HT2900 Setup allowed websites using parental controls

Any suggestions for which specific websites I could allow for my elementary aged child?  I see in the parental control content area I can list specific websites, however, I don't want to limit too much.  She will use this for school and educational and creative pursuits.

It sounds like you already know how to configure the registry, so follow the suggestion above. Basically do this:
Set up trust via the UI in an installed application.
Open the Wizard.
Go to Registry.
Drag the registry from the configured app to the new installer (Destination Computer).

  • How to Setup Allowed Websites using Customization Wizard 11

I am wondering if it is possible to add a website to the list of allowed websites for Adobe Reader using the Adobe Customization Wizard 11?
I am referring to the list of Web Sites specifically located under Edit => Preferences => Trust Manager => Internet Access from PDF Files outside the web browser => Change Settings => Web Sites.
When an allow entry gets created in this list, it is stored in the HKCU registry key at the following location:
         HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\TrustManager\cDefaultLaunchURLPerms
as a String Value named "tHostPerms" that contains the following info:  "version:2|sitename:2"
I would like to setup some of our internal websites to be allowed in this list.  I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard 11 to create a custom transform file so that when I push out Adobe Reader 11 to my clients these settings will already be setup.
Does anyone know if this can be setup using the Customization Wizard?

  • Want to use parental controls to prevent myself from being able to be on certain websites, but i can't do so on my account because i'm the administrator and parental controls don't work with the administrator. How can i do this?

go on certain websites, but i can't use parental controls on my account because i'm the administrator. How do i prevent access to websites?

Thanks for the reply, BUT --- i can't fool myself. I can make all the other accounts i want, but i'll still be able to get into the admin account and therefore have access to the websites i don't want to have access to. Is there a way to block websites from ALL accounts?

  • How can i allow java in parental control

    Hello,
I want to allow my son to play to minecraft (wich works with java) . I'm adding minecraft to the list of application that he can access (using parental controls)
But when I launch minecraft it ask me to authorize the usage of the application. When I click on always authorize (Toujours autoriser in french) , it keeps asking me the same question. I'm entering the correct admin username and passowrd.
Whenever I click Authorize once, it ask me the admin username and password and then launches minecraft. so it works.
    Thank you
    Best regards
    Jean

    Thanks Liam.
I imagined that might be the case, but had to ask in case someone found a way.
I guess I could manually set up subdomains and point them to the individual web-app items. Lot of manual work though. The main purpose would be to give customers a nice tidy URL for them to share. 'myName.thatSite.com' is much better for sharing than 'thatSite.com/profile/myName', even if it ends up showing as 'myName.thatSite.com/profile/myName'
I thought having subdomain wildcards enabled might help -  javascript might be able to redirect to the relevant item - but apparently this is not posible with current BC systems.
Do you know if BC are planning to add any API functionality to the site domain management features
Or if they'd perhaps add subdomain wild-cards?
Seems unlikely, but I wonder if this might make something possible.
    Cheers,
    Adrian

  • Can i use parental controls restrictions alone or should i purchase 3rd party software

Can I use parental control restrictions alone or should I purchase 3rd party software?

There isn't much 3rd party software can do in the way of parental controls on the iPhone due to the way apps are sandboxed.

  • I would like to know how to block a website on all of Firefox, without using parental controls.

I remember some kind of control or perhaps an add on being advertized for one of the recent beta versions of Firefox 4.0 about blocking particular websites from all viewing on Firefox, not just as a parental control. The add-ons I saw are not for 4.0 Beta 12, the version I'm on now. Can anyone steer me to this feature, if it exists? Thank you!

    Possibly BlockSite - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/blocksite
This one does not work on Firefox 4 but the developer is working on a new version.
You could use the Windows HOSTS file to block sites - http://allthingsmarked.com/2006/08/28/howto-block-websites-using-the-hosts-file

  • How do I install iTunes with a Windows 7 account that uses parental controls?

I have setup a small computer for my daughter to use, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've enabled Parental Controls through the control panel. So far, I've been unable to install iTunes for her. If I try running the installer as admin, when I try to run iTunes as her, I eventually get a message telling me that itunes64.msi was rejected by the digital signature policy. If I run the installer as her, I get a message saying the system administrator doesn't allow the app to run; I have added the installer to the list of allowed applications. Anyone know how to install iTunes in this case?

