HT2954 unable to set up yahoo account in Mail

Why did my Mail (IMAP) suddenly quit when I upgraded my OSX recently? Support with my server, is clueless and says that Mac is not compatible with Yahoo, that I must use Yahoo. I do not like Yahoo! I want my Mail! Now, Yahoo is totally messing up...have two separate email addys, and one is still receiving mail, but will not load any of my sent, drafts, or spam folders. Had to stop using that one, and am now using my ONLY email address left out of three! I want my Mail back!! Can anyone help??

Hello, any messages or errors?
Is this how you did it?

Is this happening when you try to receive mail, or send mail? When you create the account, does it verify? You should see a message that it is verifying, and if it does.

  • Setting up Yahoo account on MAIL

So I started up Mail for the first time and prompted me for my email and my password. So I enter the required information and this seems to always pop up.
"Trying to log into mail server "pop.mail.yahoo.com" failed. THis server may require an additional fee for Yahoo POP access."
    Any ideas?

My understanding is that the free Yahoo service is only browser based.
I find this at their site:
    Mail Plus
Get personalized spam filtering with SpamGuard Plus, 20MB message size, no graphical ads, POP access and forwarding, and more great features for just $19.99/year - that's less than $2/month.
Look like you need to sign up for this service to get POP access.

  • Deleting emails from a yahoo account through Mail

I am new to the Apple and I am able to get my emails from my yahoo account, but I believe that there is a way to delete the messages from my yahoo account through MAIL. Can I set Mail up automatically to delete these messages from my Yahoo account? Am I correct and if so, how is this done?
Otherwise, it does not seem very useful to access my yahoo account through Mail because I will have to go back to my yahoo account and clean through them anyway.
    Thanks

Presumably you have a paid-for Yahoo account which permits POP* access (the free account doesn't). If you have this set up in Mail, go to Mail Preferences>Accounts>the Yahoo account: click 'Advanced' and tick 'Remove copy from server after retrieving a message' (though actually this is the default so it ought already to be ticked): set the pop-up menu below this to 'Right away'.

  • I can't recieve or send e-mails from my yahoo account in mail. Also, what should I do to repair the screen of my iPad 2 if I don't have any Apple warranty?

For some unknown reason, I have been having issues when sending and recieving e-mails from my Yahoo account in mail on my iPad, but can use mail just fine on my iPhone. Why is this, and how do I fix it?
I accidentally dropped my iPad 2 on Monday, it hit my foot, and the screen cracked. I recieved this iPad some time in August 2011, and no longer have any sort of warrany on it. Should I take it in to Apple and get a replacement, or have a third party fix it? And if so, how much would it cost, and where should I go?

I am glad we were able to get your email working again. Please reach out anytime you need us.
    Thanks,

  • Setting the standard account in Mail

I would like to set my standard account in Mail.
    - I have two IMAP accounts.
    - When I click Inbox, and thus view the joint inbox of the two, and click new mail, it automatically chooses an account to send from.
    - In the same way, it chooses an account to send from whenever i'm not in the account specific inbox.
It does not choose the account I want -- and I cannot find out where to change it?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Mail -> Preferences -> Composing
Select the account in the dropdown labeled "Send new mail from:"
It should currently say "Account of last viewed mailbox"

  • Setting up an account on Mail

I've bought a domain name and tried to set up an account on Mail. Mail won't recognise it and keeps asking for my password - which I've given - and keeps rejecting it. The domain name sellers say it's probably a Mail specific problem and suggested that I 'contact Mac'.
Any suggestions - or things I should be looking for - gratefully received.
    Chris

I've checked the correct mail server settings and I've just sent them an e-mail to check the authentication method, but surely it can't be that if I can't even get on to the system?
As I say, when setting up the account, Mail goes through its checking procedure and my settings get past that.
I'm going away for a couple of days, so please don't feel offended if I don't reply quickly to any more suggestions - but I really appreciate your help!

  • Trying to set up yahoo account on ipad

  • Can't set up Yahoo account on Mac Mail

    Here's hoping someone can help!!
I'm trying to set up my Yahoo account on Mac Mail and my week old Mac (running OS X 10.10/Yosemite) is simply refusing to let me!
I've tried adding the account through Add Account in the Mail app, and by adding it through System Preferences: it either simply keeps returning to the initial set up screen (Mail) or it says 'Cannot connect to the server 'Unknown' (System Preferences).
I have had a look through the all the help pages, but I can't find anything which might help me out - can anyone make a suggestion?!
I have set up my business email (IMAP) and that is working fine.  I have also got my Yahoo account on my MacBook and it works fine so I'm fairly confident it's nothing to do with my Yahoo account...
    What am I doing wrong?!
    Thanks in advance...

