HT2513 How to use my Mac to manage "to do" lists?

MacBasics for iCal says that "New Reminder" is an option under "File".  Not on my device, it's not!
Is it possible to set up a categorized and date/time-connected "to do" list on my Mac?  (without paying $50 for the "Things" app?)
(I do not have another device, so iCloud is not an option for me.)

If the Mac connects to the Internet using a wired Ethernet connection....and....the Mac has a working wireless card installed....you might be able to configure the Mac to provide a wireless signal to the iPod.
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
Open Sharing
Click on Internet Sharing (but do not enter a check mark in the box)
Configure the Mac to Share its connection from Ethernet to devices using Wireless
Click WiFi Options to configure the name of the network, wireless channel and security if you want it.
Click OK
Enter your administrator password for the Mac
Enter a check mark next to Internet Sharing
Click Start

  • How to use my MAC configurated iPod whith my work PC

I have an ibook at home, with an extensive iTunes library, which is configurated with my color screen iPod. At work I use my iPod to interview people and the problem is that we use PC/Windows at work... and I cant upload my memos/interviews on my work PC directly, but have to upload them on my iBook and them e-mail it to my work... not nice at all.
How can configurate my iPod to be able to talk both MAC and Windows???
Please enlight me! I'm most greatfull for all suggestions.

An iPod formatted for Mac won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. You can reformat your iPod on Windows if you want to use it on both platforms as Macs can read Windows formatting (I have seen posts where Windows iPods have been reported as not connecting but these tend to be the exception to the rule). Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance: XPlay 2

Really? Want to show me that button or setting that allows that? AFAIK, System Preferences->Security->General->is where you set that when the machine sleeps or screensaver activates. Accordingly, I'm only aware of a hot corner triggering those two options and the behavior remains the same in Lion, even though the prefPane's name is slightly changed.

  • Anyone know how to use the QuickTime Component Manager

I have been reading that you can somehow enable the DV out in QuickTime to play video out via Firewire, but have had no luck. I guess by using the Quicktime Component Manager you can enable certain features and disable certain features. Does anyone have any idea on how to do this? Thanks everyone for the help.

You can send a .dv file over Firewire (back to a camera for example) using iMovie.
Maybe if your better explained your objective we could offer some suggestions.
Many third party hardware devices can also be used to move .dv files to tape drives (like a VCR) or send the signal to broadcast devices.

  • Idea about how-to using 'Agilent Wireless Test Manager' interfaces in Labview ?

    Hello everyone,
I am not sure whether it is appropriate to post this here.
Currently I got a Wireless Test Manager CD(Agilent E6560A) and is trying to convert some functionalities inside class 'cdmaTXMeasTests' into labview.
I am doing the 'code domain power testing' module with labview, which is well done in that 'cdmaTXMeasTests'.
I am wondering if any one could provide me some idea how to use that 'cdmaTXMeasTests' in my labview without rebuild the wheel.
( I am not sure whether that would work,  Are the libaries used by wireless test manager a  ActiveXDLL that could be used by labview ? Or there is some other way to do it or not?)
    Any idea is well appreciated,
    +Kunsheng Chen

    Good Afternoon Kunsheng Chen,
It seems like you are trying to port your DLL.  Rather, I would suggest using a Call Library Function Node (right-click the Block Diagram, Functions>>Connectivity>>Libraries & Executables>>Call Library Function Node).
From the Agilent website, this is a C dll so you will be able to access it using this VI in LabVIEW with no problems.  You might want to contact Agilent to see if this DLL has ActiveX components.  Alternatively, you can simply browse the list of ActiveX components on your computer.
The following links may provide some useful information for using a DLL in LabVIEW.

  • How to use the MAC Keyboard

Can anyone point me to a tutorial or posting which explains how to use the keyboard?
I have an iMac (sep2009) with a wired keyboard including numeric keypad and there are keys that I just do not know how to use
    eg:
How do I put FUNC LOCK on so that when I using Excel the F2 key becomes EDIT CELL rather than adjusting the brightness
What do the keys below the F14 and F15 keys do? There is an angled arrow up and left and ne down and right. and there is an arrow up with two lines crossing it a,d another similar one down. What are we supposed to sue these for?
Under the F16 key there is a box with a cross through it. What does that do?
WHy are F5 and F6 blank?
What does the big key on the very right bottom do?
I would have thought that there would be a MAC101 guide to the keyboard but I cannot find it... Any help from out here?
    Many thanks

I just loaded the UK Apple store and compared the keyboards to the ones at the US store. I guess since you are so "international" over there, you get pictures instead of words. My guess would be Home, End, Page Up and Page Down
Under the F16 key there is a box with a cross through it. What does that do?
Clear key for the numeric keypad.

No additional functions assigned to them.

Enter key for the numeric keypad.

I think Apple thinks based on where you live, you understand pictures instead of words. Probably cheaper to make one keyboard than ones for each language.
    Many thanks
Edit: Almost forgot. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control. A Mac (short for Macintosh) is a personal computer made by Apple.

  • How to use a Mac for broadcasting an internet radio station?

    Hi
Have been toying with the idea of starting my own internet radio station. I have a new Macbook Pro and one Macbook from 4 years ago (updated to Yosemite though), and I have been wondering if Apple itself loads any capabilities into their hardware for starting off a slick and professional sounding radio broadcast.
If one uses cloud tech, could the station be run with minimal requirements of storage etc at my end? Could iOS be a possibility if combined with other content over cloud?
    Thanks for any tips.

