HT2589 Authorize new computer - account says only one allowed, why?

I am not able to authorize my new computer, or deauthorize my old one in the account area, even though that should not matter since I can have 5 devices, right?  So I cannot buy or rent any movies this evening.

How are you trying to authorise it ? You should be able to do it via the Store drop-down menu at the top of iTunes e.g.
You can have 5 computers authorised at any one time.

    I am a bit of a computer/Internet/iTunes dummy....
I am concerned about the health of my current computer but have not yet made the commitment to a new one, but:
    1) How can I transfer my iTunes account to a new computer when I get one...
    and
    2) What can I do if my current computer suddenly implodes and I have not yet 'copied/'saved'/otherwise protected my account, as is? -- I have already had my computer crash once and had one of your people help me restore all of the paid for songs (none of the uploaded from my own collection of CD songs, of course, so I had to spend a long time rebuilding that) -- and I believe I was told you could only help me recover that material one or two times altogether, no?
WithOUT purchasing a Mach or iCloud (I actually think I have one of the later, but rarely have checked it) account, is there anything I can do to responsibly protect my account?
Thanks for any time taken on this!!!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

I recently got a new computer because my old one wouldn't let me open creative suite 3 after it generated a error and now I can't deactivate the key to activate it onto my new computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You are allowed to have two activted installations, so if the first machine is the only machine with an activated installation there is nothing prohibiting you from installing and activating on the new machine.
You can contact Adobe Support thru chat to have the old installation deactivation.

Before you restore the iPod from the backup that Dave had you make yu have to transfer stuff from the iPod to the computer since the backup does not contain the apps themselfes, music, synced phots and some other stuff.  To see what a backup contains see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    To transfer iTunes purchases:

    - For other stuff you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

Don't try transferring Adobe software. It rarely works and usually breaks the activation mechanism (150:30 error).

  • HT1386 i have gone through several pc units over time and when i try to sync up my iphone and ipad to my new computer is says it can not sync because i have the devices registered on too many computers. How do i fix that?

I have had several computers in recent years and when i try to sync my iphone and ipad to my new computer, it says it cant because the devices are registered on too many computers. I only need them synced up to two computers - how do i fix this?

In iTunes, under the "Store" menu, you can select "Deauthorize this computer". That will remove that computer from your iTunes account and free up a spot for the new computer.
If you have already sold or wiped your previous computers, you can log into your iTunes account from the Store menu in iTunes by selecting "View My Account xxxx@xxxx". Once you are logged in, about 1/4 the way down the page it will tell you that you have "xx computers are authorized......". Beside that you have the option to deauthorize all of the connected devices. That is the only option, you will have to deauthorize all and then set up the ones you want to use.
I think 10 is the maximum number of devices that can sync to one iTunes account.

  • When i try to authorize by computer its saying that "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store."

When i try to authorize by computer its saying that "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store." please someone help me

I had this same problem today. I have been battleing it for the past 5 hours, but it worked. You have to create a new account though.
What I did was go to iTunes and click Sign in, then made a new account.
But I didn't want to put in a Credit Card number, so what I did was
    Open iTunes
    Go to iTunes Store
Search a totaly free app. (I used Google Earth)
Click on the app from the list
Click the button under the icon that says "Free App"
Then it will ask you to sign in or make a new account, Select Make New Account
Follow All the steps on all the pages.
When you get to the page that you select your Credit Card, check "None"
Fill in the rest of the info and then click Complete
    Verify your email
I hope this helped you. Strangely, you can only select "None" Under Credit Card if you do it this way. Must be some iTunes bug.

Our old computer crashed which had all the kids ipod touch library on it. Now when I try to connect them to new computer it says I need to erase all data, apps, etc. to sync with new computer. - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like on of those discussed here:
    newer copy
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • Check if new computer account is running XP

I need to check if a new computer account created in AD is running XP -- we do not put SCOM agents on clients. I have created a SCOM 2012 R2 monitor that raises an alert when Security Log Event ID 4741 is detected on a DC. I want Orchestrator to
pick up on that alert and then check the OS of the computer account for XP, if true then update the alert that XP exists. A subscription takes care of getting the updated alert to the NOC. I don't use Powershell very often, unfortunately. There are two
challenges with this approach, (1) getting the client name out of the 4741 alert description to feed into "computername", and (2) getting a true - false result from Get-ADComputer. I'm completely stuck on (1) and at the following on (2): Get-ADComputer
-Filter 'Name -like "computername*"' -Properties OperatingSystem

This will get all computers that match a pattern and are running XP.  One call into an array.
    $xpcomputers=get-adcomputer -filter  {Name -like 'ws70*' -and OperatingSystem -like '*XP*'}
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • New computer or upgrade old one

My computer is 5 years old and starting to slow down. It is a Gateway 420GR Intel Pentium 4 Processor 515 with 160 GB and 512 MB.
Am I better off buying a new computer or upgrading the one that I have?
If it is better to buy a new one, any recommendations?
I would like one that is a 1 TB.

Between upgrading and purchasing new - purchase new.
However, the question is how you define "slow down" - is it "too slow for new things you have tried to do with it" or "slower than it used to be for the same workload".  If the latter, you may only need to do some basic software housecleaning work (defrag the hard drive, run malwarebytes and an antivirus to check for malware, etc.)
As to what is best for your needs - it depends on if you have any specific requirements (like gaming) - for basic needs (pretty much anything your current system does), any new system on the market will run circles around it.  As to brand, I'm personally partial to Asus these days.