Typically, right after I posted this, I managed to do it!!
For the benefit of anyone else: rather than choosing Yahoo from the menu, I clicked 'Add Another Account' (thinking I could manually add the IMAP settings|) and it worked...didn't even need to input them myself...

  • Unable to connect to Yahoo account using Contacts and Calendar

For the last week or so, I've been unable to connect to Yahoo's CardDAV or CalDAV servers from Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders. Every time I open either application, it asks for my password, and when I enter it, it says "the server returned an error" and asks for the password again. My Yahoo account still works with Mail and Messages.

Try this, which worked for me:
    - Close Contacts
    - Log into Yahoo.
    - Go to Account Info (usually the gear sing)
    - Under "Sign In And Security Settings" click on "manage apps and webiste connections"
    - Remove/delete all links and connections to your Mac and Contacts.
    - Open contacts.
This worked for me, and I had been struggling with it for about a year.

  • Unable to set up gmail account

I have opened an email account with gmail on the Google website. I have tried to set this gmail account to open in my Mac mail, but it will not receive emails and is telling me that port 110 has timed out. Is anyone able to help? Thanks

Hi, so you set it up as POP instead of IMAP?
If POP, is the 2nd method here how you did it?

    Also...
    Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:

  • Unable to re-add gmail account to Mail app

I'm trying to re-setup a Google email account that I deleted from my Macbook Pro (Yosemite). I get the following message when trying to set it up in Internet Accounts:
There was a problem setting up the Mail account.
Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "mydomain.com".
If I click OK, my contacts, Calendar, and Messages accounts are all configured. Only the Mail account isn't checked (or setup in Mail). When I try to check the box, it immediately unchecks with no error given.
I noted the following log entries in the system log, not sure if they are related:
11/9/14 1:23:38.770 PM com.apple.preferences.internetaccounts.remoteservice[3960]: Neither of UserNameIsEmailAddress or UserNameMatchesEmailAddress were set for [email protected], pretending that UserNameMatchesEmailAddress is set
11/9/14 1:25:17.190 PM com.apple.internetaccounts[3656]: MailIAPlugin: Tried to get settings for nonexistent account with uid 742A58F4-EC5A-45F3-B007-7DDF57EE6D67
    11/9/14 1:25:17.241 PM icbaccountsd[4192]: Connection error while checking Apple Internalness. Error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4099 "Couldn’t communicate with a helper application." (The connection to service named com.apple.CrashReporterSupportHelper was invalidated.) UserInfo=0x7fb90b4236d0 {NSDebugDescription=The connection to service named com.apple.CrashReporterSupportHelper was invalidated.}
I've tried setting the account up manually ("Add Other Account...") but that also failed. I've tried repairing within Disk Utilities. I've restart multiple times.
I've verified that IMAP is enabled for this account. I am able to set this account up in the third party app Postbox (another email client for mac) with no issues.
There must be something wrong with my local configuration and I'm out of ideas. Help?

precisely the same issue on 2 computers on 10.9 and 10.10
    - the accounts are google apps for business accounts
    - imap is on
    - 2 step verification is off
    - upgrading the 10.9 machines resulted in the same issue/error
    - running onyx and cleaning out everything did nothing
    - trashing mail prefs nothing
    - creating new user account on the macs...same issue
    - i can setup the accounts on my own 10.10 machine (ios also works for those 2 accounts)
completely dead in the water....my next step to try is to clean install the 2 effected machine....

  • Have deleted a Yahoo account from Mail but it keep asking for password

My Mail on the iMac has several email accounts for my wife and I, we have recently deleted my wifes Yahoo account because of spam mail, as well as deleting it through Yahoo, the email account in Mail was removed. Ever since we have been receiving prompts for the password to the deleted account. I have checked through preferences and there is definitely no reference to the account. thanks mende1 - I have lion and have checked as you have mentioned above - the email account is not listed there - it's still asking for the password though

  • Set up  Hotmail account in Mail

I don't know how to set up my hotmail account in Mail. I need to know what is the name of the incoming/outgoing server and as well what type of server it is. I have contact hotmail staff but they told me that this feature is not possible so far in Mac, but I am surprise about this answer. Has somebody tried so far of mac user that have hotmail accounts?
    Thanks for the help!

I have just had this problem. I am at a loss while Apple will not give us a Mail application that supports http mail out of the box. Surely they realise that most people have a Hotmail or a similar free account... Makes me so angry
Anyway I am using the Daniel Parnell plug in:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/developer/10364/Daniel+Parnell
It used to work faultlessly (and still does) but to get it working on an Intel machine you need to set Mail to open using Rosetta. You can do this using Finder, then Get Info, then check the Open in Rosetta box.
