  • How do I transfer the purchased items on my iPhone to my iTunes library?

When I connect my iPhone to my computer, I get the message that a newer version of iPhone software is available. However, when I click on the link to download and install the software, I get the message "There are purchased items on the iPhone that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone." How do I transfer the purchased items on my iPhone to my iTunes library?

You may need to enable the Menu Bar.
In the upper right hand corner, there should be a small box, half dark colored and half light, with a small arrow next to it. Click there, and choose "Show Menu Bar" from the resulting menu. At that point, you should be able to select File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, as explained by roaminggnome.
A second option you have is to show the sidebar by going to View > Show Sidebar. After this is done, right click on your device in the sidebar, and "Transfer Purchases" should be an option.

  • Is it possible for me to transfer the purchases from my old itunes account to my new one? I would like to keep all of my music, movies, tv shows etc.

I just created a new Apple ID that is different from my old one. Is it possible for me to transfer the purchases from my old account to my new one? I would like to keep all of my music, movies, tv shows etc.

It doesn't matter what your AppleID is - you can just change the email address associated with it at http://appleid.apple.com/ as mentioned numerous times above.
Okay, my former Apple ID = my former email address and the latter is dead because I moved out of the geographic area.
If you just updated the email address associated with your AppleID you wouldn't have to sign in twice.
I guess Apple Inc is wrong because that is EXACTLY what they stated when I called yesterday afternoon.  SIGN IN TWICE when I activate Apple TV and want to watch/listen to my legitimate purchases when my iMac is OFF.
Your only problem is the fact you didn't safely store the password to your account and subsequently forgot it.
Wrong ... my only PROBLEM, SIR, is that my bride, my wife of over 51 years died in my arms at 4:16 AM on December 27, 2012.  As a direct result, I decided to get the **** out of the city where my Nancy and I lived for **** near 20 years.
On the outside chance it is of interest to you, she is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 66, based on my faithful military service during 1961 -> 1981 ... including Vietnam during 1967.
    http://lovesongforever.com
Part of this PROBLEM, SIR, is that Apple Inc refuses to merge my old purchases with my new one.

  • How to transfer my purchases on iPhone to iTunes AUTOMATICALLY?

Ok, I have bought most of my apps on my device and when I sync it to iTunes I have to transfer my purchases. Yada yada yada. Anyway, one day I got tired of having to click it "Transfer" in pop-up window before it syncs and I checked the please don't show me this again thing. Then I figured it would always just auto transfer purchases. Apperently I was wrong. Now to tranfser my purchases, I have to cancel the sync very quickly, and manually transfer the purchases. is there a way to set it so iTunes AUTOMATICALLY transfers my purchases to iTunes so they will stop being deleted off my device. If it's impposible at least I just want to get the pop-up window back in iTunes. Thanks in advance

Well, one feature of iTunes 10.4 is that there's a option you can enable to automatically download the apps, books, and music that you purchase on other devices.
Simply go to iTunes preferences and then under the store menu you can enable the options you'd like.
As for your question, you might want to reset all dialogs in the advanced menu in the iTunes preferences.  Then you'll get your dialog coming up again.

  • **HELP**how to transfer "lost" music from computer to iTunes library

HELP *_Problem #1_* I deleted old files. Apparently I deleted too much. I restored the CDs from the recycle bin, but now I can't find where that music is located on my computer. *_Problem #2_* Once I find the music from the CDs how do I add it back into my iTunes library. (Problem is that I don't have some of the CDs anymore!!!)

When you locate the files you can put them into your library by hitting the file drop down menu and selecting Add file to library or add folder to library. You can then browse for the files and download them into itunes.

  • How do you transfer the purchased items in the ipad 2 ios 4.3.1 to iTunes

I have an ipad 2 with the IOS 4.3.1. I would like to transfer all my purchased items to itune before updating my IOS. How should I do?
    Thanks

In order to prevent the loss of valued purchases from your iPhone or iPad, you may need to back up your important purchased items to somewhere safe, your computer or iTunes library, for example. You can transfer purchases manually before you sync your iPhone or iPad to iTunes.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Transfer of purchased items on phone to library

I need to restore my iphone 4 coz of a software prob.but when I clic restore button window appears saying There r purchased items in phone that hv not bn transferred to library. Need to transfer them to library b4 I restore or will lose them. Don't exactly know what items r, hv also tried everything thats listed but window still pops up. Any ideas wot I can try?

    Copied from your original post.
I need to restore my iphone 4 coz of a software prob.but when I clic restore button window appears saying There r purchased items in phone that hv not bn transferred to library.
You said you need to restore your iPhone with iTunes. My instructions included the following:
+Since you don't have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, with your iPhone connected at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. After confirming all 3rd party apps on your iPhone are now in your iTunes library on your computer, select Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and make sure all apps currently installed on your iPhone are selected below. Select Apply followed by a sync.+
The Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone should include any iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store which is not in your iTunes library on your computer. This includes any music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps downloaded from iTunes with your iPhone that is not in your iTunes library on your computer.
After confirming all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store that was not in your iTunes library is now in your iTunes library, you can restore your iPhone with iTunes. After the restore is completed, this must be followed by a sync. Select the music under the Music tab, the movies under the Movies tab, the apps under the Apps tab, etc. that you want transferred to your iPhone.
If you were manually managing music and videos with your iPhone before with Manually Manage Music and Videos selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, switching to syncing music, movies, and tv shows will erase all music, movies, and tv shows from your iPhone first.
Since you indicated you want to restore your iPhone with iTunes with your original post, go ahead and do so after confirming all iTunes content on your iPhone that was downloaded from the iTunes store which was not in your iTunes library is now in your iTunes library.

  • How to transfer ring tones from old PC itunes library to new PC itunes library

I have upgraded my computer and am in the process of importing the music, apps, audiobooks, etc from my old computer & iTunes library to my new computer.  I am using the HomeShare feature to do the import and it has worked flawlessly for everything except ringtones.  When I access my ringtones in the old library, the "Import" button does NOT appear in the lower right hand corner like it does for music, apps, etc.  So, how then do I transfer my ringtone library from the old iTunes library to the new one???  Thanks for any and all help.

Unfortunately iTunes won't let you just "Copy" and "Paste" out of the library.  However, you can drag and drop files from your library into a USB drive and then drag and drop them from the USB drive into the new library.
This is not the best way to do it,
As dieselvdub noted, just copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
Then is is an exact duplicate of the old library (same ratings, artwork, playlists, date added, # plays, etc.), not just a new library with all content