    Hi mlheidt,
If you are having trouble installing iTunes on your Windows 8 computer you may want to use the following article to help you get it up and running -

  • Hard reboot needed when I try to authorize a website with parental controls

This is the scenario I'm struggling with:
My son has parental controls set limiting the websites he can visit.  When I try to authorize a website, sometimes safari returns to the "Oops! you're not authorized" page rather than opening the site.  When this happens, I can close applications but not open any applications from the dock.  When I log off and log back in I get the spinning beach ball at the login screen and need to do a hard reboot.  When I try to authorize the site again it eventually works, but sometimes I get a dialog box that says java was trying to access a secure site.  I click OK and continue.  This doesn't happen every time I authorize a page, but often enough that it's a clear pattern.
My son's used to this and just goes for a hard reset when it happens; I'm thinking thats not acceptable.  Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
This is happening on an old white plastic 13-inch late 2009 macbook, 8MB, running OSX 10.9.4 and Safari 10.0.6.

You have a lot of extensions installed. Each one of those comes with a cost in memory and cpu resources. My advice would be to turn all the non-essential ones off. You also might want to disable add-on sync.
    *[[Disable or remove Add-ons]]
*[[How do I enable add-on sync?]]
You might also consider running [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/#aurora Firefox Aurora]. It's currently version 14 but will be updated to 15 probably tomorrow. It now prevents add-on memory use from spiraling out of control (but again they all cost some amount of memory).

  • How come when I block one website under parental controls, other websites become blocked?

I am a teacher and have found it necessary to block facebook. I am doing this under Parental Controls. Unfortunately, my students also frequent an Adobe website, I have discovered that by blocking facebook this site and others are not accessible. I then went and removed the block in Parental Controls and the Adobe site was still not accessible. I discovered that ONLY BY clicking on ALLOW UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO WEBSITES were my students once again able to access the Adobe site.
Here is URL for the Adobe site: https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/

  • Allowing applications in Parental Controls problem

    Greetings,
I set up an account for my young son with parental controls for the Finder set to Simple Finder. I checked off some games and other applications that I wanted him to have access to and included Microsoft Word in that group. For some reason, all but the MS word appear properly in his simple finder and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I checked the permissions on the MS Word application and all user classes are set to Read and Write, including "Others".
Anybody got any ideas as to what is going on? Is there another way to set the permissions that I am missing? Is this a MS plot?
Also, My neighbor has a Mac with MS Office and we tried it on his machine with the same results.
    Thanks in advance

