  • Problem locating files after migration from PC to Mac

I have just migrated files from my PC to my Mac.  I have logged into the new user account but I finder is telling me there are no files located in the new user.
It also doesnt appear that a "user" folder has been created for the new user which may be the problem.
    Thanks

Depending on how you migrated the files, your 'old' Windows account should have been created on your MBP.
How did you migrate the files? Using Migration Assitant? Mac or PC version?

Hi, I migrated from PC to Mac, but I can't find some files I had in the PC, this files were invisible because I had them as hidden but just before migrating I switched off the "hidden" option, ¿Does this files migrated as hidden files or they didn't migrated?

If the filename starts with a dot (.thisfile), then it will be hidden on the Mac.
You can use a 3rd party App, such as EasyFind to search for the file on your Mac, and then re-name (remove the dot)

  • I Photo will not update after migrating from old I-Mac to new I-Mac with fusion drive

I just migrated from 2009 I-Mac with Mountain Lion to New I-Mac with Mountain Lion with migration Assistant. Now... I tunes will not update although Apple says one is available

a couple of things - you should not "migrate" applications - you should use the new ones that come preinstalled - what version of of iPhoto do you have on your new mac?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

  • PSE12: How do I migrate from Windows to Mac

    I bought
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Student and Teacher Edition
    and
Adobe Premiere Elements 12 Student and Teacher Edition
    for my daughter.
She has migrated from PC to Mac. How can I get the Mac versions of these softs?
From my downloading, I can only see Windows installers (exe and 7z files)

Contact Adobe to see if this is possible. There is no guarantee that any software is portable, and I feel the student edition may not be, but Adobe will have the final say.

  • Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Hi, hopefully you guys can help me out, I just
purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,
and now i'm more or less completely os x dependant
(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I
    have a few questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
    2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
    iChat works well.
    3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.
    No idea.
    4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
    after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
    5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
    as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.
    Thank you for any help,
    -Evan

  • When migrating from PC to Mac is it necessary to restore iPad to factory settings?

    Hi everyone!
I recently decided to migrate from PC to Mac. Everything is amazingly easy now. I have already migrated my iTunes Library with no hassle and I am very pleased with my decision. I had no problem either with my iPhone nor my iPod but with my iPad, thats a different story.
I just have one unsolved problem relative to the backup that iTunes performs each time I sync it with my Mac. It takes hours and somewhere near the end iTunes tells me it was not possible to backup. So if I want to sync I must skip the backup process but I know that's too risky. I can't even upgrade the iOS on my iPad because of the backup issue.
I have read in some other forums that maybe this is because when I bought my iPad it was formatted to sync with PC and restoring factory settings would solve the problem.
Is there any other way to solve this? Because I have a lot of information that comes from inApp dowloads and I would like to skip long hours of re-downloading my content.
    Thanks!

There is no Windoze and OS X formatting with an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
The problem is with your existing backup.
At the iTunes menu bar go to iTunes > Preferences.
Under the Devices tab select and delete the existing iPad backup.
Control-click on your iPad under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to create a new backup.

  • When using the migrate tool to migrate from windows to mac, can you use ethernet to connect the computers to each other?

When using the migrate tool to migrate from windows to mac, can you use ethernet to connect the computers to each other? In the Migration tool, I was only given the option of choosing the computer when it appeared on the same network, and didn't see an option to connect them to each other. Even though they're both connected to the same network with a wired connection, the migration is painfully slow.

Yes. The following quotation is from About Windows Migration Assistant
These are the preferred network connections, in order:
Use a CAT6-certified Ethernet cable that is in good condition to connect the Ethernet port of the PC directly to the Ethernet port of the Mac or Ethernet adaptor (USB or Thunderbolt). You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
Use CAT6-certified Ethernet cables that are in good condition to connect the Mac and PC to your home network router/hub/switch. You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
For wireless, use the fastest wireless signal possible (802.11n 5Ghz). Try to have the PC, Mac, and the wireless access point all in the same room close to each other.

  • Migration from 350 G4 Mac

I have just gotten a new MacBook Pro and I need to migrate from my previous Mac. I have a 350MHz G4 Mac running 10.3.9. It has firewire but when I reboot holding down the T key (as instructed by the migration assistant) it just boots normally. When I look for rebooting as a target disk it doesn't give me that option. What am I missing? Or is it just that my old Mac is just a dinosaur? What are my options?
    Thanks

Start with Best Practices If the G4 won't go into TDM (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661 for details), then use Disk Utility, restore it to an external FireWire HD, and use it instead.

  • How do i speed up my migration from my old mac to the new one?

How do i speed up my migration from my old mac to the new one?

what method are you using? Firewire, ethernet, wireless?  I'm assuming you are doing this via Migration Assistant.  You can't speed it up if it is in process, but you can use a faster method if available to you.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4413

  • Why does it take me so long time to migrate from my old Mac

Why does it take me so long time to migrate from my old Mac?
I just bought a new MacBook Air and using an ethernet cable to migrate all material from my old MacBook Pro, it has now taken med 4 days
and still not done? What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for that gbrenik.
Don't really wanna start reloading all of Lion, but read somewhere that I should start the migration by restarting my source Mac by holding down T during startup, that would do the trick. Is this what I  have done wrong?

  • In lr4 where/how to rename files if loaded from folder already on hard drive?

Files imported from a card reader can be renamed upon import but where/how to rename files added from a folder already on the hard drive? Also, how to rename files so as to not have gaps in the number sequence once the "rejects" have been deleted? Thanks.

Yes and yes.  And, using it with the new shoot name renamed the files perfectly!
There is even a "original number suffix" so if you don't like IMG_4501 and prefer DSC_4501 you can pull the 4501 (the suffix) and replace the first three characters.
So, in one operation SFO-shoot-(IMG_4501).NEF could become Wine-country-shoot-(IMG_4501).NEF or even Wine-country-shoot-(4501).NEF if you prefer.  Powerful.
Thank you Rikk and Adobe! Chris R
