HT2729 Why can't I use my videos in iTunes?

I have the latest version of iTunes.
So here's what I do. I press Ctrl + O (File > Add File to Library), then I click the movie I want to add to my iTunes Library. iTunes seems to load for about two seconds, then... nothing. The movie isn't added to the library. I've tried it in .avi, .mp4 and .mov so far, but it's not working at all. I'm trying to add an actual movie, by the way. It's about 700 MB in size. Is there a size limit? The movie was given to me by a friend, originally in .avi format.
Am I missing something?

FCP doesn't edit the format the camera shoots. You need to convert the video files to ProRes...then import into FCP.
If you want an app that edits formats natively, look at Adobe Premiere CS5.5.

FIX:
1. You need Time Machine
2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
If that doesnt pass,

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.

Why can't I open facebook videos on my ipad and iphone any more? I used to be able to open most but now I can't open any. Now it just comes up with a message 'unable to play video.Check your internet connection and try again' There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. I am on wifi and full signal strength. This is happening on both ipad and iphone. It's not the problem where sometimes a video wants Adobe to open it. This message comes up as soon as you try to click on the video play button in the video. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this please?

Thanks for this Griff but it's not the app that isn't responding. I am in the facebook app (on both iPhone and iPad) and the app is working fine but if people post a video I can't look at the video on the iPhone or iPad. i always used to be able to but now it keeps coming up with the message I mentioned above. So I can no longer watch videos from facebook on either my iPad or iPhone. Here is a screen shot of my phone of what is happening. As you can see I have full wifi so there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. This is really annoying as I used to be able to watch videos on both phone and ipad out of facebook. now I can't. Hope you can help. regards and thanks Vicki

Does the ManyCam option appear in other apps ?
Messages for instance or Photo Booth ?
In Messages you will have to go to the Preferences > Video section and the camera drop down (below the pic)
In Photo Booth there are no Preferences as such and you use the Camera Menu. (when you have two cameras)
One reason for not seeing the Many Cam is you have not restarted the computer since installing it.
