HT3180 apple tv usb itunes

when i switched the input on my tv to the apple tv, the screen shows a picture of the back of the apple tv with a usb cord pointed towards the iTunes image, and doesn't respond to any buttons???

The device is in recovery mode, connect it to a computer running iTunes via a microUSB cable and restore.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

That is telling that the Apple TV is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. This is done by connecting to iTunes via micro USB.

  • I want to restore my 3rd gen apple tv using itunes

    Please help me folks!
I'm trying to restore my 3rd gen apple tv through itunes as I can't do it through the apple tv itself. I have followed the instructions to the letter; 1) open itunes 2) plug micro USB cable in to back of apple tv box and connect to laptop using USB port 3) connect apple tv box to power source.
Did that! However, my apple tv device DID NOT SHOW UP in my itunes at all. So now I am stuck with a 3rd gen apple tv device that won't let me restart it using the remote OR using itunes.
Suggestions please. Don't fancy spending over £100 on another one.
    Kind regards

Sometimes if iTunes doesn't see a device for me, whether my iPhone or iPad, a simple restart of my Mac is usually enough to get it working. I wonder some of the same tips that Apple lists for iOS devices not being recognized by iTunes would work for Apple TV as well.

  • Apple iPod USB Device driver issue on Win XP - syncing shuffle 2nd gen.

Hello fellow iPod shuffle users. Any of you run into this problem using the following configurations? Any advise/recommendations/workarounds much appreciated as I've burned 3 days on this issue and I'm still stonewalled.
I personally think it's a device driver issue/bug and am searching for a way to update my Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Two brand new ipod shuffles (received for Christmas 2008) are both behaving this way, so the problem most likely points to a global software issue more-so than to shuffle hardware issue.
PROBLEM STATEMENT: Driver data i/o streaming issue does not allow shuffle to sync data with iTunes after initial sync (i.e. reading the content of the shuffle is good, but writing modified content fails). Posted error message "The ipod ... cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found". After cracking the hood on my device driver, the problem seems to point to the Apple iPod USB device driver for Win XP. Driver will recognize the shuffle and read to it, but subsequent write attempts will result in device driver balks that "this device cannot start (code 10)".
    ATTEMPTED WORKAROUNDS:
*Read All "How to Get Started Manuals" to make sure I was using the right technique for syncing my two shuffles from within iTunes... tried and failed
*Ensure only one shuffle was plugged in at a time (saw notice that two shuffles plugged in at the same time is not yet a supported config)... tried and failed
*The 5 R's as recommended by Apple Support... tried and failed.
*I've tried all 3 built in USB ports on my Lenovo T60. no love... tried and failed.
*Per discussion board: From Window's Device Manager-> Scaned for new hardware while shuffle was syncing...tried and failed.
    * Per Discussion board: From Window's Disk Management -> Ensured shuffle came up as a FAT32 filesystem... connection tore down as quickly as windows recognized it.... tried and failed.
*From Windows Software config utility: Ran repair to re-install itunes 8... same results.
*From Windows software management utility: Uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8... same results.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad/Lenovo T60. Using build in k/b & no external mouse. Has 3 USB built in ports.
Software: Windows XP Pro SP2/iTunes 8.0.2/shuffle (2nd gen) driver 1.0.4 (same behavior using the original driver 1.0.3).
    Apple iPod USB Device properties:
    Driver Provider - Microsoft
    Driver Date - 7/1/2001
    Driver Version - 5.1.2535.0
Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows Publisher

Hi. Ive got pretty much the same problem.... Got a new shuffle for christmas..having real problems syncing with itunes. Funnily enough I managed to get 25 tracks on it but then it just stopped. error message says " The ipod shuffle cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." Ive done restore, and downloaded a reset utility thingy to try but still no joy.

  • Apple IPod USB Device Driver Not Installed?  WIndows not reconizing IPod!

Hoping someone can help me with my new Ipod Nano. I installed the IPod Updater and Itunes programs from the provided CD and formatted the Ipod. That all works fine -- the Ipod actually works, etc.
But during the actuall instation process, the Hardware Update Window came up for the 'Apple IPod USB Device' (I use Windows XP) I've tried to have it install automaticaly and manualy, without any luck. As a result, when the IPod is connected to the computer, I get a '!' on the device in Windows Explorer and neither ITunes or the Ipod Updater -- or Windows -- will reconize it!
If I connect my Ipod to the computer, the 'hardware' icon comes up in my system tray and the Ipod screen changes to the 'Do not disconnect' message. I can click on the hardware icon to 'remove' it. But I can't DO anything with the Ipod if nothing will reconize it!
I've tried updating the ITunes and Updater to the latest versions, plugged the USB cable into different spots on my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, this time selecting the 'do not connect the Ipod to the computer at this time' option.....nothing. Windows just will NOT reconize the IPod and everytime I install the software I get that Hardware Update Window screen up!
Is there a driver for this I'm missing somewhere? What's going on? I can't do anything with my IPod and can't even find a phone number to call Apple for help!

This might be an issue with your operating system. You might also want to try using it on another computer before calling them as they'll probably ask you to do so. This will isolate the problem to your computer and they might tell you to try calling Windows or getting the latest drivers for your computer.

    Hi, stig2013.
I would recommend the steps in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If you are receiving an error message, find the exact error number that you recieved in the article below and process the steps.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
    Cheers,
    Jason H.

