HT2584 30" Cinema Displays - Running 2

Hi there
I have a Mac Pro 2.93 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - (4GB-1066 Mhz -DDR3)
Serial Number: J59######4MF
I wish to run 2 - 30" Cinema Displays from my machine - which Graphics Card do I need to order to do  the job successfully?
Many thanks
Geoffrey
<Serial Number Edited by Host>

I have a 2010 powermac g5. I have a 30" cinema display. I also have a 42" sony flat screen from 2005-2006 that I have been using as my second monitor. I have the monitor connected via Mini DisplayPort to DVI using a apple adaptor. RecentlyI have been experiencing problems on my flat screen TV. There seems to be a doubling effect along with TV snow on the screen. I tried changing resolutions and nothing happened as well as buying a new adapter.
I know currently I have a Nividia GeForce GT 120 graphics card. Do I need to update the drivers or ge a better graphocs card. By me running dual screens, ( a 30" display and a large flat screen ) is it pushing the card too hard of sorts?  Please help !!!
Thank you for any suggestions!

  • Is my Cinema Display running in 32-bit color mode?

I'm calibrating my Cinema Display and have read that I should check to see that it is running in full 24- or 32-bit color mode. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Thanks.

Open the Displays pane of System Preferences. If you're given the option to change the monitor's bitdepth, choose at least millions of colors.

  • 30" Cinema Display running HOT

I have two 30" cinema displays thru a ATI Radeon X1900 XT into a MacPro. Display 1 into monitor port 1 on the MacPro. The monitor is hot (physically) compared 2nd Monitor. Sound familiar?

Did you install the nvidia binary drivers? You'll definitely need to....
Besides that, I think I had to override the refresh rates rates. You can tell if this is necessary by looking at the /var/log/x* log file - see if its tossing out 2560x1600 due to bad refresh rates - if so, set vert to 60hz and increase the horizontal until it stops kicking out the modes.

  • Problem w/ two 27" LED Cinema Displays on ATI 5770 MacPro

Attempting to connect a second display to a mid 2010 Mac Pro. There are two mini-ports + a DVI on the 5770 card. Currently I have a single 27" LED connected using one of the mini ports. The computer isn't recognizing the second monitor in the other mini port. I used to have an older 24" LCD Cinema display running successfully, using the DVI port on card with a powered adapter. That configuration isn't doable with a newer 27" given the output from it (not the older style video cabling, but rather the mini display port. Would appreciate any suggestions on how to get the two 27" monitors running together.

Hey turbostar, finally a chance to get back to you, sorry about the delay.
I had already tried both ports with no success on the second monitor, but when I moved the primary monitor to the second port and it worked... it it got me to thinking maybe the power outlet was bad if not the monitor itself. Indeed that was the issue. The second monitor was plugged into a power strip in which one of the six outlets on it was not working. Replaced the surge power strip with a new one and all is good.
Thank you for your time and help.

  • Apple Cinema Display 23" brightness issue while using with Microsoft Vista

    Hello there,
I have the following issue and was wondering if someone has an idea what the reason is or what can I do to fix this:
I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display running with a MacPro 2,8 GHz. When I switch to PC using BootCamp 2.1 with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 32bit the screen becomes extremely dark.
At first, on the PC side, the display has the correct brightness but after two seconds it switches to a very low brightness setting.
When I go back to the Mac side the brightness setting on my Cinema Display has changed to the lowest point.
I also have a MacBookPro, with Microsoft XP installed also using BootCamp (I cannot find the version of this Boot Camp, but it is an earlier version) to change to PC. In XP, there is a driver installed that allows me to use a slider on the PC to control the monitor brightness. But with Vista this slider is nonexistent.
I already tried changing the graphic's card NVIDIA 8800 driver to see if I can manipulate the brightness on the monitor. I realized there is brigthness slider on the Nvidia driver, but when you make brighter, the colors just get messed up, and the brightness stays as dark as before.
We have lately upgraded to Snow Leopard and had installed Spyder on the Mac side to create a monitor profile for the Cinema Display. I already deleted the profile to see if there is a change. Nothing. I already went back in time on my PC (Restore Point), also nothing.
Could I download a driver for Vista, so that I have a brightness slider on the PC side, so that I can adequately change the brightness to its correct setting.
It is amazing how the lack of correct brightness in a monitor, can ruin your entire working day! Very frustrating!
It would be greatly appreciated if someone has a solution for this issue! Thanks a lot!
    Emil

Okay, I came across a thread that implies there is a problem with using the Apple ADC-to-DVI adapter to attach the older "acrylic" 23" Cinema Display to a Mac Pro DVI graphics card. Basically, the workaround is to NOT use the USB part of the adapter (disconnect it).
    1) In OS X, set the desired display brightness.
    2) Disconnect the USB cable coming from the converter to the Mac.
    3) Restart into Windows.
The brightness setting should now remain as it was under OS X.
Confirmed to work on my Mac Pro v1,1 (dual 2.66 Core 2 Duo) with nVidia GeForce 7300 GT video card running Windows 7 x64.

Of course, you lose the functionality of the 2-port built-in USB hub in the Cinema Display, but an external USB hub can make up for that.

  • MBA, 24" Cinema Display, & USB Ethernet Adaptor

I'm considering getting a MBA, however, I don't want to have to run it on wireless at home. Will the built in USB hub in the 24" Cinema Display run the SuperDrive and the USB Ethernet Adaptor?

    SuperDrive
Probably not. That drive requires more power than a regular USB 2.0 port supplies and isn't compatible with other Mac models.
    USB Ethernet Adaptor
    Yes.

