HT3209 New $799 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 MINI cannot rent 1080
I have the new $799 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 MINI and I cannot rent 1080 iTunes movie, this is silly because the cheaper $599 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 meet the Spec to rent 1080 movies.. I didnt pay more to get less function.. What can Apple do to FIX this!!!!
Minimum system requirements for HD 1080p1 content
Mac system requirements for HD 1080p1 content:
Mac OS X 10.5 or later
iTunes 10.6 or later
2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
At least 2 GB of RAM
Since there is no option on the configuration page
in the Apple Store it is pretty obvious that you can't.

hello i've just bouth my new imac 27" ( spring 2011) with quad core i7 3,4ghz 4gb ram and 2gb ati radeon graphics..
I've proceded with the migration assistent and just copied my old configurations, programs and datas from the old one ( imac late 2009 27" 8gb ram intel core duo 3,06 ghz, 256mb ati radeon graphics) to the new one...now they are twins with boot lion 10,7,2..what i've just discovered? that the old one is a litttle faster than the new one.
photoshop is opening faster
and more or less all the adobe suite..
is that a joke? how is that possible? i can think that the issue is all about the RAM (4gb new imac, 8gb old imac)..
could someone help me please?
thankyou.
AndreAs far as I am aware iMacs do not have upgradeable CPUs.

2.3Ghz Quad Core i7 for development?
My work is mainly web development both on the backend and the frontend, and I am wondering if the MacBook Pro with Retina Display 2.3Ghz i7 would be up to the job. I'd have Safari, Chrome and Firefox/Camino (cross-browser testing) open as well as Coda/TextMate, xCode, Photoshop and Parallels Desktop open. It would also be hooked up to my TV for some occasional gaming. I'd also have some terminals open to my servers for provisioning.
I've ordered it already, but I'm just wondering: do you think it'll be up for it?
Fionnit should work fine for what you are going to be using it for.....
do remember that you're using a quad core i7 which has more than enough power to handle it...
just make sure you max out your RAM to 16GB for your apps to run smoothly and efficiently.
good luck... -
RealVNC with Quad Core Mac Mini "Refresh Issues"
Upgraded my Mac Mini server from a dual core to Quad Core machine. Headless machine, hence used RealVNC to administrator it. So when I utilised RealVNC, connecting via an ipad and the quad core machine had "Refresh Issues"!! Went back to the Dual Core machine and you can view everything in real-time! Can't explain it and the RealVNC people can't understand it either, yet!!!???
It has a wired ethernet connection, the wireless is on but more for "location" services. And no USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices attached, in fact it's headless, and only the power and ethernet connection attached. But interesting to learn of the wireless issues on the new mini's. Thanks!

I have a MacBook Pro to use at work. It has everything (all genuine softwares, server connection etc). The company is using a contract IT company so connecting to the server and setting email is real issue with me as this IT people can't configure Mac. Last time it took them 1 week to set up everything for me ( me one the phone with them as they aren't coming to our office - they only use QuickViewer to get access to my laptop).
Now the company is buying me an iMac so that I can use the laptop at home. Can I use firewire to transfer everything to the new iMac so that I don't waste my time installing softwares & calling this IT people to set up my email and connection to the server again? If it works do I have to enter serial numbers in again for all the softwares or I have to buy new softwares (I know with Adobe CS - I can only install in one computer)?
Thanks in advance. If you want to use the adobe suite on the imac you will have to deactivate it on the MBP or it will show up as being used. That is if you can only install it on one computer. Some licenses you can install it on 2 computers but it has to say that on the cd key tag.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the contractors. It is not that hard to get stuff like that up and running on the mac. -

Problems with brand new HP 255 G3 Quad Core Laptop
Long story short, the main problem l have is "Windows 8.1", lve had this laptop since saturday and about the only thing lve really done on it is windows updates.. why? you may ask, well l waited three days to get nothing through windows update, l had to resort to using a program called autopatcher to get my system patched an up to date. now dont get me wrong l am happy with the hardware, my old laptop was pretty slow compared to this one.. and l am impressed with the start up speed but the software is a complete pile of manure!!! so essentially l want to know how l can eithier downgrade to Win7 or if the upgrade to 10 is much more stable to windows 8.. for that matter l want actual media (l dont like not having actual disks as l dont like upgrading an OS over a previous one if that makes sense).
Hi There,
Make sure that the charger connection is free of dust and debris which can cause the charger from connecting properly. I would also suggest doing an SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 Read through the instructions carefully before attempting the SMC reset.

2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 WILL IT WORK WITH FCP?
I am planning on purchasing the new IMAC 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen for work with FCP. The requirements to install FCP state in relevent part:
ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel Graphics processors not supported).
Does this mean that the 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen will NOT OPERATE FCP. I know that the Quad-Core Intel i7 is an upgrade for the system should I stay with the basic NVIDIA graphics processor?I understand there is a difference between the "graphics cards" and the Processor and Memory?
Graphics Cards:
27-inch model with dual-core processor, one of the following:
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
27-inch model with quad-core processor:
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
I am going to purchase the quad-core processor which will come with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
The Processor and memory according to Apple Specs are as follows:
27-inch models only, one of the following:
2.66GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.2GHz
2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.46GHz; Hyper-Threading for up to eight virtual cores
I would like to purchase the 2.8GHz quad-core Intel core i7 processor
This is where my concern is when FCP says (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)! -
Hi there,
I'm considering buying either a Mac Mini (2.7GHz Dual Core Intel Core i5) or an iMac (2.7GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5). I'm just wondering what the difference in speed is between the two different chips. If both had 4GB of memory would the iMac be a lot faster than the Mac Mini? I'm a graphic designer so I'd be mostly using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Many thanks,

