Thank you for advise, will try apple store  another thing how can I increase my ramm and memory
Check your machine's actual specifications here.
It looks like you can support up to 3 MByte in a 17" iMac and up to 4 Mbyte in a 20" iMac, if your cache size coordinates with the specs on the linked page.
OWC says you should be able to put 4 Gbyte into your machine here.  Wherever you get the memory, it would be a good addition.  This is the Apple Store listing for your machine, as near as I can figure it.

Open the Mac App Store and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, and if the computer has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and at least 2GB of RAM, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

check that your current Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If it does... then you need to Purchase the Snow Leopard Disc and Install it.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Would Also Recommend that you do a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive Before attempting any Major Upgrade...
By far the easiest way to make a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/

  • How can i updated my mac mini 1st gen.

i am running a version 10.3.9 now how can i updated it

To reinforce what Niel said, you want the "RETAIL" version of the discs. Those are the discs with silver or white lettering on a black background. The discs with a silvery grey background are unique to a specific Mac computer model and highly unlikely to work on your mini. When buying on eBay, do not depend on the seller to know what they have or even that there is a difference. Question them closely and maybe even get them to send a color picture of the specific discs you will be buying.

  • How can I update my Mac from OS X 10.5.8 to OS X 10.7?

I am trying to update my kids Mac so that they can get I tunes to work on a brand new Ipod touch and I must have atleast OS X 10.7 to get the Itunes update - how do I do this??

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • How can I update my Mac OS X 10.5.8 software?

Last Novemember I had bought myself the new nano, and I went home and hooked it up to my MacBook to sync it to my iTunes and saw that I was not able to do that because my software was not up-to-date. I spent all day on the apple web site trying to download all the software updates in order form olderst to newest, so I would be able to update my software new enough that it would be compatable to my nano. After the whole day of downloading I still wasn't able to make any process of updating my laptop at all. I need help.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • How can i update my mac os x 10.4.11

I currently have an old macbook with mac os x 10.4.11 software. I am looking to update my software with the latest update available. Where should i begin and what update should i use?

You can upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under 10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications  http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/   I recently upgraded an older MacBook (1,1) from 10.4 to 10.6.
If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least1gb of RAM and 5gb offree space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
A 10.5 Leopard disk willrun you over $150
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any PowerPC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With10.7 Lion Apple dropped support for Power PC applications.

  • How can I update my mac it hasn't been updated since 2011

My mac hasn't been updated in a while and it randomly deletes itunes. Each time I download it again its back on an old version of itunes and most of my music disappears. I'm not sure if it's because it needs to be updated. please help

Use Spotlight and check how many copies of iTunes application you have on your computer.
It's unlikely it absolutely has to be updated.  iTunes is either going to work under a certain system version or it isn't.  I run a copy of iTunes dating from year 2007 on a computer dating from year 2002 with system software dating from year 2005 and I don't lose music.

  • How can i update my Mac OS X software?

before i start im the newbiest newbie with macs.
Im currently Using a powermac G4 with 10.5.8
I've tried installing programs like Google Chrome and Spotify but when i put them in the applications folder theres a crossed circle over it and wont let me run it.
What can i do to fix this problem?
    Links would be very helpful.
    Thanks.

Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.
