HT2508 audio input 1/8-inch stereo mini plug isn't working

Apparently something has happened to my 1/8 jack imput plug. Can you tell me how much time it may take to have it repaired/trouble shot and how much to replace it?

Ok, my bad. If the input jack is 3.5mm, it needs to have a sign hanging off the side with "use only 3.5mm connectors, not 1/8."
When I plug in my guitar or microphone, I used to get the right sound. Now, it has a hissing or background noise. Did I damaget this by plugging in a 1/8 and not a 3.5mm? Do I have to take it back to Best Buy or Apple to get it looked at and how much time and money is it gonna cost?

Is your iPad Mini still within the 1 year Warranty period, and is the charger the one that came with it? If so, then you can go to any Apple Store and have the Charger replaced. It is also under the warranty.

Optical audio input to 3.5mm stereo output???

I was wondering if macbook pros can take a digital audio source (i.e. PS3) as an input and output to 3.5mm stereo to a set of analogue speakers, simultaneously.

Audio input/output problems with Mac Mini

at first, my sound just stopped working all together and for some reason the monitor was getting no signal from the mac mini. i unplugged everything for a minute and plugged it back in and the monitor was working again, but still nothing with the sound. no sound coming out from even the internal speaker, and the audio in jack (which i use frequently) stopped working as well.
this is the really strange part: after tinkering around trying to fix the problem i realized the only sound that comes out it is from the internal speaker, but it only comes out when i have something connected to the headphones jack.
has anyone ever had a problem like this? i'm just trying to figure out if it is something i can take care of myself, or if i might need some repairs done.

OK, then two things to do.
First reset parameter RAM - it's an area of non-volatile memory used for system settings and hardware configuration. It it gets corrupted, it can cause odd problems.
Reset PRAM
-Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
-Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
-Release the keys.
Next, perform an SMC reset. The SMC is the device which controls system hardware and devices, so if there is a problem with hardware components not functioning, it could be that.
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
-Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

HT4806 Get computer audio through TV and/or Stereo receiver

I connected MacMini to my TV/Monitor with HDMI cable. Now I want option to listen to audio through my stereo too so I connected a stereo mini plug to the audio output on tegh MACMINI and to stereo miniplug input on my receiver but do not get sound. Any suggestions?

HT4619 How to test the audio input port

How do you tell if the Audio in port is functioning. I have tried everything and cannot get the computer to accept audio from the external mic. or guitar.

The audio input port is line-level and will not pickup the week signal from an un-amplified mic or guitar pickup.
To test the audio input, try an iPod, stereo receiver or something that has a built in amplifier.
To use an un-amplfied mic or guitar, you will need something like a > MXL iBooster or a USB > Griffin iMic.

Why won't 'Speakable Items' Work with USB Audio Input Device (Lexicon Lambda)?

I am new to Apple Macs, yay for me!
I really want to use the 'Speakable Items' feature but unfortunately it just won't work with my Lexicon Lambda external USB Audio device.
Now, the Lambda is plugged in and working, and I know this from using the "Diction' feature which works perfectly.
When I go to System Preferences and click on accessibility>'Speakable items' and I turn on speakable items, I notice that under 'microphone' I'm unable to calibrate the microphone for some reason (if that's at all relevant).
I follow the instructions and have been asking 'what time is it?' and nothing happens
Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, using 10.8.4. I have been using Speakable Items for a long time, but it's not reacting at all anymore. I'm on a Mac Mini and have tried several inputs, that all work with dictation, and are selectable inputs for Speakable Items. Zoom H4N, Apogee Duet and an UAD Apollo. The only problem I can see, aside from something in the OS, would be that I have SoundFlower and WavTap installed. Will try uninstalling them, to see if that helps.

10.4.10 Update kills most USB audio input devices for iChatAV

I have a Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro that has a built in Mic. The UVC compliant camera still works, but under 10.4.9 the mic worked also; however, it no no longer shows up as an audio input device.
Intel Mac Mini 2GB RAM / MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Add another to the pile, slightly different: No audio support for my FIREWIRE based audio interface.
Running 10.4.10, software update installed.
OSX recognizes it, at any sample rate I want to use it at.
Sound setup, everything else (my whole entire studio) recognizes it.
iChat AV, when I go to the video tab to select "microphone" will give me default of none and then my device name (mLAN audio network). As soon as I select my device, the microphone option disappears completely. The only way to get the selection option back is to restart iChat, upon which the problem repeats itself.