  • Apple Ethernet USB adapter in Windows 8.1?

I'm not able to get my Ethernet (Lan-connection) to work on my 2013 MBP with the Apple Ethernet USB adapter.  I've gotten drivers loaded up for the adapter and it seems to be working...just Windows 8.1 gives an error that it can't connect to the internet because "incorrect IP address"??

Excellent and thanks for the "spot on" tip!  I only wish I had found it before bringing up a different compter to re-sync my Apple mobile products, which of course meant I had to rebuild my libraries on that system.
On Windows 8.1 64 bit I did find the steps to be a little different from what Steven outlined and for those less compfortable with technology I thought I would include a version edited for Windows 8.1 64 bit specifically.
Connect You Apple Mobile device to the PC with iTunes.
In the PC's Device Manager expand the "Portable Devices" entry.
Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose "Update Driver Software" from the shortcut menu.
Choose the option to "Browse my computer for driver software" and browse to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers and highlight that folder for the driver update.
Click "OK" then "Next" and your Apple mobile device should now be rocognized (verify this in iTunes)
Repeat for any other Apple mobile dvices synced on this computer.
    All credit to Steven, however!

HHola I update my Apple TV and I am frozen screen with the photo of Apple TV and iTunes symbol and a cable connected from one to another device, it happens and how to fix it Apple TV

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • HT3180 Apple TV blinks rapidly

My Apple TV started blinking rapidly in the middle of the night when the tv was off. The next day when I tried to use Apple TV,  I couldn't access anything.
The screen was blank. Then finally there was a graphic of the iTunes icon with a USB connector and an arrow which I think was indicating me to connect the Apple TV box to iTunes on my computer via USB cable. The only problem is that it seem the only USB interface is like a micro USB. I thought it would apple style USB cable.Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you fix it?

That is correct, you need to use a micro usb cable and restore through iTunes

  • Any way to repair iPad that has USB -- iTunes image without a computer?

My parents‘ iPad won't boot and just shows a USB--> iTunes image.  They are using the iPad as their sole computer for a few months and are currently traveling, so they really need it. Is there any way to fix their iPad without hooking it up to another computer, or do they need to wait until they can get to an Apple store?

Sorry, but there is no way activate the iPad, update the software, restore, etc. without connecting to iTunes on a computer.

  • Cannot connect any of my Apple devices to iTunes.

    Hi All
I cannot connect any of my Apple devices to iTunes. Initially after connecting the device I would receive an unable to sync error, but I have since reinstalled iTunes and when I connect either my iPhone (I have an iPhone 5 and an iPhone5s, both of which happily connected in the past) or iPad mini, iTunes does not even see the devices (the devices are listed under preferences).
My iOS is up to date on all devices and I have tried different USB ports and cables, but no difference.
I am running WIndows 8 with all updates to date. I have Vipre Security, but turning off the firewall makes no difference and I can see that all Apple connections are available and not blocked. I have checked Apple Mobile Device and stopped and started services
I haven't been able to connect for almost a month now, so would appreciate some help.
I have already contacted support and was given information on how to check my WifI connection - not particularly useful!
    DJ

but I have since reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • Itunes update locks phone to usb/itunes logo screen

So for the past year whenever apple has an update it messes with my phone. This as I said first happened about a year ago. I updated my phone and in the middle of doing so itunes errored out and I was unable to continue with the update. My phone was not locked on the usb/itunes logo. itunes did not see the phone when I plugged it in and nothing worked. I called apple support and was on the phone with them off and on for most of the day. We uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, she had me deleting files from my computer that may cause a problem etc...finally when they couldn't figure out what was wrong I was told it was a hardware issue that was brought to the forfront of the OS since the update. (Not a happy camper at this point). Thankfully it was one day before my warranty was up and apple replaced the phone. The problem however now was I needed to backup my phone and update it again. When I did this I was still having the same issue as the old phone. It was locked on the usb/itunes screen. In complete frustration after having spent a good day trying to get my phone working while dealing with my apple withdrawl I plugged it into my home desktop computer. All of the sudden iTunes on that computer recognized that there is a computer that needs to be restored. I follow the prompts restore the phone to factory settings, connect it to my laptop when it is done and restore the phone with my personal backup. I still see people being told it is a hardware issue....fast forward one year and a couple updates later and this long process being repeated every time. The new OS is now coming out becuase of the new phone being released. I decide while at work to update my phone being impatient and not thinking I update it to only have the exact same thing happen again. Now I am without a phone all day as I am at work and only have my laptop with me. I have been frantically searching the internet for a solution when I see a suggestion that you move the usb cord to another port on your computer. (I have a couple but tend to just use the same one) I move the cord to a different usb port on the computer and what do you know but iTunes sees the phone, sees that it needs to be resotred and starts the process. So if you are having the same problem I am move the usb cord to another port and try it from there. I am not a professional but have a working knowlege of computers and wish with all my heart that apple would find out why it's doing this (I am one of many many people having this problem) instead of giving the same "it's a hardware issue". If that were true then I would not have been able to plug the same phone into the same computer with the same cords etc and have it work only when I moved to a different usb port. Clearly there is a glitch in the software of iTunes that is not seeing the phone in that particular port after the updates error out. Hope this helps others with this issue. For the record other than this updating issue that I have managed to work around and find a solution for I love my iPhone and all it can do. Maybe I can be an apple Genius now?

Which version of iTunes are you using? Which version of OS 10.4?
