HT2509 Font Book vs Mountain Lion issue

Font Book keeps crashing as soon as it loads now that I have installed Mountain Lion. Is there a Font Book update that I need? I currently have Font Book 4.1
Using a 27" iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with wireless keyboard. Don't seem to be able to do a Safe Reboot either.

You were right; corrupt fonts. Reloaded all fonts but did not validate any with issues. Seems to be fine now.
Until I need them again, of course. Which, most probably, will be in the near future.
Thanks for your help. I will persevere with Mountain Lion until something else goes haywire. Not impressed so far.

  • Reinstalling Mountain Lion issue.

Reinstalling Mountain Lion issue. After I erased my HD and reinstalled OS (w/o file transfer from other Mac option) - opened Safari and saw my old bookmarks there already. Does that mean that reinstall didn't go correctly?

Thanks for the reply, I will try that tonight.
I'm working on this thory I found on google....
'Booting a new MacBook Pro (Late 2011) from a retail 10.6.3 disc resulted in a black screen and a repeating 3 beep pattern. This is due to missing Sandy Bridge drivers. Apple will ship a 10.6.6 (iMac) or 10.6.7 (MacBook Pro) installer disc'
My OS was the 10.6.3 that came with my iMac. I phoned Apple, they wanted me to pay £18 for 10.6.6
    Hmmmmmm!

  • Font menu in Mountain Lion´s Keyboard Viewer?

I lost track of the font menu in Mountain Lion´s Keyboard Viewer. Where did the font menu go?

    Hi,
    Do you mean this ?
That's the Character Viewer turned on in System Preferences > Language and Text  > Input source tab.

  • How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.

  • Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari's location bar, Mail's message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images.

Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari’s location bar, Mail’s message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images. Is there any solution to this problem? Also diabled the Smoothing in the SystemPrefs and also via Terminal. Font smoothing is still there. Very annoying, especially in PDF attachments in Apple Mail.

Try feeding Safari a user-defined CSS file with font-smoothing tweaks (including none). The filename and its filesystem location are arbitrary. Use your favorite coding editor.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet:
Here is an example with all elements uncommented. Pick the one that works best for your Safari viewing and comment out the others:
Preview. Try Preview > Preferences > PDF > Smooth text and line art (uncheck)

  • Arial font missing from Mountain Lion

Arial font doesn't appear in Mountain Lion, but all my spreadsheets use it.  As a result, when I open any spreadsheet, it appears blank until I change the font.  Is there any way I can fix this?  Thanks

    Arial is a built-in font.
    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • Frequent Panic Attacks for my Mac Book Pro Mountain Lion 10.8.5

    Hi All,
My mac book pro with OSX mountain lion 10.8.5 has kernel panic attacks randomly couple of times a day.
I have no idea why or when it gets trigerred. I dont have any third party drivers or extensions installed (except for  upgrading to 16gigs of memory).
I have already reimaged my hard-disk ( took a apple genius appointment and they did it for me).
    But issue persists after that.
Can anyone look at the panic report below and tell me what the issue could be ?

Yes, your MBP should support Mountain Lion. See this Apple note.

Anyone else having issues running java web apps with mountain lion? I use one for work, and it starts to launch then crashes. Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

  • Possible OSX Mountain Lion issue

I just installed OSX Mountain Lion two days ago. Today, it took my Macbook 10 minutes to boot up. Anyone else seen this?
    paige

Is this a constant issue when you turn your machine on or is it totally random?
Your profile shows you have a MacBook. Click on the Apple Logo on the top left corner of your screen and go to "About This Mac" What are the specs (processor and memory) you see there?
Click on "More Info" and go to the "Storage" tab at the top. How much free space do you have?
All in all it comes down to 1.) How much RAM or memory you have installed and 2.) If you have enough free space on your hard drive for the machine to run properly.
Once your device turns on try opening up Activity Monitor. You can Spot Light search this or get it from your utility folder in Applications. Sort the CPU % and see what is taking up the most of your CPU at the start.

  • Mountain Lion issues (Browsers & App Store)

    Hi All,
I have some issues with Mountain Lion I could use some help with. I have the issues outlined below.
    Browsers:
After installing Mountain Lion, I have noticed some issues with sites being displayed. I have 2 accounts on the macbook, one is an admin, the other has parental controls enabled. I have noticed that at least 1 website (youtube) is not displaying in any browsers (Safari, FireFox, or Chrome) using the account with parental controls. The admin account does not have this issue as the site displays fine. I have no 3rd party extensions running and nothing like APE or FruitMenu. I've done the following to troubleshoot to no avail:
cleared all cache (from the development menu)
    reset safari
    deleted safair plists
    cleared dns cache
    tried different dns IP
    App Store:
With the account with parental controls enabled, I can't log into the app store. Nothing happens when clicking "sign in" from the menu. Most of the time, I get the "can't connect to the app store" error but when it does connect, the "sign in" on the right side menu is grayed out. The admin account App Store works just fine. I have run the following to troubleshoot to no avail:
    killall storeagent
    removed appstore plists
With both issues, I have tried disabling the parental controls and that doesn't work either. It has to do with the account itself and I just can't figure out what it is. See screenshot of browser issue below, in all 3 browsers, google came up fine but youtube doesn't. One last bit of info, it's only the youtube homepage that has issues. I can get to youtube videos from a google search.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks for taking a look!

  • MB pro and Mountain lion issues

I have a late 2008 MB pro 15 in and since DL osx mountain lion, my MB pro now randomly locks up, the wifi looses connectivity, safari freezes, safar wont finish opening the page, etc What is up with mountain lion?????  When the computer freezes I have to hold down the pwr button to reboot....
In 4 years i never had an issues prior to mountain lion.

I recently upgraded my mid-2009 MB Pro 17 inch to Mountain Lion. After the upgrade I can open Dashboard but cannot access the widgets or delete unwanted widgets. In Launch Pad my grouped applications will not expand when I click on the grouping. I have reloaded Mountain Lion but the problem still exists. I also upgraded my mid-2007 iMac but everything works fine on it. What gives? I have since stopped using Dashboard and Launch Pad. More backward steps from the folks at Apple.

  • HT2509 Font Book not working correctly? or Text Edit not working correctly?

I downloaded a font onto Font Book and it works perfectly on Font Book and all the characters and symbols come up correctly, as they should. Then when I use it on Text Edit, it replaces the ', " and @ with a $ sign. What can I do to fix this, or is it unfixable? I'm using a Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I'm not sure what could be causing this situation.

It does that because that's the way the lazy person who created this font built it. Here's the layout of the font you're having trouble with:
Now compare it to the OS X supplied font Andale Mono:
Note on the third line, second from the right that Andale Mono has an @ symbol in the "at" position. The person who created the font you downloaded types a $ sign because that's what they put there, along with dozens of other glyph positions (must have really loved how they drew that $ sign). Which when you look where the quote and apostrophe are, they are also filled with the $ glyph.
The font is a piece of junk. Delete it.
