The page that you posted from tells you how to create an iTunes account, or there are instructions on this page if you want to create one without giving credit card details : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 . To use that new account your wife can tap on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on her device(s) and log out of your existing account and she can then log in with the new one.
All of the content that you and/or your wife has downloaded on your account will remain tied to your account, so only your account will be able to download updates to those apps.

Since you can't delete Apple IDs and having multiple Apple IDs can cause confusion, what you may want to do is rename your existing Apple ID to the new email (desired Apple ID). That would in effect do what you want, get rid of the old and give you the new.

connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.

They then advised me to change my password if I had not made those purchase. How do I know that emails are legit? You can always manually go to http://appleid.apple.com and change your password there, to avoid any links from the emails.
That's the only place you should use to change your Apple Id password.
With that said, do you know if anybody may have used your Apple Id to download things? Like kids to a new computer or tablet?

Which generation Nano and what software are you referring to? There are no downloadable apps on a Nano.

Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID. What ID is in the settings. Tap on that ID to change it. Sign Out. Sign in with your own ID. After you sign out with the incorrect ID, restart the iPad before you sign into your correct account.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go to Settings>Store and sign in.

This is entirely my complaint.
I have to sit without useable internet for 5 days when there is no fault, before anyone does anything about it ? BT visit the village to do something for another customer, mess up my perfectly working broadband, and then refuse to do anything about it for 5 days. And I pay full price during that time. There isn't a fault with the line, it is perfectly stable. I just need somebody to use common sense and set the IP profile back to what it was.
If the system is so clever, it could at least try moving off 135k to 512k say after an hour or so.

I've owned Apple desktops since 1995. Firefox looks promisng, but why should I use it over the Safari browser?

I've been stung many times over the years by promises of all the things a browser or website (like Comcast) can do, only to find, that it doesn't apply to Apple products. I'm not tech saavy, but am willing to become more so, if it's worthwhile to do so. I am a public school speech language pathologist and have a chunk of time off work in which to become educated as to how to make this system work for me. My current iMac is only a few months old, so I'm not willing to run out and buy a pc. However, I have an internet provider which only works optimally on the Firefox browser (instead of my former default, Safari) now, and am unwilling to switch back to that horrid Comcast! So it's Firefox for me, as long as you tell me what Macs CAN'T do on Firefox before I get my hopes up for the 100th or more time since 1995.

They may have meant to clear the cache and remove the cookies from sites that cause problems and not a reset that involves a new Firefox profile, so you can try that if it happens again.

I don't believe you can if you're using Family Sharing. All purchases by anyone in the family group are billed to the family organizer's credit card without an option to use multiple billing methods/cards. If you want to purchase something without it being charged to the card you can purchase and redeem iTunes gift cards to create a credit. The credit would then be charged before any remaining balance is charged to the card.

In iOS 6 you should be able to delete apps that are downloading... if you're not on iOS 6 just update to it and you should be able to do that. If not that, connect the iPad to iTunes, download the apps on your Mac or PC and then sync them with the iPad. That should work.

I went into the computer and set up my account, I then went to where you enter the gift card info to redeem the money and my account says I have $40...however, when I go and try to use it I can not figure out how to do so. Order of iTunes billing methods
When making purchases, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits; your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance.
When you buy individual songs from the iTunes Store:
Free song credits are redeemed first.
If you have no free song credits, gift certificate, prepaid card, and allowance credits are used next.
If your gift certificate, prepaid card, and/or allowance credit is less than the total cost of the purchase, your credit card is billed for the remaining balance.
If you have no free song credits or gift certificates, prepaid cards, or allowance credits, your credit card is billed for the songs you buy.
