HT2515 iChat - can't find! Concern?

Hi guys! So I just got a brand new macbook pro today, & I can't find iChat on the starter applications (only messages, which doesn't work for gmail). I had iChat on my old laptop, which was running the snow leopard software instead. How come? Is it impossible to get iChat on the newer MacBook Pros now? Or does it just not start out with it?

Hi,
Messages is the App.
It is iChat+ (The plus bit being the iMessages Account that can use an Apple ID with iPhones and iPads).
It can use a GoogleTalk ID.

  • IChat can't find built in iSight on 1 week old iMac

The iChat video preference pane on this 1 week old iMac, reads "This computer does not support video chat".
It can find the built in iSight in other software (Photo Booth, iMovie, Skype), but not in iChat.
It worked perfectly 5 days ago.
The only thing that's changed is that I updated my software using "Software Update".
Can any one help me get iChat video to work? Please help.

    Hi,
The Bandwidth Limit drop down should not be greyed out.
I can think of two possibilities.
    1) Parental Controls is On for this Mac User Account (but I have never heard of this effecting the Bandwidth Limit).
    2) iChat is unable to or has Misread the Internet speed you have.
In the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) what does it say about the Network Status and Capabilities about Internet Speed ?
    I would delete com.apple.ichat.plist
This file in in Your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
Restart iChat afterwards to re-write the .plist
It will also get iChat to check for the camera And the Internet Speed.
Unfortunately deleting this .plist means you may have to reset an Preferences in iChat that you have changed from Default.

  • Help!!  My kid was on iChat - can I find a copy of the chat??

If a Chat is not saved before the chat ends on 3.1.8 (v445), is there a copy of the chat on the computer?
    Thanks for a quick response.

    Hi
When doing a text chat, you can save it by going into iChat>Preferences>Messages & clicking the box next to 'Automatically save chat transcripts'. To access it, click Open Folder & double-click teh chat you want to see. If it's a video chat you're referring to, then I don't know.

  • IChat Can't Find Server

I am using iChat (AIM) and can not get it to log in. I have tried every trick including the port number change to 443 and erasing the com.ichat.whatever file and nothing is working.

    Any suggestions?

same here, i am having the same problem. i try to sign on and it immediately kicks me off every time. i trued doing the port change and that does nothing.

WordPress is in a class of it's own.  It began it's open source life as a blogging system but it has evolved into a powerful, feature-rich CMS (content management system).  In short, if you elect to use WordPress on your domain, you might just as well use it for your entire web site.
To work with WordPress, you will need a firm understanding of HTML, CSS and how PHP includes work.
WP requires you to set-up a dynamic work environment (see links below)

  • Can't find Accounts in iChat Preferences

I configured iChat to Jabber, Bon Jour and AIM a while ago... But I'm unable to change the jabber settings... When I click on iChat->Preferences, I only see a "General" tab, but can't find "Accounts" anywhere... I also can't figure out how I could reinstall iChat.
    Help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The button on the left of the Toolbar in iChat 3 does not appear that Defcom talks about. (it is there in iChat 2)
    You need to delete:
com.apple.ichat.plist to get the full quota of Preference icons back.
The .plist is found in ~/Library/Preferences ("~" equals your Home Folder (Little House icon in a Finder window)
Restart iChat after you have deleted the .plist

If you have tried every relevant suggestion from How to Troubleshoot iSight but your camera is still not recognized anywhere in your System Profiler's USB Device Tree, you likely have a hardware problem.
Properly applying the Combo version of the latest update for your Mac OS can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  For hardware help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service on your MacBook Air.

  • Where can I find iChat on my Mac Air?

Looks like it should be on here - I just can't find it to put it in my dock.  Thoughts?

If your MBA is using Mountain Lion iChat is now part of Messages which is on your Dock and in your Applications folder.

    Hi,
Go to the Finder's Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences
This will open the Preferences in the Home Folder's Library.
In Lion this Library is Hidden and you cannot Click you way there.
Delete the com.apple.ichat.plist and it's associated .lockfile  (Drag to Trash>
    Restart iChat.
I am presuming Lion from what you say despite your specs saying Snow Leopard.

    HI,
I can be more precise if I know which version of the OS you have.
A long post covering several options.
The basic " I have lost iChat from my Applicatiosn Folder and want to have it again" is covered by this post.
You don't have to have an ID or Screen Name to use in iChat at this time.  (you will need one to use the app)
The OS also tends to have names for the major upgrades.
OS X 10.4 is known as Leopard.
OS X 10.3 is known as Tiger.
Following on from Leopard was Snow Leopard or OS X 10.5
These versions came on DVDs to install or in some cases reinstall the OS on to the Hard Drive (or another backup hard drive).
Here is a pic of part of my Desktop with a DVD inserted and the window for it opened to reveal the Optional Installs.mpkg
The top three items around the green text indicate it cannot be installed on this Hard Drive/Computer.
The red arrows indicate the Disk on the Desktop and the window.
The Blue is the item you are looking for.  it is a special item called Package and double clicking it will open the Installer app.
If you use the Apple icon menu and then the About this Mac item in there you will see the currect OS level you have installed.
(I screen Shared to my MacBook Pro that is running Snow Leopard (OS X10.6.x) to take this shot)
If this space OS X 10.7 (or a sub-number after that) then it is running Lion.
This does not use a Disk to Reinstall but the Recovery process.
    Same for later versions (Mountain Lion/OS X 10.8.x and now Mavericks/OS X 10.9)
Using the Recovery Process will give the latest update version of that OS.
That is to say Mountain Lion for instance gets as far as OS X 10.8.6 before Mavericks came out.
With the disk method above you get stuck at the disk level and may have Updated since then.
Like the pic with OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). You disk may only be at OS X 10.6 base level
Both the OS and the iChat versions have been updated since then.
The Optional Installs package will give you iChat at version 5.0 in this case.
However as it will have been updated along with the OS it will not work with the OS at 10.6.8 unless you run the COMBO version of the Update to update iChat to "Match" the OS level.
At OS 10.6.8 then iChat 5 has got to version 5.0.3