Cisco 7937G - External Audio Input/Muting

When I connect an external audio source to the External Audio Input Connector (2.5mm stereo jack) are the internal microphones muted?
If this is not the case will the Mute Buttom mute the internal mics only or both the internal mics & external audio input?

I have a Powermac G5. Which port is analog audio input? I can't get my microphone to work, and I want to be sure I'm plugging it into the right place.

PowerMacs use a line level input. If you are not using a powered self amplifying microphone you will need a pre-amp. The audio in port has a circle with a triangle on either side pointing toward the center.

Dictation has No Audio Input

using 10.8.5
Dictation used to work but now there seems to be no audio input when attempting to dictate. Also wifi is working.
in SYS PREFS - sound input set to = internal mic and test level is working from here.
Q: How do I get the audio input back?

I have just tried to put my ear buds (with the iPhone Mike) in the Mac and now the dictation does work with the earbuds.When I pull out the earbuds and attempt to record from the internal mic there is no sound as audio input.
As stated – the internal mic works fine in system prefs and other apps also.
Question so how do I successfully switch back to the internal mic and get it working with dictation?

How can I record a cassette on CD? New 27 inch iMac does not have mini plug/mic input

I want to transfer music from a cassette to a CD using my new iMac but the iMac does not have a mini plug input for a mic. I understand that I need to get an adaptor to use a USB port. I bought a Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adaptor and tried to use it. All the sound came in on the left channel, the sound level was very high and could not be adjujsted down, and was very distorted. After about 5 minutes of trying to adjust, my iMac showed a dialog that said It was having a kernnel panic! I discontinued trying and returned the Syba. Can anyone recommend an adaptor that will work with the iMac and Toast Spin Doctor?

Digital Audio Optical Input S/PDIF on Mac Mini 10.9.2

For years prior, with my MMP 15", etc. and since the fall the Mac Mini (fall '13), the setup worked flawlessly ... until recently -- since around the time updating to 10.9.2 I have had intermittant issues with the digital I/O with my Apogee Rosetta 200 until it stopped all together last week.
I have replaced or swapped out the cables first off, to no improvement -- I called Apogee and we were able to prove the input to Apogee with an Eventide Esclipse's S/PDIF output.
I called Apple and the tech and I rebooted in safemode and saw the Audio Devices pane of Audio Midi Setup and Sound neither showed the digital input/output as being active. I sent the unit in and the logic board was replaced in view of the circumstances.
I just setup the repaired unit and now the S/PDIF out (from the Mini to the Rosetta) works -- the Sound pane shows that shows the functioning digital input however, and conspicuosly, the Audio/Midi does not (and used to).
Further, the S/PDIF in (from the Apogee to the Mac) is neither functioning nor the two panes, Audio devices and Sound, register the digial input.
Is there an issue with 10.9.2 or is it possible the one of the 1/8" analog/light pipe inputs of the Mac Mini is also not working and not determined/checked duri -- other ideas?

The optical digital audio input is a good way to get basic digital audio data into the Mac - assuming you have the audio in that format. Most vinyl digitizing folks do not.
The most common hardware configuration is to use your old vinyl turntable, connected to the proper phono input of a stereo (most modern stereos do not have this and you have to buy an outboard phono preamp). Then the recording (tape) output of the stereo goes to an audio interface that connects to the Mac with Firewire or USB, and not using the Mac optical input at all. There are dozens of famous makers of interfaces from a hundred dollars to thousands. For the casual user, I'd say $250 is a nice spot. You can get a stereo interface that takes analog input from your stereo, digitizes it, and send it to the Mac. It will also accept microphones, should you want. You'll need software to record and edit the audio (Audacity is free and works) and you can use iTunes to make CDs (although cumbersome).
There are interfaces that do have optical outputs that you could connect to the Mac. But since optical interfaces are rare on computers, and have many limitations, this isn't so common.
There are many tutorials on the net about digitizing LPs on computers.
