okay, try option-clicking on the speaker icon on the top of your screen. That should bring up a list of sound output options. including headphone. You could try messing around with Audio MIDI. It may be possible that the thing is still stuck inside the headphone jack. Careful use of a toothpick may get it unstuck. I dunno, I've never had a problem with the headphone jack. If all else fails, call Apple or take 'er in for an appointment

I believe it has little to nothing to do with extensions.
I have just installed Firefox 27 on the Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop of a friend. She is an unsophisticated user who has a computer for email, simple web browsing, and watching YouTube and other online videos. Because she frequently seems to end up with junk on her machine, I wanted to switch her over to Firefox so I could install ad and script blockers that would hopefully slow down the frequency of adware and malware roosting in her system.
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3520 with an Intel celeron CPU (64-bit), running Windows 8. There are standard end-user applications installed (Adobe Reader, VLC Media Player, etc.), but no tweaking utilities, etc. The audio drivers are Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio.
I've been troubleshooting the laptop today trying to track down why the integrated speakers continue to work when the headphones are plugged in, with no sound coming through the headphones. Because I had run a series of virus / malware / adware scans just before installing Firefox, I thought I had mistakenly deleted some system audio files.
It finally became clear after toggling multiple settings, playing with Windows and Dell sound settings, and experimenting, that the headphone audio jack still works as it should in the system itself (for example, playing videos through VLC Media Player) and in Internet Explorer. It is only in Firefox that plugging in the headphones does not send audio through the headphones nor cut out the integrated speakers.
Sometimes there is a silencing of the integrated speakers for a few seconds, but then the audio kicks in again. (I am using YouTube and a certain movie streaming website to test the audio).
However, if the headphones are plugged in before starting the videos, the sound comes through the headphones, but unplugging the headphones, then reinserting them, stimulates problem again. Not only that, but then in YouTube the video will stall and can't be restarted until the page is reloaded.
Again, this is a fresh Firefox install of less than 24 hours, with only Adblock, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addition, Flashblock, and NoScript installed. There are no themes installed and most of the Options are the defaults that are set upon installation.
I have both disabled the add-ons and uninstalled them entirely before testing the headphone funtionality. In both instances the problem persisted. I've also uninstalled and let Windows re-install the Cirrus audio drivers.
Does anyone else have any insight into this problem, and any potential solutions other than "start in Safe Mode" and "reset Firefox"?Firefox can switch audio devices within ~ a + or - 10 minute period or so (Just a guess). At which point it latches onto the audio device and will never change until the entire process is shutdown (read last paragraph, there is an exception)
Ive had this problem for a few months now, at least. And I switch back and forth from my sound system and my wireless USB headset.
If anything will fix this i believe it would be disabling "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the properties of your default audio device, but i doubt it. I think this is an issue regarding the code in firefox itself.
I'd like to see this turned into a default feature, being able to disable and enable the ability to stay on whichever device was the default at the time of launch, or to always play on the current default device, even if its changed. That or being able to choose a specific device/devices (WOULD LOVE TO THIS).
Other than that I dont really have a solution, and I kind of doubt anyone will unless its addressed in the next update.
Oh I thought of one solution that doesnt require restarting firefox, disable the current audio device and the sound will automatically switch to the next available device. Or possibly when a new device is introduced?? I havent done much testing on the matter though. This is just my best guess based on my personal experience with firefox. -

You likely have a problem with the headphone jack. You jhave to ways to listen to music via headphones:

However first I wold rule out a software problem by try the following:
Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults.
The other way is to use bluetooth headhone if you have a 2G or later iPod. -
My ipad2 headphone jack does not work
Has anyone had a problem with iPad 2 headphone jack? The jack does not work at all and the sound still comes out of the built in speaker. And yes, it is fully pushed in.
If you are convinced that there is nothing wrong with the headphones (you could try another set of headphones, ear buds whatever) and that you are pushing the headphones in firmly enough - check to make sure that nothing is impeding the connection between the jack and the opening on the iPad - dirt, debris ....
You could also reset the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. -
Windows 7 Professional HP 8540w Headphone Jack does not work
I tried everything to get my headphone jack to work. if anyone has any solutions please help. I went to the HP Support Center and download the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver that a few other users recommended but that didnt work either. I also tried the different links thinking the year each link was uploaded would help but not luck either.

Tabbed browsing does not work when i click on (+) or thru file-new tab also?
When i wish to open a new tab either by clicking mouse over the + sign on the current tab or by file-new tab menu access, tabs are not opened. it works only when clicking on links in present window. earlier i could open tabs at will.
Disable or uninstall the Ask Toolbar extension, there's a problem with it in Firefox 3.6.13.

When i plug in headphones, the sound still comes through the computer.
I have them plugged into the right slot but it comes through both the headphones and the laptop. I updated the drivers and ran a systems check with the HP Support Assistant but it couldnt find anything. Is it just a setting problem or is it something wrong with the hardware?

USB Drive does not work when connected to Airport Extreme
I had an external drive connect directly to my iMac and recently purchased an Airport Extreme. When I plugged it into the USB point on the back of the AX has an odd name and won't allow access. When it was configured directly to my iMac it was named TheVault, now it is TheVault???. When I try to access via Go>Network in finder menu, I get "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "TheVault??? cannot be found." Another detail if found in the GetInfo it that it shows 0kb available. All things point to it's existence as a drive but it has no access to the data that was clearly there when it was plugged into the back of the desktop. Jack sends.

What can I do for the following situation: I think my insert slot for the headphones does not work; when I put in any cable that should and can go in all I hear is low frequent static sounds.
You might try talking to the Apple store manager and see if you don't get more help...you might also contact Apple.com/support and see if they can give you a contact with the Apple Italy offices.
Sounds like you have two levels of failure, the first shop that did the repair and broke a wire, and the second that has disabled something else and isn't helping.
Apple officially refurbished equipment is usually good quality. Surprising this has happened but you need to press on with complaints and try for resolution. -

I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.

in iTunes 11.1 (I26) , I cannot find how to delete podcast listings showing undownloaded podcasts. Delete does not work. Option Delete does not work. Dragging to the trash does not work. Under Edit, Delete is greyed out. Mac OS 10.6.8.
Tom at the Genius Bar told me that Option Delete would work. It does not.
I had to upgrade to iTunes 11.1.(I26) because it is required with OS7 on my iPod Touch (5th Gen). I have tried shutting down iTunes, then shutting down the entire system. This is the first in many visits that the Genius Bar gave me a solution that did not work.
This is a big awkward computer locked to my desk. I would rather not unlock it and then carry it through a shopping center to the Genius Bar if i can avoid oit.

I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:

In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

Reply to all using ItemReply does not work when specifying messageid
Hello everyone,
I am trying to use the ItemReply token to perform a "Reply to All"
action on a mail item with a known message identifier and include the
original message text in the response. According to the documentation,
the call should be:
ItemReply(7;1;"message-id")
Still, when I execute this token, apparently only a normal reply action
is performed because only the original sender is listed as recipient.
(The message text is properly included)
However, when I manually select the message in the GroupWise client
first and then execute the same call without specifying the message id,
all recipients of the original mail are listed in "To:" as expected:
ItemReply(7;1)
Could it be that the "ReplyTo" parameter is ignored or does not work
when a message id is specified as parameter? (Setting "IncludeText" to 0
does not change anything)

According documentation, when MessageId is not specified it defaults to the command ItemReplyOpenItem(). I assume that the reason "Reply To all" works without a MessageID is because of that. Someone needs to give a look to ItemReply().
