  • Where to find the factory reset for Shuffle 3rd gen?

My dad just bought a preowned iPod Shuffle 3rd generation.  We are needing to do a factory reset on it.  I tried to do the conventional way after plugging the Shuffle into the USB port.  After scanning for a while, it said it can't do a factory reset and gave me an error code of 1436.  I went to the page for that error and tried to download the reset utility for iPod Shuffle.  It said it wouldn't work on mine, it only works on 1st and 2nd gen.  I've looked everywhere for the utility manager for the 3rd generation.  I'm at a loss.  Can anyone help?

    *Bump*
    Anyone?

  • I updated my apple tv 3rd gen to 5.1 just...after updating my trailers and photostream icons were gone. Had to facotry reset, then sign in again...after a while icons were gone again...

First I would charge it for an hour and then:
    - Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Next would be to place the ipod n recovery mode and then try to restore it via iTunes. For recovery mode see:

  • Cannot Restore Apple TV (3rd Gen)

My problem began when I ran into the notorious problem of the Apple TV (3rd Gen) crashing after auto-installing the latest update. Specifically, ever since the update, it will only boot to the Apple logo. Rebooting simply returns it to the logo. I figured I might've been impatient, so I let it sit for a long while, only to come back maybe an hour later to find it still frozen on the logo.
So I tried to restore it to factory settings via iTunes, but this has led to my current problem -- Neither my PC (Win 7) nor iTunes will recognize the device.  I followed the standard 3rd gen method of connecting: Connect via micro USB (data cable, not charge cable), connect power. It fails to appear in iTunes, device diagnostics show no devices connected, and Windows doesn't appear to even acknowledge its connection.  I've tried unplugging and replugging power and USB multiple times in different orders with no change in results. (Hilariously, for one brief moment, it did show up in iTunes -- as my iPhone!?)
I can verify power is working as I can see the optical port lit red when connected.
I seem to have hit a brick wall, and I'm almost certain this is a software problem (as opposed to bad hardware) given it crashed immediately after the update.
This is the USB cable I'm using: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JWPENRU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF 8&psc=1

  • Apple TV (3rd gen) won't turn on...please help

My Apple TV (3rd gen) won't connect to my TV. It blinks 3 times, so i tried to reset it, but nothing happened. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem. Thanks.

Can someone please help me? My apple tv (3rd gen) continues to blink 3 times and won't respond. I've tried doing different things that I've read through the manuel & forms: (1) holding down menu and FF for 6 seconds to pair the remote (2) unplugging the apple tv and waiting 30 seconds
After apple tv was unplugged, it looked fine when it turned back on...but, once again the same problem remains and my apple tv remote will not work.
Hopefully, someone can help me solve this problem.
    Thanks.

    Hello Freytag,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Pro was getting recurring kernel panics when using an external display.
First, I recommend troubleshooting the connection with the external display.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to the internal display.  I recommend reviewing the section titled "No video or no signal, image distortion, 'snow,' or flickering" in the article below.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but the following steps specifically stands out to me for the situation you are experiencing:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
If you continue expereince kernel panics, I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" in the article below to help isolate and troubleshoot this issue:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV 3rd gen to a projector and not an HD TV (so I can watch movies on the big screen). Are there any decent price compatible projectors? Good quality but not professional! Many thanks

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception.  If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.
    Many Thanks

  • TS3972 How can I access the files(movies, music, etc) in my Apple Time Capsule(4th Gen) from my Apple TV(3rd Gen). This is very frustrating Apple has not provided a basic feature, and me buying the Time Capsule and Apple TV is an complete waste of bucks.

I have an Apple TV (3rd Gen) and Apple Time Capsule (4th Gen). How can I access Movies and Music stored in the Time Capsule from Apple TV. This is very  n't give frustrating that Apple doesn't give their customers with an straight forward access to their customers in between their own products. Iam repenting that buying these products is completely waste of bucks. Appreciate your help...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Time Capsule is clearly announced as a router with a hard drive to make backups, not to store anything and share it with your Apple TV.
To access to movies and music from the Time Capsule, note that the Apple TV can only access to them if they are stored in your iTunes library, so you will have to put your movies and music into iTunes to access to them, and then, put your iTunes library on the Time Capsule in order to access to your data from there

  • Apple TV 3rd Gen no longer sees Airport Express 1st gen in Airplay after update

Apple TV 3rd gen was connected to AirPort Express 1st gen via WiFi, drove a video device via HDMI
and sent audio to the AirPort using Airplay and selecting the AirPort Express under Speakers.
I could adjust the volume with the AppleTV remote.
Apple TV was stored unused for a while.
After powering on yesterday, I ran the update.
Now Apple TV is connected to the Airport Express via WiFi
but Airport Express doesn't show in AirPlay settings.
I can still use AirPlay from my MacBook running Snow Leopard.
There are no updates available for the AirPort

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Can't Login to YouTube on Apple TV (3rd Gen) (YT and Gmail merged)

So, I am unable to log in to my YouTube account on my Apple TV (3rd Gen).  I have read a lot of suggestions and nothing has helped.  In like 2006 I got my YouTube User Name, then in like 2009 I got my Gmail.  Google bought YouTube, they merged so I have a YouTube UN and Gmail Account.  I've tried logging in with each.  I've tried using the the 2-step verification, and application specific password.  But to no avail, not working.  Im getting either this Username can't be used on this device for the gmail account log in info.  And unable to login with this Username/password for YouTube UN.
Anyone have any suggestions!  This is really frustrating!
    Thanks Brad

I had problems back way back in the day with my gmail login so I made a new one (youtube user) for test and that worked fine
not even sure it's possible anymore to make a pure youtube user you can troubleshoot by checking if it is

    Hi jaredfox06,
If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay.  To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
    Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV is connected using Ethernet, make sure that it’s plugged in to the router you're using for Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > AirPlay.

  • When watching my Apple TV (3rd gen) the picture jumps a few frame every few seconds, this happens when I rent a film or play back from my new Mac Pro, my Wifi is the Airport Express.

When watching my Apple TV (3rd gen) the picture jumps a few frames every few seconds, this happens when I rent a film or play back from my new Mac Pro, my Wifi is the Airport Express.

These may be different issues, but lets look at rentals first.
Poor motion can result from mismatched output. If your source is 24 or 30 fps you should set the output of the Apple TV to 60 Hz, for 25 fps content use 50 Hz.
Additionally motion software on the TV itself can cause the picture to jump, check your TV settings and turn off any motion settings in use,

  • Using Apple TV (3rd gen) as a remote speaker from original Apple TV (1st gen)

Just got my new Apple TV (3rd gen) - discovered I can't AirPlay to multiple speakers from it like my old Apple TV (1st gen). As a workaround, can I use the old Apple TV just for music, using the new Apple TV as one of its airplay speakers? Can't seem to. The 3rd gen Apple TV doesn't appear on the original apple TVs list of airplay speakers. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, and thanks for your reply.
Yes, that does work - from iTunes I can see both apple TVs fine as options in the multiple airplay speakers - I was just really hoping to leave the main computer off and play my music from either the original apple tv's hdd or my iphone.
Prior to buying the new 3rd gen Apple TV I had been doing that for a while, using the original Apple TV to airplay music to speakers connected to its own optical out and via airplay to an express in the dining room.
It's odd that I can see both apple TVs and the express from the multiple speakers option from iTunes, but I can only see the express (and itself) from the original apple TV's multiple speakers menu. (Original Apple TV has been updated to latest software.) Maybe it's just too old to know about the new Apple TV.
Has anyone managed to get an original Apple TV to airplay to multiple speakers where one of those speakers is another Apple TV?
