HT2905 Display Duplicates missing

I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and I can't seem to find the display duplicates key under the File tab.  Am I missing something or was this removed on a newer version.

The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library. Note that, as with the iTunes feature, this list makes no distinction between "originals" and "dupes", you have to decide which is which.
There is also my DeDuper script for automatically removing duplicates copies but keeping one remaining copy of each set. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send the others to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file. Same advice to backup applies.
I'm not sure why this is such a big issue now. I can only assume the new layout makes dupes more irritating than before for people who've put up with them.

  • HT2905 "Display Duplicates" in iTunes 11

There doesn't seem to be a "Display Duplicates" item under Files in iTunes 11.  Anyone know where it might be found?  I love it when they change versions but don't change the Help answers.

  • HT2905 What happened to the "Display Duplicates" in iTunes 11?

Just updated to iTunes 11 and thought I'd do a little cleaning up.  But I can't find the File > Display Duplicates or better yet, the File > Display Exact Duplicates.  Is it gone?  Or is there now a different (hopefullly better!) way to get rid of duplicates in iTunes 11?

  • HT2905 My version of iTunes doesn't show "Display Duplicates"  let alone display Exact duplicates.  Any ideas?

Display duplicates is not an option under my File menu.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Fred

The Show Duplicate Items command is under the View menu if you're running iTunes 11.0.1 or later.
    Regards.

  • HT2905 When I select File Display Duplicates   there is no option to "Display Dulicates" or am I going nuts?

When I select File. "Display duplicates" is not in the list what am I doing wrong here?

Make sure you are using the latest iTunes.
This was removed in iTUnes 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 but reinstated after that.
It is now in the View menu (not File menu).

  • HT2905 I updated the latest itunes software and Display Duplicates is no longer under the file menu. How do I get rid of all the duplicates?

I just upgraded the itunes on my PC and the display duplicates option is no longer found under the FILE menu. How do I get rid of the MANY duplicate songs I have in my library with out the display duplicates option? HELP

Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See thisthread for background and please take note of the warning tobackup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Note if some of the duplicate items have the iCloud link icon sign out of the store, then sign in again.

  • HT2905 I can't find the option "Display duplicates" under File

I'm trying to clean my itunes library and remove all the duplicate items. I read the article How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library and it tells to click on File>Display Duplicates, but I don't have that option under my File. What should I do?

Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to reveal the exact duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each repeating group to remove. If the duplicates were added recently sorting on date added and deleting the recent additions can be straightforward, although you'll want to make sure there really two sets of files with the same content before you throw any away otherwise you may find your remaining tracks have been broken by the clean-up process.
Use my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.

  • HT2905 Display exact duplicates is grayed out - cannot access

When I go to View, Display Exact Duplicates, it is grayed out - cannott access. Even if I could access, will it give me option to delete all duplicates?

Make sure you have updated to iTunes 11.0.1 (or later).
Enable the menu bar with ctrl-b if needed
Use Edit > Preferences > General > Show list views for all media
In Music use the Songs view, or select the List view for other media/playlists
Use View > Display Duplicates or, more usefully,  hold Shift and use View > Display Exact Duplicates.
Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up.