  • Help needed with gray washed-out looking text on 23HD Cinema Display

My 23 inch HD Cinema Display running on an ATI X800 is plenty capable of displaying nice deep dark blacks in graphics and photos, but text on screen seems to me to be very gray or washed out, even "thin" looking. I've set my color preference for high gamma, but while a bit better still no joy. I have the brightness 4 full clicks down from full (and it's still plenty bright)...
Is this normal for this screen or are there steps I could take for better appearing text without messing up graphic & photo elements?
Sorry if this has been asked & answered before; a quick search here didn't turn up any good matches.

Launch the "Digital Color Meter", set the aperture size to 1 pixel and drag your cursor over some text. You will see that text is not displayed in "pure black" but in shades of grey with a lot of colored highlights. In order to get the best performance out of your display, you really need to calibrate it. There are a lot of "shades of grey" between black and white. For the very best results, you need to use a colorimeter. The Spyder2 for example, runs through the entire range of greys as well as RG&B. After using one of these or a similar unit, you will be much happier with your display in general and specifically, in it's ability to display text. You might get OK results using OS X's "expert mode" calibration tool but it's much more subjective and therefore not nearly as accurate.

  • Cannot get my 30" cinema display to come on after power outage

I have a 30" cinema display running with my 2010 mac pro...all was fine, then we had a power outage last night. When I started the computer the next morning, computer came on but no monitor. So I took the display to apple store and they started on a mac book pro , no problem. When I went home and hooked everything back up to my mac pro, the 30" display will not work but a 20" cinema display I have did. Very confusing
    Please help if anyone can
    thanks

The 30" cinema display has a cable that accepts inputs from its custom power brick, a Dual-Link DVI, a USB-2, and a FireWire-400.
For a Silver Tower Mac Pro, you must connect the power and Dual-Link DVI.
USB is needed by the display (for Brightness and possibly other controls from the Mac), and to run the convenience USB ports if desired.
NB> Keyboards connected through the USB hub on the display cannot generate "snag key" codes early enough to be used at Startup. If you need to Option-Boot, you will need to plug your keyboard directly into a USB on the chassis.
You need not connect FireWire unless you wish to use the hub and convenience ports on the display. It may require a FireWire 800 to 400 cable or adapter. (The adapter is good to place permanently, and its length (short) is good. For any other use, these adapters seem to "grow legs and walk away", so an adapter cable is superior.

  • What are the video card requirements for running a 23" cinema display

What are the video card requirements for running a 22" cinema display(clear acrylic case) w/ a PC? My motherbaord is AGP. Thanks to anyone who can help.
    Intel P4 3.0ghz   Windows XP

    Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

  • Can I run my 23" Cinema Display from a Windows PC? What adapters would I need and graphics card if any?

I need to buy a Windows PC Notebook and want to make sure there are adapters or if necessary video cards for it to run my 23" Apple Cinema Display.
(I'd prefer not having to get a separate monitor for the pc windows only jobs).
If anyone else does this, how does it work out for you? Any tips?

OOPs all. I looked at the other posts and see my answer.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Is the Macbook Air 2011 able to run the Apple Cinema Display 30" ?

    Hello Everyone.
So, I am about to buy a Macbook Air 2011 11".
I want this product because of the ssd driver and the versality of such a light object.
The things is that i work at school with a laptop, and when i come back home, i use my Apple Cinema Display on my Macbook Pro with the Dual Link dvi Adaptator (which cost me 98€ ouch !! ).
So i read that there were kind of retro-compatibility between Thunderbolt and Mini-Display Port on the new Mba.
Is the 2011 mba able to run my external display ?
    Thank  you.
    Nicolas.

    Yes.

  • HT2810 I have a thin blue line running down my 24" Cinema display, how can I remove it?

I have a thin blue line running down my 24" Cinema display, how can I remove it? or is it a fault.

It is a fault and the only way to fix it is to have the screen replaced.

  • MBA running windows 7 doesnt work with LED cinema display

Hi - got a brand new 13" MBA (one week before they announced the new one ) running Windows 7 via bootcamp but can't use my new LED cinema display - am I missing some drivers?

I have the exact same problem.
It has been very frustrating dealing with Apple on this issue. Support seems to know nothing about Boot Camp and drivers for Windows to run their Apple Led Cinema Display.
They had the nerve to tell me to call Windows. Windows support spent an hour with no result except that they found on the internet that the operating system for the external display is APPLE OSX. and says nothing about using it with Windows, and offers no Windows driver.
What peeves me most, was that I told the sales people at the store that I intended to run Windows on their Air computer with the 27" display, and they never told me that it WOULD NOT WORK!
Apple support says that I am supposed to have either a Bootcamp driver disk or USB memory, and I can find neither in my Apple Air box.
I frankly expect better from Apple. I hate Windows exactly because of this type of quality support, and Apple is doing no better in this instance.

  • MBP3.1 can't run 30-inch cinema display

I used my 30-inch Cinema Display on a G5 for quite awhile, but had to switch to my MacBook Pro when key apps like FC Pro required an Intel Mac. Since running it on my MBP 2.2 (Model A1226, introduced in 2007)/4 GB Ram/upgraded to 500GB drive I've had on-going problems with screen flickering, freezes and automatic rebooting.
I've had  Apple replace the graphic display and the mother board twice, and the problem continues. Apple claims that the MBP can drive the display, but it doesn't look as if they're right. My laptop has none of the problems when disconnected from the display.
Has anyone else had this problem?

You don't say what connection adaptor you are using. See this Apple support post to see if it applies to you. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3571
