duplicate albums?

Hello.  I have a large batch of photos from a 12 day, family trip.  Over 4000 pictures coming in from various relatives cameras, and my goal is to whittle this down and put together a nice slide show AND a cd that has the best pics in a chronological order (I want to make this as easy for Grandma to look at/download as possible).  However, not everyone has correct 'time/date' settings, so Im spending a lot of time manually reordering.  (because of the inconsistant source/time stamping, I cannot order these by 'name' or 'date'.
So, Ive sorted all photos into albums for each of the 12 days, and within each album I have two folders.
ex: FOLDER 1: ALL Wednesday Pics (653 photos), and FOLDER 2: Wednesday Best (52 photos).
Ive then gone into the 'Wednesday Best' folder and manually sorted the photos to make a more chronological order.
Ive repeated this for all 12 days.  Ive got everything in the order I would like.  Except they are in 12 separate little folders.
Where I get into trouble is I want to make one large 'master' slide show, but it seems every time I try duplicating/copying/moving a 'manually reordered' group of pictures, that order gets reset.
I want these pictures to remain in the order that I have spent hours and hours on.  And I cant figure out how to do this.  Can I lock them down or make sure this 'reordering' is set?
    Any ideas?
    thank you..!
    erik

Batch rename the contents each folder via the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to Text with the option checked to add a sequential number to each photo.  You'll get  something like this: Photo-01, Photo-02, Photo-03..  When you're finsidhed with all of the folders put them all into a single album with the sort set to By Title.  That will give you what you want.
    Happy Holidays

  • Preview quality of photos reduced

When I drag a 720x480 photo into iMovie and view it in the preview window using "full video resolution", it is noticeably blurrier than that photo looks on my screen viewed exactly the same size, in an image editing application. I'm looking the two on my screen, side by side. This is with no Ken Burns or other effect applied.
Since NTSC video is supposed to be 720x480, why do I appear to be losing resolution? The image just does not look as crisp as the original.
Is this just a problem in the preview and will it look better on TV?

I can't comment on 720x480 pictures. But i just finished a video with at least 75 Jpegs 2272x1514 imported from iphoto.
The comments made when i showed the video were that it was impossible to distinguish the pictures from the video excepted that the pitures did not show any motion. (i disabled the ken burns effect this time because the video would have been zooming in every 5 seconds).
Keep in mind that if you are using a crt, your picture will always be a little darker and a little fuzzier than what will show on your finished video. I am not sure but i think LCD displays will give a closer match to what you will see during your show.

  • Preview not showing photos after upgrade to 10.5.3

    Hi
Since I upgraded to OS 10.5.3, my Preview program will open and seems to run properly...
Except that I cannot actually see the photo that is open. The Preview toolbar shows and I can select the various options. But there is no window with the photo in it.
    Any clues?
I already deleted the related plist files in User Library/Preferences. This did not change a thing.
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    Dominique =)

Maybe deleting those plist files did work in the end - as this is the only thing I attempted to do to solve the issue, since I upgraded to 10.5.3 2 days ago.
It took a few minutes, but all of a sudden, my Preview application was working as normal.
    =)

  • Are previews deleted when photos are deleted?

After being confused for a while (as I'm sure many are) about not being able to delete photos from my memory card from Lightroom, I am trying to get into a "correct" workflow which I believe involves formatting the card when I have saved and backed up the images on it. So far I've come to this:
    0) Start with an empty memory card and take photos with my camera
    1) Import all photos, selecting to create 1:1 previews
    2) Look through the imported photos, marking the ones I never want to look at again as Rejected
    3) Delete Rejected photos
    4) Backup everything that is left
    5) Format memory card
This seems to work, but I just want to make sure that the 1:1 previews created during the import of the photos that I Reject are deleted at the same time as the Rejected photos are deleted, so that they are not part of the backup step. Is this the case?
Also, are there any other problems with this workflow?
    Thanks,
    David

Previews should not be in the same folder hierarchy as the actual images.
With regards to rejecting photos, there are pros and cons to each approach. I just import everything.
I don't know if previews are deleted immediately when the image is deleted, I don't worry about it, I have never had a need to see whether a particular preview exists in the preview cache, so actually I don't know the answer. Why does it matter? Is your disk so close to being full that you are worried about it? that's the only possible reason I can think of to worry about what exists and doesn't exist in the previews cache, and since Lightroom does a very good job of managing these preview files so the human user doesn't have to, I would recommend you not worry about it. There's enough to do managing your actual images so my advice is to not worry about what is and is not in the preview cache.

  • Blurry iPhone 4 Previews for managed photos

There have been some previous posts on related blurry preview topics, but I have some very specific observations which may help, and I'm wondering if anyone
    a) has seen this before
    b) believes this should be filed as a bug report to Apple.
    c) has better suggestions.
I'm using Aperture 3.1.2 currently (though most of the below was observed with 3.1.1) on an iMac i3, running 10.6.6.
I have three cameras from which I import photos into Aperture: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and Canon 5D.
    - iPhone 3GS and Canon 5D: no matter whether I import directly into Aperture library (managed) or leave the photo somewhere else (referenced), the previews are sharp (when the original is sharp).
    - iPhone 4: when the JPEGs are managed, then they appear blurry. When they are imported as referenced, then they are fine and sharp. This is really obvious if I import the same photo directly into the library first, then copy the JPG somewhere else (say with a different filename), and import that photo again into the same project.... the blurry preview and sharp preview show up side by side.
My import workflow for iPhone's, by the way, is to first use Image Capture to download them to a folder on the local HD, then import from directory using Aperture. The reason why I do this is because, unlike Aperture, Image Capture allows you to delete the original photos after import. For my 5D, I import directly from CF card using Aperture itself.
I have tried the various suggestions posted on the forums for the blurry previews:
o Regenerate Previews - this does nothing
o Rebuild library - this doesn't change anything, and has the added disadvantage of adding a whole bunch of previously deleted folders (or that was in the Trash) into my library.
o Delete Previews, restart Aperture - again nothing.
I also tried to Relocate Masters for those iPhone 4 JPEGs that were imported directly into Aperture library (managed). This doesn't update the preview either.
The only thing that seems to work is to relocate the masters, delete the versions, then to reimport the relocated masters back into Aperture as referenced. However, this deletes all of one's tags, edits, etc....
Blurry previews are extremely frustrating, as it makes it really difficult to quickly triage through lots of photos. Later on, my wife may look at that photo in Browser mode and say, why did you tag that with four stars? Only by displaying in single photo or three-up view can one realize that it was a good sharp photo.
I'm quite annoyed that Apple's own products won't integrate... I like Aperture overall too much to go back to Lightroom, but at the end of the day productivity is what matters.
    Thanks very much.