    Tom,
I'm not surprised, probably because I had to repair Microsoft machines for years. One of the reasons they were years in federal court was because all, wordprocessors lets say, had to access one large library of files (whose name skips me). MS was charged with (among other things) purposefully modifying this proprietary file to cause WPs challenging Word in popularity to fail.
Early in 2000, the case was ordered dropped. Since then, most things made by MS for the internet won't work on Apples. (How much money is enough?)
However, My four-year old granddaughter has some suggestions for your son:
    1. Though she uses a big, italic felt-tipped pen or carpenter's pencil for writing, she also likes 72-point type on TextEdit. Although she likes Apple Chancery (because it's calligraphic, like the handwriting I teach her), AppleGothic is more like school There exists a typeface identical to that used in Kindergardens, designed for American children to imitate, but I can't currently find it. It was free, though; offered by an educational organization. Ask by e-mail alias & I can look.
    2. The 'DivX' video format shows full-screen movies beautifully over a 100 Mbps DSL. (When served by MS servers, the mpg4-based codec has been modified to be incompatible with any application not running on MS Windows, even Quicktime with [Flip4Mac|http://www.flip4mac.com/download.htm] and Windows Media Player. Though Flip4Mac was needed to view older NetFlix previews, they've been switching to Flash.
I've found that [Quicktime's extra codecs|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html] include DivX and the open source Xvid. [Stage6|http://stage6.divx.com> has some children's movies, to give you an example of DivX. DivX (or its open-source version), the new $40 Philips DVD player can play from disc (if you can find one).
    3. The free Safari plug-ins 'FlashPlayer' & 'Shockwave' are used for many free, online games offered by the educational children's networks. My granddaughter is in pre-school, but when she awakes early, she uses my account to play games, listen to stories, or prints free coloring-book pages. (She's the only person in the house I've been able to teach to use a computer correctly.)
She tells me that although there were fewer advertisements on [NickJr from Australia|http://www.nickjr.com.au>, which allows you to download Flash games to play offline, and on [NickJr in the UK|http://www.nickjr.co.uk/play/games/flashHolder.aspx?name=dora_map&type=flash &height=359&width=600], but [NickJr in the USA|http://nickjr.kids.us> seems to have caught on and is now a good site.
[PBS Kids in the USA|http://pbskids.org> is her favorite, though [Jane & the Dragon|http://www.janeandthedragon.co.nz>, offered by Qubo, is mine. The [Clever Catapult|http://www.qubo.com/veggiegames.asp?game=piewar] (her 2d favorite) and the brilliant [Orbiting Astronaut|http://www.qubo.com/321games.asp?game=spacedpenguin] (her favorite) needn't have had (in my opinion) somewhat violent aspects.
The Orbiting Astronaut (Spaced Penguins) is truly brilliant (and, like most, requires the free flashplayer and shockwave be installed), and educational for me (PhD scientist): various shots will put the astronaut into either a circular orbit, two circular orbits that fill the space between, or elliptical or figure-8 orbit that 'wobbles', its paths filling space. (These are all different solutions to non-linear differential equations that used to require supercomputers to solve!)
    4. She likes my saving each game as a weblink with an icon made from a screen capture of it. When on the road, for example, she plays many of these flash games offline, using the free [iSwiff|http://echoone.com/iswiff>, which also gives instructions for extracting the games from web pages.

  • Installing/using parental controls on a snow leopard server machine

Here is the question: Is there any way to permanently install parental controls in on a mac mini with Snow leopard server software on it?
    My situation:
I manage a computer lab of 40ish computers using Apple Remote Desktop, which does not have any support for parental controls. I have these computers set so that their P.C.s can be remotely managed, but they can only be managed from a machine which has parental controls in the system preferences. I can only manage the P.C.s from one of the other lab computers, which are under student use 90% of the time. The server mac mini did not come with the P.C.s preference pane, and so it is fairly useless on that front.
I have tried various methods of getting around these blocks. I was able to copy the parental controls .prefpane file from one of the lab computers on to the server, and when I ran it, it installed into my server computer and placed the preference pane in System Preferences. For a brief minute I was able to manage the lab computers' P.C.s, but once I restarted System Preferences, the P.C. preference pane disappeared, and will not re-install or anything (I get a "it is not available to you at this time" message).
Is there any way to use the server to manage parental controls?

    Hi
+"Is there any way to permanently install parental controls in on a mac mini with Snow leopard server software on it?"+
I don't think so? Besides there's no need for it. Parental Controls is available as a Managed Preference (or MCX) using WorkGroup Manager either at Users, Group or Hardware Level. Launch the application and click on the Preferences icon and you'll see what I mean.

  • Cannot block TV show content using parental controls

    Hello.
I am unable to block my young son from downloading South Park TV shows via itunes 8. I have tried using the parental controls for both the USA & UK options, but the show seems to be unrated and therefore not caught by the parental controls.

  • TS2972 "select share" of home share on itunes - is home share an all or nothing share? Is there a way to use parent controls to share some portions with children's iphones?

Is home share an all or nothing selection, or is there a way to "select share" with children's 5c iphones. Parent control feature to home share?
    Thanks in advance!

I can't promise this works as I haven't tested this however on every iOS Device in the Settings app under General & Restrictions you have the ability to restrict a ton of options.
Here's my two cents which you could try:
On the iOS Device go to settings -> General -> Restrictions
Go to the Music section, the TV Shows section, & Movies Section and select the appropriate rating you want your kids to have access to.
After setting this up try accessing the home sharing and see if the content you want blocked still shows up on their devices.
If the content still shows up then:
On iTunes on your PC or Mac find the content you wish to block (Home Movies, Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc)
Right click on the items you want blocked and change the rating (for example to R or NC-17).
I haven't tried this myself however on paper at least I think it should work.  If it does please report back and let everyone know and congrats on the new phones
