It's in the article. You must first sign-out your current account, then go to App store to purchase a Free App. It will ask you to either Sign in or create a new AppleID. That's when you start creating a new AppleaID and NONE will be available as a payment option.

then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store (you should be able to remove credit card details after entering them).

Is the only way to get a software update through the Apple Store where you have to give a credit card? I thought system updates are free. I don't want to leave a credit card number with Apple.

To remove the card's details from your iTunes account, tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account - on your account's page there should be a payments link. Or you can do it via your computer's iTunes : go into the Store > View Account menu option and log into your account, and on your account's details click on the payment details link.

What happens when you try to buy something ? If you are trying to gift content then you will need to have a credit card on your account, your balance can't be used for gifting ; if you are trying to buy for yourself and you have a credit card on your account then its details need to be correct and complete - but your balance should be charged for the purchase. -
None of the apps are worked once the music from iTunes was synced to the ipad
Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

I do not own a credit card of any source, and i am unable to create an Apple ID, to use on my IPod to download FREE apps, because i do not have a valid payment method. there is no option of "None", to use as a payment method.
Follow these instructions for creating a NEW ID/account. You have to use an email address that you have not previously used with Apple and follow the instructions exactly;y.

This is the official answer from Apple.
"When you update your billing information (in this case when you filed your credit card), the iTunes Store will place an authorization hold on your credit card to verify your account information. You might see this authorization request on your online statement.
Don't worry, this is not an actual charge, it is simply a test to confirm that your credit card account is active and has credit available to accommodate transactions."

Why do I have to give my Cred card info to download a free update?
Looks like I have to goto Apple store to get downloads, and apple store requires me to put in a valid credit card?? I don't want info stored with any company. I only wish to put it in if/when I purchase something.

My bank contacted me to check on unusual purchases following my iTunes purchases this morning. I have never had my credit card details hacked before and I do a lot of purchases online. Following me giving iTunes my credit card details someone made a purchase to Air Egypt and UAE. Fortunately my bank contacted me before more purchases were made.
