  • How can I export a playlist to a jump drive?

My new motorcycle has a stereo with a usb port. I am using an iPod, but i frequently have dropouts or disconnects. I would like to try a jump drive, but pulling songs out of the folders takes so long…if I could drag a current playlist to the drive that would be much preferred. Plus it would take the album art with it. That leads to question #2…if I have to build a playlist by pulling songs out of folders, is there a way to get the album art? If not from iTunes, is there some other software? I checked out media monkey, but it does not appear to be iMac compatible.

Playlists are not in Finder, they are in iTunes.  In reality they are only a list of tracks in your library file, not a specific arrangement of files in Finder.  It's like a recipe in a cookbook.  You have a recipe for cake and it tells you the ingredients for that cake which you have in various places in the kitchen.  You probably do not keep the shelves in your kitchen arranged by recipe, otherwise you would have 50 containers of salt, 30 of flour, etc.  If your files were arranged by playlist on the computer you might end up with 10 copies of the same file and people would quickly complain here about wasting drive space.
Open a Finder window, make it smaller and place it on the left side of your screen.
Open iTunes and make the window smaller and place it on the right side of your screen.
Click on a playlist and drag it from the iTunes window to the flash drive open in the Finder window, or even just where it shows in the sidebar if you have your preferences set for drives to display.  All the files that make up the contents of that playlist will be copied to the flash drive.  You won't see a playlist as such, but you will see all the files in that playlist.  How your motorcycle's player handles things from this point really depends upon the motorcycle's player software and you will have to read the manual for that.  Some only play a bunch of files alphabetically. Some may use specific playlist files to make a more orderly structure similar to iTunes, and then there's a whole different question as to how to generate that.

  • HT2688 How can I add a playlist from one computer to another in my home sharing network?

I have a playlist set up on my static PC and I would like to transfer it to my Ipod and also my laptop. I have "dragged" it but I deget the "denied" icon. Surely I can do this?
    any help would be fab!
    Thanks

Right click the playlist and select "Export Song List". In the next screen that comes up, change the type from a TXT file to an XML file, and save the XML playlist. Copy that XML file to the other machine, and import it into iTunes. Voila. Even saves your Smart Playlist rules.

Related question: How can I choose the default View Options when creating new Play Lists from CD's (that I own) just imported in iTunes

The XML file is a subset of the information in the ITL provided for 3rd party apps to query the library. iTunes doesn't make any use of the data it places there. The ITL file records all the things that aren't recorded in file tags such as ratings, play counts, playlist membership etc.

  • HT2688 How do I share a playlist of old standards with my fathers ipod touch. He has alzheimer's/dementia and one of the things the doctors have suggested is to play music he would have listened to in younger years.

I am trying to figure out if I can share a playlist of old standards from my itunes library with my father's ipod touch, which we purchased for him a few years ago, without erasing the content that is already on his ipod. The current content was put on it by my sister, who does not currently live near here.
My father has mid/late stage alzheimer's/dementia and one of the things that has been suggested is to play music for him from when he was a younger man.
Thanks in advance for any help,

I just discovered what the Project Loop End marker is for. I am no longer frustrated. And, apparently, it IS a problem to set project durations shorter than about eight seconds. I had no problem setting it to ten. Four and five are problems.
So, for anyone else who wants to end a Motion project on an exact fram: Project Loop End. To me, that sounded like it would go back and play the effect over again, but it doesn't.

  • How do I transfere a playlist from my iPod to my computer, which I made on my computer from all my songs. I've tried export and import, but they are not working.

I accidently created a playlist sitting at my computer but saved to my iPod. I would like the playlist on my Itunes library so my husband can put the play list on his ipod which is also synced to my/our computer.
I tried to export the playlist then import. It seems like it imported, but i don't see it. How do I find it? on the videos I watched the playlist just shows up in the iTunes library playlist column.
It did not. What do I do next?
    Thanks

Transfer files between your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad and your computer
Connect your device to your computer.
Click the device button, then click Apps.
Below File Sharing (you might need to scroll down to see it), in the list on the left, select the app on your device that you want to transfer a file to or from.
    Do one of the following:
Transfer a file from your computer to your device: Click Add, select the file you want to transfer, and click Open.
Transfer a file from your device to your computer: Select the file you want to transfer in the list on the right, click “Save to,” select where you want to save the file, and click Open.
The file is transferred to your device or saved in the location you specified on your computer.
On your device, the file can be opened in the app you selected in step 3.
    Hope this helps

Make a smart playlist of your whole library but only checked songs - #4 on  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1801
Highlight all files in that playlist, then drag to the other drive.  This isn't preserving any playlists or whatever, just copying files from one drive to another.
You might want to delete the smart playlist this once you are done because it will probably gobble up resources with that many files.

  • How do I export the MUSIC in a playlist to a USB dongle?

