It happens on Mac App Store & iPhone App store as well.
So clearly the problem is on my Apple ID..
I've changed my credit card details on my Apple ID but it doesn't reflect onto my phone when I login after restarting the phone. Even if i sign out.

If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

You definitely can.
To remove your payment information open iTunes and go into your account. An easy way to access your account is from quick links on the store home page. After you login there will be a payment type listed with an edit button next to it. Click edit then select none under card type (next to visa, mastercard, etc).
Afterwards at the bottom of the page select done, then your card will no longer be on file. It will prompt you for a card next time you try to download something that isn't free.

Had you never backed up the phone before? When you saw the iTunes logo and cable, the device was in recovery mode. The data was already lost. The only way to recover from that is to restore the device, which will delete all of your data. You will only be able to restore to your last backup, whenever that was. Sorry this happened, but this highlights the importance of doing regular backups. The backup is the only protection you have against a problem like this.

How do I remove my credit card details from my Apple Account? I do not like the fact that Apple does not provide a clear and simple option to 'Delete a payment card', I definitely do not think this is legal.
I ask this question because I recently received a spam-like message from Apple asking me to log in and update my account. I went in and did that, but I would like to remove credit card details from the account and it is horribly stubborn about holding onto my credit card details.

Thankyou for the latter responses from ssschmidt and limnos - as it happens I figured this out by myself. Yes, it appears that Apple will not let you delete an account UNTIL YOU HAVE VALIDATED THE CARD DETAILS. That it, until you have given them all of your credit card details - even down to the 3 digit validation number. Only once you have provided this information does the 'Payment type - NONE' appear.
I figure however, that you can just put any 3 digits in, ie, it doesn't need to be your actual 3 pin code, for the system to let you pass to the NONE option.
As I said before, I still think this ***** the big one. Apple should not be insisting on getting customers' bank details in this way - especially since there are these PHISHING emails floating around which look extremely like official Apple communications. It was the receipt of one such email that alerted me to this issue in the first place - thanks Limnos, I didn't respond :-)
This is the first time I've used this 'user to user' set up for a query like this, and I totally think it's ridiculous. This information should be readily available from Apple - no wonder their profit levels are so astromical!

In other words, it won't charge your credit card until the money runs out. When the money runs out it will go back to charging the credit card.

First report your lost credit card to your credit card issuer. In the ITunes Store, go to Account Information Edit Payment History and click None where it asks for your Payment Type. That should definitely hide information. I think it will delete it but at least know one will be able to see it. Don't panic...they still need your Apple Password and ID to get into the store to enable purchases. Phone Apple to report your lost card for extra protection. I'm sorry that you're having trouble updating your payment details. You can only remove credit card information if you used that card to purchase a perpetual product (one that you purchase outright). If the card was used to purchase a subscription, it's necessary to Contact Customer Care to have that information removed. It's also necessary to contact Customer Care if you want to cancel an Acrobat subscription. What happened when you contacted Customer Care?
