HT2688 I cannot find 'Turn on Home Sharing' in the advanced menu.  Why not?

I cannot find 'Turn on Home Sharing' in the advanced menu.  Why not?

I have this issue as well however to make things work I either have to stop and restart the home sharing on the iTunes Library or re logon to the iTunes account via the Apple TV......these solutions suck but they do work.

  • I have turned on home sharing but the house icon does not appear. Have read a blog that says it is not set up correctly am i missing something here?

I had home tuning running fine on my mac. Since introducing apple tv the home sharing house icon is missing and will not allow me to drag and drop from home sharing. I have read other blogs that say if the house icon does not appear then home sharing is not set up correctly. Any suggestions as it seems to be running fine except for letting me move files.

  • Trying to share music on home network and the advanced tab does not have home sharing on it what to do?

I was setting up sharing & was trying to click on home sharing under the advanced tab and that item was not there. What can I do?

    Hey hinge,
I found an article that goes over 8 troubleshooting steps to take if your Home Sharing isn't working. You can check them out here:

I'd go through each one and check to see if that resolves the issue.

  • While trying to copy files using home sharing, get the error you do not have enough access privileges

I'm trying to use "Home Sharing" feature in iTunes to import files from another user on the same iMac.  We have 5 users and one user is unable to import files from other users.  We get the error "You do not have enough access privileges to perform this operation."  All users are logged in using the same Apple ID and everyone else can import files.  What gives?

Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back when I switched computers and migrated.  Here's what worked on my iMac, so maybe it'll work on your iPad, too.  Go to User(your home folder)/Music.  Select/highlight your "Music" folder.  Then do Command-I ("Get Info" from the File menu), click on the padlock icon in the lower right of the new window.  Enter your user password.  Click on your username just above the now-open padlock.  Select "Read & Write" if it's on "Read Only," "Write Only," or "No Access."  Now having your user account with "Read & Write" privileges (it may have been this way already; still do this next step), click on the gear on the bottom-center of that window.  Click on "Apply to all enclosed items."  When the pop-up says "Are you sure?" (or the equivalent), say "yes."  This will grant access privileges to your user account for all the music files inside your music folder--all your iTunes stuff included).  Then you should be good to go.

  • What can I do when I cannot turn off home sharing to other devices?

I just bought an iMac (my first) and when I tried to turn on home sharing, it told me that I would need to deactivate home sharing on another device. My other devices (an ex-boyfriend's computer, a crashed/dead HD laptop, a crashed/dead Dell desktop...) cannot be reached to turn off...what to do??? Many thanks for your help!

Go to Settings>General>Usage. How much space does it show you have?
If you connect your phone to your computer, what does iTunes say is on your phone? Do you see a large amount of "Other"? If so, you may have a corrupted database. You'll need to sync your phone then restore it as NEW (not from back up) then re-sync your data).

  • The last apple tv upgrade now has no home sharing. When I click on "Computers" there is nothing and a pop up tells me to turn on Home Sharing in I Tunes. It is turned on.

I have just done an upgrade on Apple TV. When I try to play my music on my TV now I click on "computers" and get a message to turn on home sharing in itunes. Home sharing is turned on. I get a message "cannot find ..........library. Any help anyone please.

I had this problem too.  My PC is connected to my router via  an ethernet cable and my Apple TV is connected via wireless.  When I phoned Apple they said that my router was probably sending the signals via two different sub networks, one for ethernet and one for wireless and so the Apple TV couldn't see my computer (It's like they are on different connections).  I didn't really understand how my router was setting up sub networks but when I connected my Apple TV via ethernet it works fine and then stops again when I use wireless.  I restarted my router and it was ok so I then went into my router settings and selected to always use the same channel for the Apple TV.  So far it has worked everytime I've switched on.

  • HT202213 Have newest version of ITunes and a new AppleTV. ITunes File Home Sharing only shows option to turn off home sharing.  No home sharing icon and Apple TV claims home sharing is not turned on.  Where is this advanced menu?

Cannot get home sharing to work with my new apple TV.  Have the latest version of ITunes and the apple TV is connected to my wi-fi network.  The instruction page says to go to the Advanced menu option of ITunes and choose Home Sharing.  This option does not exist.  The closest I can find is under the File option>Home Sharing where my only option is to turn off home sharing.  There is no home sharing icon and Apple TV insist that the home sharing is not turned on.
I must be missing something obvious here.

  • Error "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes".  But it's on...

When I try to use my Computer section on my Apple TV so that I can view movies or music in my iTunes library it gives me the error "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes".  Of course I have done that already in iTunes on my computer.  I went into my iTunes preferences and in sharing made sure "Share my library on my local network" was checked.  It's not requiring a password so it should be good to go.
Right now I am using my old Qwest modem to get DSL.  It's using transparent bridging and I have it plugged into a new Cisco 800 series router and I also have a Cisco Aironet 1200 AG series for my wireless devices.  I am using WPA encryption.
I have my entire music library as well and my entire movie library that I like to get through my Apple TV.  I am unable to access any of it.  I would be so grateful if anyone can help me.  It may be an easy fix but I can't find it.  I searched the forum and couldn't find anything.  Please someone help!   Thanks in advance for any help!
I posted this question in the Apple TV section of the forum but have yet to get a response after over a month.

I had this issue when i got my apple tv, found that they were on different parts of the network with different ip address parts. They need to be on the same segment (not sure if that is the right term) I have 2 routers one with wireless operating and powerline link to apple tv and the other have the pc with the shared itunes, changed the connections and it works fine.
    Hope this helps
My disappointment is having a NAS box with itunes server but it can't be seen.