    Hi There,
I have put more than 400 songs into a new playlist and I want to export this playlist (music content NOT just the play LIST) onto a USB dongle. I did this some time ago and can't remember how I did it. I can BURN to a disk, but I want this playlist onto a dongle. Any help would be grateful.
    Thanks
    Phacoman.

    Hello arrowepark,
Thank you for providing the details of what you are trying to accomplish.  To transfer a playlist, you will need to transfer the music and playlist file separately.
You can transfer your music by dragging the music to the USB drive, and next, you will have to take the additional step of exporting the playlist to the USB and importing your playlist to the alternate computer:
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File>Library> Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.
You can find this in the section titled "Home Sharing" in the following article:

  • I would like to export a playlist to an sd card, how is this done?

I would like to export a playlist to an sd card, how is this done?

The playlist? Or the songs on the playlist?
Assuming it's the playlist only: File -> Library -> Export playlist
You can export to a file in different formats.
    If it's the songs:
Create  folder on the desktop. Select the songs you want to export, drag them from the iPhoto window to the folder. Copy that to the Card.

  • Anyone know how I can transfer my playlist from iphone to Itunes on my laptop. Computer had crashed. I am unable to export. I had backed up songs to icloud which are now on my laptop however without the original playlists folders?

Anyone know if I can transfer my playlist from iphone to Itunes on my laptop.
I am not keen to sync my iphone to my new laptop in case it wipes out my playlist.
My Computer had crashed so I am unable to export a playlist.
I had backed up songs to icloud which are now on my laptop however without the original playlists folders?
    Any suggestions?

    Hello CDA ENT
I would turn off the automatic syncing so that way you can see what is on your iPhone. From there, you should be able to see what is on your iPhone and then can export out the playlists and then import them back to your library. I would also recommend backing up your iPhone before going through with this process. To export a playlist, have it highlighted then go to File > Library > Export Playlist…
iTunes: How to backup and restore playlists

Open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. Select the option to prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.

I need to export new playlist to IPhone and cannot seem to make it work.  Usually it happens when I sync but not this time.  TIA

You create the playlist on the other computer which may require moving or copying of the media from the first computer to the second computer.

  • When I export a playlist and then open in excel, do whatever sorting I want, I then save the file and reimport into itunes but not all the songs are there. It appears to be from "comma's" in the song name. Any solutions?

I see songs such as "Monday, Monday" or "Paint It, Black" or even the artist name such as "Fireballs, with Jimmy Gilmer" which have comma's in them, being a problem when I try to do the following:
    1. Export a playlist which contains songs which are all there and play fine, but some have comma's in the title such as listed above.
    2. I then open that file in Excel and bring it in as a Tab-delimited file.  Everything lays out fine, and all the songs are thing (including those with comma's).
    3. I then sort the varoius fields I want (which I can't do in i-tunes because i-tunes won't sort it properly), and resave the file as a newly named file, which is also a .txt file.
    4. I then import that playlist into my itunes. It is exactly the same songs that I just had exported but i-tunes says some of the songs can't be found.
I have traced this problem to comma's in the file name of the song such as listed above.  There must be a solution to this either as the file is opened in excel or in how it's saved or some other solution short of having to rename song/artists without using comma's.
    Thanks.

The additional problem is the file name of the song itself.  Even if I were able to delete the commas or replace with a space for example, changing the file name would result in itunes not being able to find the file.  I would have to go through each file (out of about 15,000+ songs) to find any that have titles such as described in this thread and change not only the song and artist in the fields, but changing the mp3 file itself.
I fear that I am really pretty much going to have to start with a list of songs that have no comma and then do a file compare to find those songs with commas and then just physically moving them into a new playlist I'm trying to create, but this is a royal pain as I want to be able to create a variety of playlists based on these chart dates/peak positions.
I'm trying to sort the songs in this manner:  I use different fields in itunes so that I can put the "peak position" of each song based on Billboard charts, as well as the date the peak position was acheived. I use the "comment box" for that.  I use the "grouping" field for my peak position.
So I end up with something like "10/14/1980" in the comment box as the peak position for a song which is in the grouping field, and so forth.  If I try to sort the comments column in itunes for example, it won't sort properly. If I sort the Grouping field, it will bring up all the "1's", but that's followed by "10", 11, ...19, then "2", etc.  This is why I want to export the playlist and sort it as I want, and then reimport the playlist into itunes.
What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a year-by-year peak position playlist so that I end up with every #1 song (in this case) from, say, January 1st 1980 and then every #1 song in sequential order for the rest of the year falls in line.  I have chart position dates from 1955 through 1999.  I have entered in all the data from Billboard books I own so I can really create some amazing playlists, but these commas are problematic. Had I known this ahead of time I would have made "Monday, Monday" as "Monday Monday" and not included commas, but it's too late for that.
    Any suggestions?