The new 3.0 Ghz Phenom II X4 940 quad core processor and the K9a2 Platinum
Okay! So I have been looking at this processor for a bit, AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor HDZ940XCGIBOX - 3.00GHz, 6MB Cache, 1800MHz (3600 MT/s) FSB, Deneb, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket AM2+, Unlocked Multiplier, Processor with Fan Link=http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4330959
I have the K9A2 Platinum Motherboard. I have updated the Bios to version 1.6. Now I called MSI and Tiger direct and none of them know if this processor will work with my board. Now I did post a previous thread and every one said I should have come here sooner for answers and that is what I am doing. I looked at Cyberpower PC where they are building this spec with the 3.0 ghz Processor and the K9A2. Now I would like to assume that it will work but with the manufacturer and tiger direct not giving the most accurate information I am worried.
I think it will work just fine but I am double checking before I spend the money.
So guys and gals will my motherboard support this new chip? Does any one have the processor running on the MSI K9A2 Platinum? Bios version 1.6?
Current System Specs
Vista 64 Bit.
AMD Phenom 9600 2.3Ghz quad core. Liquid cooled
MSI K9A2 Platinum MB Bios Version 1.6

600 watt power supply
1x 150gb raptor drive 10,000rpm.
1x 300gb Raptor Drive 10,000 rpm. This might help you find the proper bios a bit easier. http://www.dvhardware.net/article31234.html

IS 2.3GHz i7 Quad Core MacBook Pro (Retina) able to run Civilization V?
Apple mentions that Civilization V has been updated for the Retina display. Civ 5 shows it needs at least a Core Duo 2.4 GHz processor. The Retina I have is 2.3 but quad core. Will this not work?
Those are 2 different CPU - the 2.4GHz being a Dual Core is slower than your 2.3GHz Quad Core.
So Civilization V will run much better in your Macbook Retina. -
Hello there. I've purcahsed the new i7 macbook pro quad core and the us-428 tascam is not recognised by logic.
I try to open audio/midi setup but it doesn't give me the option to choose the us-428 tascam. Does anybody know if there is a new driver for this i7 quadcore machines for the us-428 tascams? Please adviseThe hardware has been discontinued... the last driver is from 2007.
Go here.
http://tascam.com/product/us-428/downloads/
Get the 3.40 driver, unplug the 428 from the mac, reinstall the driver (over the top of the other one). Reboot the Mac, after it's settled give it a minute.... then plug the US-428 in.
I don't hold much hope of the driver being SL compatible but it's worth a shot.
Just be sure the unit is unplugged when you install the driver.

Dual core vs Quad Core for mild video and photo editing
I've owned PC's since ever and I'm now contemplating on coming over to the Mac world, my question is would a fully upgraded 13" MBPr Suffice for mild photo and video editing or should I try to shell out the extra cash for a lower end 15" with Quad-Core?
13" specs
2.8GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
2199$
15" specs
2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
2599$Sorry, yes it will suffice? if so how many years would I expect this computer to last me? (Sorry I'm really new to apple)

Mac mini (Late 2012): Dual- or Quad-Core?
I'm upgrading from a MacBook (2006) and - as a frequent iPad user - am thinking of just getting a Mac mini. I'm not sure though as wether to get the i5 dual-core or i7 quad-core version.
What I'll be using it for (none of these on a professional level, prosumer at most ;)):
Photo editing (iPhoto, thinking of switching to Aperture)
Web development (Coda, Espresso, local test server)
Designing (Sketch 2)
Full-HD video editing
Web, office, social media, ...
Can I expect a signifcant performance boost at these tasks from the quad-core model or will the differences be barely noticable (also considering most of these applications will be running simultaneously)?
I'll be maxing out RAM from a third party vendor in both cases, HDD capacity is not important and I'm not going to upgrade to SSD or Fusion Drive.
What do you think? Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks for your insights! My inital goal was being cost-efficient; Fusion Drive is only an option on the quad-core model thus making it 1080 Euros were I live. That's almost an entire new Mac mini which I could buy in 2-3 years. I don't mind CPU intensive tasks taking longer (e.g. rendering final movie) as long as the actual "creative process" runs smoothly (e.g. cutting the movie).
As you both said finding out how/if apps take advantage of multiple cores is not that easy. I guess I'll have a closer look at all the benchmark tests and reviews that will be showing up in the coming weeks.
I think Fusion Drive on a dual-core might boost performance more than just going quad-core, unfortunately this is not an option for the lower end model. Also I want to wait a little to see if Fusion Drive is proprietary Apple hardware or just implemented software-wise (which would mean I could fix a broken drive myself after warranty has expired).
By the way, any guesses on Black Friday sale options (as far as I could find out the Mac mini wasn't included last year)? -
Can i install quad core processor on Macbook Pro 13"
appreciate any feedback
Notebook CPUs are not user-upgradeable. They are soldered to the motherboard, not socketed. Furthermore, the firmware is not written to support a quad-core processor.
It would be less costly to sell your computer and buy a newer one with a quad-core processor. The new 15" Retina models both have quad-core processors.
