  • Selectively transfer data to new ipad from backup

My 64gb 1st generation ipad was recently stolen.  I do, however, have a recent backup stored on my macbook pro.  I would like to replace my ipad and restore my old data, however I am cheap and feel that 16gb should be sufficient for my needs.  I was wondering whether restoring from the backup will work, given the difference in the hard drive size (the size of the backup folder on my mac pro is 46gb).  Most of the old data is movies which I don't need.  However, there is <1gb of critical data (personal notes) which I desperately want to see again.  Is there any way to selectively recover this data?  Thanks!

Sounds like I'm stuck then.  I found one forum thread that suggested you could trick the ipad into selectively overlooking data from certain apps during restore by deleting them from itunes (https://discussions.apple.com/message/23622388?searchText=Selectively%20transfer %20data%20to%20new%20ipad%20from%20backup#23622388).  If true, I think this could solve my problem since most of the data is from a single app. Do you think this could work?
    Thanks for your help, Diavonex!

  • How do I transfer all my data and applications to my new iPad from my old one ?

How do I transfer all my data and applications to my new iPad from my old one ?

This may also be useful.  Although backing up and restoring via iCloud works, doing it via iTunes may be better, and here's why:
Via iCloud your actual apps are not backed up, just a record of the fact that you legally own them.  When you restore, your new device knows it's OK to download and install them again from the App Store.  This is fine for all apps that are still available, but for those that have been removed from the App Store you're going to be without them.
It is also a lot faster to transfer a ton of apps from iTunes via the cable than to download them all over wifi.
Another advantage of doing it via iTunes is that all your network/wifi settings and passwords will be included in the backup/restore process.  (Make sure you have selected "encrypted backup" for this to happen.)  This way you will not need to mess around typing them all in again.
I've tried both methods and would definitely recommend going "old school" via iTunes for these reasons.  Hope this helps.

I just had this problem as well and spent quite a bit of time reviewing all of the suggestions/ideas/comments, and since I am not that tech-savy I remembered this "suggestion" from the UK show The "IT  Crowd" which was "Have you tried turning it off and on again??" (both devices)

Sorry to read about this. A relative had a similar experience. Just a few things she was told to do. Hopefully one will get your content back. Make sure you are logged in to the same Apple Account the last iPad was. You should have a recent backup that can be downloaded to have your new iPad look like the one you replaced. When I changed from one iPad to another I used my last backup and all my apps and photos reloaded with no issues. This was done over wifi.
Another way is connecting your iPad to a computer that is logged into your iTunes account. It will show what backups you have available to download To your iPad. Again hopefully a recent backup was made of your iPad with all your most recent content.
In my cloud settings I made sure any photos I took were uploaded to the cloud to be downloaded automatically to my iPhone and visa versa.
If you had your photos setup to be uploaded to the cloud they should still be there. You just need to be logged into your Apple ID and your new iPad and I see no reason you cannot access them. Hopefully it is a simple fix.
    good luck.  Jeff

  • TS3899 Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.

Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.  I have deleted account and reinstalled.

Thanks.  I got the problem fixed.  Spent time with the Apple folks and was kicked up to a senior advisor.  It seems the problem was with my internet provider - Tmie Warner.  Remember I could use the old ipad and the iphone to send mail.  I checked all the specifics between the three units.  It seems that TW is changing over from the RR.com  to TWC.com.  Since the new ipad air was just set up, it fell under the new TWC mail specifics.

Nodgey,  What  country are you in?  It is available on the iTunes USA Store:

However, the iTunes Store restricts it to "Album Only" purchases.  If you just want that track, you can buy it separately at Amazon MP3:

  • How do I save everything on my apps and transfer to a new iPad?

Need help!!  I want to get a new iPad but need to transfer all the info on my current iPad apps (e.g. goodreader, keynote, etc).  How can I do it without losing anything/everything?  How can I also ensure that my iPad is "empty" before I give away?
Separate inquiry...because many of us use this iPad, Is there also a way to transfer the information we have under one iTunes account into another?
    Thank you for your help!

First, sync and backup the ipad to both itunes on a computer and icloud if possible. You can restore the new ipad from the old ipad backup. You can download any previously purchased and downloaded account by signing into the account used to access the content and download again from the 'purchased' tab on your ipad.

    Hi ,
I would like to ask you about purchase item transfer to ipad from mac book Itunes, But This message will be notified on screen
"This ipad could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized with that purchased item on this ipad"
I did authorized in the store, but still did not transfer to the mac. Could you please to tell me what should I do it? Please let me know that as soon as possible.
    Regards,
    Thank you

The iPad is fine.  But the computer you're syncing with needs to be authorised with the Apple ID that was used to buy the material on the iPad.  You do this by picking the 'Authorize' item from the menu in iTunes and entering the account name and password.

I purchased an upgrade for my OneNote app, how do I get that to transfer to my new iPad?   I downloaded the app but the upgrade is not loaded on this new iPad.

One way is to open the App Store on your iPad and click the "Updates" link in the lower right.  You should see OneNote there with a clickable "Download" button.  Click the button and wait for the download and install to complete.

Out of a silly curiosity, in what way did Ralph's reply solve your problem? (not that Ralph doesn't deserve recognition, mind you.)
