Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.

Same thing happened to me today. I wasn't even using the phone for the past 6 hours and suddenly I can't connect to the internet, none of my internet apps would work - nothing. I tried to call AT&T from the iphone and it locked up - couldn't turn it off, change to the home screen - nada - brick.
Did the Home/Power button thing and that worked but this I've only had this phone for about 4 weeks and it's locked up more times than my 3GS did the whole two years I had it! Ridiculous

Ipod is now in the top right corner, last time I clicked on it, it ejected it but by clicking on the actual ipod icon then it brings up your ipod. I restored it to factory settings and synced all my music and it now works again. Hope this can help anyone who ends up with the same problem.

Can any one tell me why I have photos on my iPhone, iPad, but not my PC? The photos are in my photo stream, but they don't automatically go into the folder. I've had to put them in there, so they obviously aren't linked up to the other devices.

Can anyone tell me why my PC doesn't automatically update with my photos. I' m pretty sure I have all the right setting on. When I go to iPhoto's there's nothing there. I have my photo stream folder with pictures I have had to transfer in. The photos don't show on my PC and my recently acquired iPad. Only on the original iPhone device.

This behavior is normal. Since photos in anything other than the camera roll had to come from your computer, you can not sync them from the phone to the computer. In addition, the photos on the phone are not stored at their original resolution, but are optimized for the display of the phone.
You eill either need to restore from the backup you made of your computer before you re-formatted it, or you will need to invest in 3rd party software to extract the low res photos from the phone.

New iMac. Partitioning 1Tb w/o reinstalling using Boot Camp?

I'm about to setup my new 27" iMac but would like to partition the drive. I assume I could just put in the install DVD and reboot, use Disk Utility to partition and then go through the restore steps. Personally, I'd to avoid this so I can get to playing asap. Can I just use Boot Camp to partition the drive then "cheat" and use Disk Utility to reformat so it's not a "Boot Camp" partition, per se?

Not exactly true. The system partition has multiple writes to it by multiple programs for multiple different reasons. If you are, for example, capturing video, any number of programs may write to the disk at the same time. Though OS X is fairly intelligent with respect to disk use, I have witnessed on multiple occasions where a small file was written right in the middle of multi-gig file (video capture, for example). It's just the reality of the situation. It doesn't mean the OS did anything wrong, it just didn't know how large the final file would be. A second partition has a far lower chance of a random file being written to it while a data dump is being performed.
Plus, it guarantees longer seek times, as accessing one partition, then the other, always requires a certain amount of movement.
True, but a file of sufficient size written contiguously can quickly offset the minute seek times of modern drive heads.

No, but a proper defrag often requires rebooting from a non-system partition to free up all system resources (metadata, etc). iDefrag is a perfect example.
That's rarely true on OSX. Usually the only reason is for multiple boot partitions.
I don't see how you can say this with a straight face. If I see multiple reasons, there are, by definition, multiple reasons. I said nothing about rarity, only that there is more than one reason for multiple partitions.
For future reference, Disk Utility would have worked fine for this purpose.

I have tried restarting the PMU. And I have tried unplugging the ac adaptor and removing the battery. From there I have plugged only the ac adaptor in, and it will begin to start but do the same thing once it shows the blue screen.
I tried only using the battery (without plugging in the ac adaptor) and the same thing happens. I tried starting the computer while holding down CTRL, Option, P, and R, waiting to hear the start up chimes 3 times, and then holding Shift as it starts up. But I still get the black screen once I see the blue one, and the computer's sleep light pulses.
I need something very important from this computer. And was able to start it last night. I did not shut down the computer, and was going to take it to a friends to use his printer today. The computer was in sleep mode in the morning.

What your describing could be a logic board or memory issue.
You did or did not hear 3 startup chimes? If you hear 3 chimes when you start it, that would indicate a memory problem. Try reseating the memory to see if that makes a difference. If you have 2 RAM cards, try one then the other in each slot. If you have 1 RAM card, move it to the other slot. Powerbooks can develop one bad slot.
You may need to pull the hard drive out of the Powerbook, put it into an external case, then read it from another mac.

Why packets are being translated by one route-map and not the other?

I have 2 NAT rules, each with a route-map to determine which packets are translated. What I don't understand is how to control which NAT rule is applied first..?
In my config, the first of the following rules is applied first, and then the other. I would like to have it the other way round, the second being applied first, and the first being applied second.

The reason why I want it this way round is because the first rule NAT's almost everything so that I can access the Internet. The second rule NAT's specific traffic to a different address.
If I want traffic to be NATTED according to the second rule, I have to deny traffic in the first associated ACL, and permit it in the second ACL. That means I basically have to configure each ACL each time I want packets to be matched by the second NAT rule - there must be a better way of doing it!!!
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello, here's the basic (shortened list). If I want packets to be matched by NAT_RADIANZ_PIXACCESS_ACL I have to put a deny in NAT_INTERNET_ACCESS_ACL. If I could make sure that the first list is used first, and then anything left over compared against the second, then it would make life/editing much easier...

You can leave the existing RAM in their current slots and add compatible modules in the empty slots. For best performance, add two of teh same size. Our 2010 iMac 21" shipped with 4GB RAM---two 2GB modules in two of the four slots. I added two 2GB modules to the empty slots and now have 8 GB RAM.
Be sure to order RAM from a trusted Mac-savvy RAM vendor. Some vendors thing a Mac is a hamburger. For over a decade I've bought all our Mac RAM (and we have 18 Macs in teh family!) from one vendor:

It should be like the very first time you synced your phone with I-Tunes. It will notice you haven't synced before and just copy everything from your phone into I-Tunes. It shouldn't delete anything from the phone, at least it never has for me. It just puts a copy of everything into I-Tunes and even if you delete an app for example from your phone and you decide you want it back later, you can just go back into I-Tunes and copy it back over. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately that is not all that uncommon for the Early Intel iMac's given there age and the fact that the air intakes are probably choked with dust. Then add the extra heat caused by running a more intense OS X which is causing it to run a little warmer than normal and putting extra stress on the graphic and display components.
My 6½ year old 17" Early 2006 Core Duo w/2GB of RAM is also running 10.6.8 and is also starting to get a single line that (knock on wood) goes away after a few minutes, while many others started getting permanent ones after 2 or 3 years. One thing that I think has helped, is that about every 3 or 4 months I shutdown and vigorously vacuum out the bottom grill work and small vent under the stand to keep it running cool.
On that note: unfortunately I can only suggest that you clean your intake vents and hope that no permanent or irreversible damage has been done.

Recovery partition now has Mavericks as OS. Im running a iMac i3 27 inch circa 2011. Any ideas? Can still bootcamp into windows.

The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .
