HT2646 AppleTV Audio

I have sound on my AppleTV when I watch previews of movies, but when I try watching a movie I rented I have no sound. Anyone have a solution?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.

  • AppleTV; Audio no Video

Does anyone have the issue of no video, but audio, streaming to their AppleTV from their iPad? I have gone to web sites such as ESPN and have tried to stream to my AppleTV and all I get is audio and no video. Any help out there?

That would be irrelevant since its an airplay issue, the website in question has not been enabled

  • Brand new AppleTV audio loses sync with video in any of the apps over time

I bought a brand new panasonic viera plasma and a brand new Apple TV. Video is set to 1080p and I have comcast cable internet. I have three apple TVs in the house. The other two are the 720P models. I've tried two new appletvs on new tv only and after an hour or so of viewing videos in any of the apps (hbogo,Netflix,Hulu) the audio loses sync resulting in me resetting the ATV and fixing the issue temporarily.
I didn't have this problem when I was using the 720p model ATV on the new tv.
Could it be the larger 1080P files?

does it happen with shared material in an itunes lib?
if not and only the internet streaming services then maybe it's a Internet network issue

  • AppleTV audio out to old amp with only analog audio

I'm thinking about getting the Apple TV for both video and for playing my music on my home stereo system. I currently have an old amp with only analog audio capabilities, but the new ATV looks like it only supports digital optical out, and the digital to analog converters I've looked for seem pretty expensive. How can I get the audio from my music collection (iTunes) to play wirelessly through ATV through my amp?
I currently also have an Airport Express which I use for audio, but I was thinking of selling that and just using the ATV since the ATV can essentially do the same thing as the AX with added video benefit. I've seen some threads on streaming audio from the ATV to the AX, but do I really need both? Seems like there should be another way.
I was thinking of connecting the ATV to my TV via HDMI cable for audio, and then using an analog audio out from the TV to my amp. But, if I'm correct, that would only provide me with sound coming from the TV. It wouldn't give sound out from iTunes, for example. Is that right?
    Are there any other options?

Followings are my observations in audio streaming with Apple TV 3 and Airport Express through AirPlay protocol:
-- Apple TV 3 come with only digital audio outputs through HDMI and optical SPDIF outputs. If you connect optical link from the optical output to optical input of any DAC and HDMI cable from the HDMI output to HDMI input on TV set, audio output will be transmitted through both digital outputs. Thus is is not necessary to turn on TV set unless visual feedback is required. There is no audio analog line output for Apple TV 3.
-- AirportExpress come with single combo mini jack (digital + analog) for audio output regardless of old/new models. You can connect either digital optical link (with Mini/Toslink adaptor) to digital input of DAC or analog line cable (inferior) to analog line input of amplifier. When analog line is used, digital-to-analog conversion is done by DAC built into AirportExpress for which do not expect quality is as good as most external DAC models. What do you expect from a single-chip DAC implementation vs standalone DAC models cost few thousand dollars ? Moreover analog line is susceptible to interference more than digital line.
So the decision to use Apple TV or AirportExpress, analog or digital transmission for audio streaming depends on whether you need WiFi base station features of AirportExpress to establish wireless network and quality of your audio system to justify all-digital audio transmission. Followings are what I use in audio streaming from iMac/iPad mini /iPhone 5 to audio system in living room. Quality of audio output is comparable with Sonos Zone Player as audio source.

  • My ATV 2G with latest firmware doesn't stream audio to Airplay Speakers

    Hi everybody,
I have an AppleTV 2G upgraded to the latest firmware (5.1.1 / ios 6.0.1).
My problem is that it doesn't stream audio to my airplay speakers. I have the B&O Beoplay A8.
The speakers work fine with my ipad and iphone, but not the ATV.
I checked the aiplay settings, the speakers appear there normally and I have ticked them and they are the selection for the audio output.
Instead AppleTV audio is on the TV.
    Can someone please help me.
I got the speakers just for this reason. To listen audio from movies on ATV from the speakers.
    Every help is appreciated.

Timing-wise the problem coincided with upgrading the firmware on my Airport Express to 7.6.4 (reverting to the previous version doesn't seem possible).
Reverting to an earlier firmware version is possible with v5.6 of the AirPort Utility. Note: This version runs fine under OS X Mountain Lion but will not install without a workaround. Let me know if you need it.

  • Playing iTunes through my AppleTV

Here is my issue. I have an AppleTV hooked up through HDMI (for video) and Optical (for audio) to my pioneer tuner. The tuner is then attached to my Sony TV via HDMI. I try and play music through my AppleTV and visually it shows up on my TV, but I don't get any audio through the tuner. If I turn the volume up on the TV I can hear it, but I have surround sound and never have the volume up on the TV.
Just to add a little more, if I play movies or TV shows the audio comes through the tuner. Also if I go to my albums through my AppleTV audio plays through the tuner.
If anyone out there had any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

    don't i understand that
and so it works ! you need to pair your library with TV, then use the remote to navigate via your TV screen (or Apple's +remote app+ on your iPod Touch/iPhone).

  • No audio with apple tv?

i get graet picture but NO audio ?
    anyone have a solution?

