Hi,
In an AIM Buddy list.
Go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and then the specific account > Security tab
In here select Block specific People and add the Screen name of the person you want to block.
If Jabber (Googletalk, Facebook or other) and if they are already in your Buddy List then Right click them to Remove them or use the Buddies Menu and De-Authorise them.
Basically AIM allows anyone to "call" your Screen name and only the Block or the restricted Allow options are the way to control who can contact you.
With Jabber they can Invite you to be a Buddy but if they are not Authorised (and then in the list) they cannot send you messages.

I am currently working on a MacBook Pro connected by Wi-Fi or Blue Tooth to my 16GB iPhone 4S; and supposedly to iCloud. I install every upgrade on each computer till the computer can take no more. My current MacBook Pro continues to accept upgrades.
I have been dealing with Address Book foibles since it first came out and the problems seem to get worse rather than resolved.
Problem #1: When a Company Name is checked to take precedence over a personal name the record/file does not surface during searches. This has happened for years on all my Macs, including most recently my MacBook Pro and its predecessor PowerBook G4. How do I fix this?
Problem #2: The Printing Defaults for Address Book Files are not useful and I can find no way to change them to my own preferences once and for all. I must reset them for every file every time I choose to print a file. Is there some way to set the defaults to MY preferences and only occasionally reset them according to my needs?
Problem #3: When entering information in "Notes" the cursor randomly and spontaneously goes to line one space one as I am entering information. How do I stop this? Then when I cut and paste the misplaced text to where it belongs it may or may not return to once again begin at line one space one and following.
Problem #4: When Printing a Record/File from Address Book I would like to use the whole 8.5" x 11" page. Instead it prints on an 8.5" x 11" page in three columns. Is there a way to format the output? I have not found one and the Mac 'Geniuses' do not know of any.
Problem #5: Subsequent to one of the upgrades in the last year or so, the search feature does not work. (I have had this computer since May 2011). No matter what I type in the search line I am stuck in the 'All' Directory. To find anyone or anything I must scroll through the address book manually. Is there a fix to this?
Problem #6: Sometimes, when I try to sync my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, the records simply duplicate. How d I undo this without manually deleting the duplicates?
Problem #7: Does anyone know of a third party Address-Book-type App that is better than the Apple version and can easily import over 3000 contacts information?

One thing to check: when shutting down or restarting, there is a checkbox in the shutdown/restart dialog which asks whether you want currently open applications to open at startup.

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. I was unable to delete a book sample from my iPhone 5s running iOS 7. This seems to be what worked for me. I went to the Library and clicked "edit" in upper right side of the screen. I then tapped one time on the book I wanted to remove and a blue check appeared at the bottom right corner of that book (presumably you could tap several at a time) Anyway, when the blue check is on the book, you will see in the upper left of the screen the word "Delete" (mine was in red) I clicked that and then a confirming dialog came up from the bottom of the screen with the choices of "delete" or "cancel". I chose "delete" and the book was gone. Hope this helps.

How old was this backup? It sounds like it was at least several weeks old.
You can look directly in the TM backup for the music.
1. Connect to the external HDD the backup is kept on.
2. Open a Finder window and select the backup drive in the left hand panel. Double click into the folders until you see a list of folders with dates.
These are the incremental backups. You can start at the top or the bottom of the list but I suggest you double Latest/<HDD Name>/Users/<Account Name>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. From this location you can start looking for the "missing" music. When/if you find it you can simply drag-n-drop to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music on the internal HDD.
If the music is actually not in the backups (for whatever reason) then you've got a problem.
You can download the uploaded files from the cloud by deleting the affected tracks from the iTunes library (but not the cloud!), highlighting multiple tracks at once, right-clicking and choosing "download."

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

And I agree. But neither of us is a programming engineer at Apple, and so don't get to make those decisions. The user tip I wrote was based on the fact I didn't like it either, and was trying to figure out why it was scaling an image up in the first place, and then how to fix it as best as possible.
Since you've locked your iPad to one orientation, you should be able to copy your custom image off to your Mac (assuming you own one) and use an image editor, such as Photoshop Elements, to add pixel area to the narrow dimension to make it the same number of pixels as the larger dimension. Increase the canvas size so the extra space leaves the original narrower dimension centered, as in this example:
Copy it back to your iPad and select the modified image. Since it's square, it shouldn't scale.

I have found if you iTunes open while importing photos to iPhoto it will quit unexpectedly - try closing iTunes. Also, try selecting and importing 100 or fewer photos per import...seems like it quits more often when trying to transfer large quantities (like over 200 photos).
I wish Apple would update iPhoto with the same auto-sync feature in iTunes so I could sync photo libraries between computers without trying to figure out which ones are new (although as of this posting the other option is purchasing a 3d party photo sync program).