    Yes.
Although you will likely have much simpler and more satisfying results by having at least one of your Macs repaired, depending on which Macs you have and which Mac OS you use with them, there are at least the following possibilities:
      • Screen sharing overview
      • Allow access using Remote Desktop

  • How to use a mac laptop's built in iSight camera as an input camera on another mac laptop?

I have two laptops. The first one, Mac Air, has an excellent webcam but has a spazzy screen that I can hardly see through. The second laptop has a terrible camera but a working screen and internet connection and is just overall, a good Mac Pro. I want to use the webcam as the video input for the second laptop. For example, if I were to chat on skype, I would be looking at my friend and the skype app on the second laptop, but the first laptop would be the one recording the footage. Is that possible?

  • How to use a mac mini intel with 30" cinema display

Arg, I just bought an Apple 30" cinema display to go with my new Mac mini intel, but oops the 30" apple cinema display has to use a dual link dvi card. Anyone know how to get out of this horrible situation without buying another new computer.
    Thanks!

If you want to run the LCD at it's high 2560x1600 resolution, then you have absolutely no option whatsoever than to buy a PowerMac or MacBook Pro. Otherwise, you will be able to run the panel at 1280x800 with the Mac mini, which wouldn't make much sense though.

  • How to use a .Mac alias in the outgoing address field from iPhone?

I do not want my .Mac Apple ID showing up in the outgoing address field from my iPhone. I want to use an alias instead, just like I use in Mail. How can I use the same alias in iPhone?
The iPhone has been great once I finally got it activated...no problems synching from Outlook on my PC and Address Book and iCal on my Mac. Now all of my PC and Mac data are finally merged on my iPhone and on both computers...wish I would have saved the money I spent on two versions of MissingSync! Looking forward to some software updates...
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iPhone

If you want to setup a different REPLY TO, you have to use the OTHER shortcut when creating the mail account on the iPhone. It allows you to specify an address in the Account Information box different from your incoming and outgoing server login IDs.

  • How to use a custom Persistence Manager

I'm experimenting with implementing a custom Persistence Manager for CRX/CQ5. How the underlying implementation works is not important, the issue I'm having seems instead to be related to classloading or OSGi inside CQ5.
I've implemented a custom Persistence Manager (implements org.apache.jackrabbit.core.persistence.PersistenceManager) and a custom FileSystem (implements org.apache.jackrabbit.core.fs.FileSystem).
I've verified that both implementations function correctly with plain Apache Jackrabbit (version 2.4.0, the same version used internally by CQ5.5).
I've packaged my implementation and all its dependencies as an OSGi bundle and installed it to CQ5.5. All dependencies as resolved and the bundle status in the OSGi console is "Active".
I then followed these instructions for configuring the CQ 5.5 repository to use my PersistenceManager and FileSystem implementations:
    http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/core/administering/persistence_managers.html#The%20T ar%20Persistence%20Manager
The configuration seems to be read just fine but I get the following exception when restarting CQ:

Anyone have any idea how to get past this?
My FileSystem class most certainly does implement org.apache.jackrabbit.core.fs.FileSystem, as verified by that it works just fine with Jackrabbit.
I've also made sure that I use the exact same jackrabbit-core jar file in my bundle that is included in the com.day.crx.sling.server bundle.

I would do that, but none of the bundles in CQ5.5 export the jackrabbit-core interfaces, so I get an unsatisfied dependency (or whatever the OSGi term is) then.
So that's why I tried including it in my bundle as well.
The only place that I can see jackrabbit-core in the provided bundles is loaded internally in the Bundle Classpath of the com.day.crx.sling.server bundle.
Should I try modifying that manifest so that it gets exported?

  • Mac without CD reader: How to use remote Mac to transfer music to my library?

There must be a better way.
Have you actually tried any of my suggestions?
I am really not following your comments.  AAC files can definitely be retained.  What were these files your AAC files needed that you had to buy from Apple???
You could create a dozen differnt libraries on your husband's computer if you need to.  Make a temporary one to rip your CDs, then delete it afterward.  You make it by holding down the option key while starting iTunes.  He switches back to his by doing the same.  iTunes presents you with options to create a new library or select a different one.
I know next to nothing about AppleTV and that wasn't part of your original question.  My suggestion for Home Sharing is it is a way to transfer music files from computer to computer without using a flash drive.  If you have more files than will fit on a flash drive (or no flash drive) it is handy.

  • How to use with the "Extension Manager of Dreamweaver"

    Hi,
    I  use dreamweaverCS6.
How can I use the flash software 'swishmax4' from 'Swishnone. com' on dreamweaverCS4 through 'extension manager'.
In case of using another flash program by 'sothink.com', the extension manager created menu folder on the menubar of dreamweaverCS6 on my computer.
    And it is very convenient.
How can I extend my dreamweaver to 'swishmax4 in my computer' and create a menu folder?
    Please Help Me.
At any rate, HAVE A GOOD TIME, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, AND WITH ANYONE!

    Hi Tulrui,
I am afraid you cannot do it. "swishmax4" is NOT a ZXP or MXP file and it cannot be supported by Extension Manager. It has its own installer, and install the contents to Dreamweaver without Extension Manager, so Extension Manager cannot handle that. You can consult "Swishnone.com" to check if they can provide ZXP extension "swishmax4" for Dreamweaver CS6. Thanks.

  • Are there any apps for the macbook pro that will teach a 4 year old how to use a mac?

I want to gove my old macbook to my daughter and get her started. does anyone know if there is an app that will walk a child through thir first mac experience and teach them how to operate it?

This doesn't really answer your question, but children find tablets much easier to use than traditional computers. Even children much younger than your daughter are surprisingly adept with them, and they usually don't need to be taught.