Just to clarify as (sometims people confuse component with composite), you're using:
1 - Component leads - a set of 3 jack to jack leadscoloured red/green/blue to similar inputs on the TV (composite video is a single yellow connection)
2 - You have a standard pair of RCA stereo leads running to the TV audio input (coloured white and red usually)
You probably know all that but some people don't.
Assuming you have the correct cables and video is full colour, then video sounds fine.
For the audio, analogue sudio should just work out without changing any Settings, so possibilities are:
1 - you've connected to the TV's audio out not the audio in sockets
2 - your TV has to be manually configured to set the audio input to a particular video input - check the manual
3 - AppleTV audio out is defective
If there's no audio with music when playing, hold the up key on the remote which controls audio volume for this only in recent updates.

  • Boomy sound from apple tv

    Can somebody please help?
I have just purchased ATV and finally got it synced (after 3 days of port 3689 error msg) only to find that it sounds shockingly bad, very boomy and not clear at all.
ATV is connected to samsung tv via HDMI and then to samsung home cinema via HDMI. I have tried just playing through the tv testing different cables-same result, rubbish.
Tested sound system and tv using DVD and CDs and everything fine. Attached ipod via component cables, clear sound.
Is there any form of equiliser built into ATV that I've missed?
Only had ATV 3 days and I am getting very close to returning it so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    It should not sound boomy.
In fact, sat here listening to a couple of iTunes LP albums over optical to the hi-fi and they sound superb, very analogue warmth/depth to them (Muse - The Resistance, and Peter Gabriel - So+).
The analogue output via stereo jacks isn't the best but all the HDMI and optical will do is relay the digital audio for conversion by TV or amp.
Have a look to see if Sound Check is on in the AppleTv audio settings - if it is turn it off and try again - this consistently makes audio sound awful IMO.

  • Sound quality of mp3's via apple tv?

Just wondering what it is like. At the moment i stream itunes to my PS3 which sounds great upscaled through my Onkyo 875 amp. Will i get the same kind of sound quality from Apple tv?

AppleTV audio via optical sounds superb through my ageing Yamaha Processor into the main hi-fi.
For audio MP3 etc gets converted to a PCM bitstream by AppleTV for digital out to be handled by the amp.
If connecting via HDMI theer should be little difference.
AppleTV will not upsample audio, from memory my PS3 can do this, but frankly you're not gaining new information just interpolating. Does the Onkyo upsample?

  • Why are some movies in french

My language is set to English.
The movie description is presented in English.
The preview (Jaws for example) plays with the French overdub.
    Other previews do the same.
    Help appreciated.

Could be an encoding error for the file.
Check in AppleTV audio settings what your default audio language setting is (at least i think it has one) - if this is English I'd guess the encoding is messed up so report it to Apple using 'Report a problem' in your invoice email or via iTunes account purchase history links.
While the movie is playing hold the select button down - if there are multiple language tracks it should allow you to change to English if available - until recently most had only 1 or 2 audio tracks.

  • New updates have trashed interdevice communication

After updating iTunes to 10.6.0.40, updating my iPad 1 and iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1, and my AppleTV 2 to 5.0, I can no longer sync via wifi or airplay to my AppleTV. I've rebooted & restarted everything several times, to no avail. Is there a fix for this? If not, please un-f*** this up, Cupertino.

agreed, after the ios 5.1 update I am having problems w/ my airplay to appletv (audio only) video works fine, just looking for others that have had similar issues. and I've found someone.

  • How can you increase the audio bitrate for AppleTV?

Cross-posting as no response from the Compressor forum.
I have a .mkv file generated from a Blu-Ray disk. The MKV is AVC, codec V_MPEG4, 18.7 Mbps, 1920 x 1080 at 23.976 fps. Audio is DTS, codec A_DTS, 6 channels, 48 KHz, 24 bit, 1510 kbps. I'm looking to create an AppleTV video with the highest audio quality possible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP598?viewlocale=en_US
    states:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
The standard Apple TV preset is H.264 1280 x 720 at 5 mbps, Audio mpeg4 44.1 kHz, 2 channel 128 kbps. If I modify this to MPEG4, 48 kHz, 256 kbps, include Dolby 5.1 audio, compressor gives an error:
Failed 3x error: NewMovieFromFile failed -2048
I want to create an HD video file that will play on the AppleTV with the maximum audio quality possible. Is there a way to do this?

I was watching this thread to see the response. I have posted appletv encode questions on the compressor forum without response.
One suggestion to try is to post this question on the handbrake forum. I think that they will be able help regarding your audio.

Amazon Prime reply app does not allow video airplay - nor do several other content providers.
It must have something to do with digital rights/copyright.

  • HT4437 iOS5 would allow me to play youtube videos from my phone to my TV via AppleTV but now iOS6 will only play audio. Help!

I know AppleTV does have a youtube feature. But I used to be able to search youtube videos on my phone and click on the airplay icon on my phone to watch the videos on my tv via Apple Tv. Now with iOS6 the video from youtube still plays on my phone and the audio plays on the tv via AppleTV.
Why is it all upgrades have issues, aren't these things tested?????

After the ios 6 upgrade I found the only what to use airplay to watch you videos is to use either safari or the video app. The Youtube app doesn't work properly on any apple product. My app on my apple tv wont read the google information anymore so I dont have the playlists, history or any other such thing. You can use mirroring as well but it is a pain in the back side to use and looks like crap.