So, I had to reboot my iMac since Aperture was hanging when opening the library. After the reboot, no matter if I try importing by drag and drop to the folder, or by checking and clicking on "Import Checked", the previews are now sharp from the iPhone 4 images.
    - In most projects, though, the previews that were not sharp before did not automatically become sharp.
    - What is weird is that in one particular project, the iPhone 4 previews did seem to become sharp, but my 5D shots in that project the previews became blurry.
It's getting weirder and weirder, folks!

  • Preview problems--choppy photos and music

When I send my iMovie project (about 14 min long) to iDVD and then do a preview, the playback of both the video (just photos using the Ken Burns effect) and music is choppy in iDVD.
    Please advise.

I have over 5 GB of free space. Filevault is off. I've also trashed the iDVD pref file and when I reopen a iDVD file right after the trashing, I get a Encoding Settings Mismatch message. See message here.
    http://homepage.mac.com/belisles/Picture.png
There's an OK button and an Update button. Not sure which to press. I've tried both and nothing happens. Still the choppy video and music.
    Thanks.

  • Preview opens multipal photos with only one selected. Suggestions to fix?

When I double click on a single photo in Preview, it opens multipal photos everytime, even though only one is selected.
Tried deleting preview permissions, but preview still opens several photos when only one is clicked.

Did you try checking this preference

  • Media browser does not show previews of raw photos

    Hello,
I use Aperture 3.4.3 and I have the following problem. If I import photos in jpg format they are immediately available in the media browser and can therefore be selected as a desktop photo via the Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane. If I import photo's in raw format, they do not appear in the media browser until I have forced Aperture to rebuild the previews. If I edit the photos without forcing Aperture to rebuild the previews they are not available in the media browser.
    Any suggestions are welcome

    1. Aperture does not generate any previews when importing jpg's, raw photo's or merging libraries even though I have selected New projects automatically generate previews and always share previews with iLife and iWork (I am importing photos into an existing project but I would expect photo previews to be updated automatically in these cases as well). My statement above that Aperture shared jpg's automatically is therefore incorrect.
This looks like your preference settings cannot be stored by Aperture. You write, that you already tried to remove the preferences. You did look in the  "Preferences" folder in your hidden User Library in your Home folder  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist and not in the System Library on your MacintoshHD  /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist, right?
Also, when removing preferences in Lion an Mt. Lion, it is best to log off and on again after quitting Aperture. Otherwise the removal may not take, because you cannot rely on a "Quit" to remove the process from the caches. Aperture simply may launch again restored from the cache, without noticing that the preferences have ben removed.
    3. If I edit the photo in Aperture after I have generated a preview (say crop it), the preview does not get updated.
That is consistent with the above.
4.You can only resolve this by forcing Aperture to generate a new preview, shutting down Aperture and then launching the preference pane.
Ths may also be related to broken Aperture preferences. The Media browser needs the preferences file to find the current Aperture library.
I like to suggest two basic tests:
Generation of previews may also fail, if your Aperture library is corrupted. Then You should have no problems with the generation of previews, when you import into a new library. Create a small new testlibrary and import a few images. Are previews generated? I not, then the problem is not dependent on your current library. If yes, you need to trouble shoot your library. Post back.
Do you have the same problem, when working from a different user account with a diffrent Aperture library? Then preferences are not a problem - you have a system wide problem and probably need to reinstall. Post back.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Using "Preview" for digital photos

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but here goes: When I use Preview for viewing digital photos, it works fine for images taken with my Sony Cyber-Shot point-and-shoot, but on photos from my son's Olympus DSLR, I get this Error message: "Preview is unable to properly display this image. The file may be corrupt. Reason: Can't cache image". When I click on OK, the photo does load just fine. The Olympus is setup to take "Fine JPEG" images, not RAW. The photos load fine when using Photoshop Elements, and if I open and save the images in Elements and override the original image, then Preview does not have any problems opening the same JPEG. Is this just the way Preview works, or is there something I can do to prevent the error messages. Are the images from my son's camera too large for Preview to open? For simple viewing of digital photos, I like Preview because it creates a preview mode with thumbnails along the side, much like it does for PDF files. By the way, I'm using Preview on both my iMac and my wife's iBook, both running OSX 10.3.9. Both have 1gig RAM. I get the error message in Preview on both computers. Thank you for any input.

    Hey Dan,
You might try going to preferences and in Images
    Default image scale
Pick: Scale large images to fit display and nothing else
Then in PDF set to scale: 50%
After you do this QUIT Preview so the changes will take effect.
I use Preview a lot, but there are times when another image viewer is needed
and I suggest you take a look at ACDsee. This is Ver. 1.6 which is the one I use with my Panther and it works great.
